Lightbulb Worldwide Movies NOT to be Missed.

Apart from ruining a good movie by telling everything good about it, I've decided to put this category into the threads for people to share their memorable moments of World Cinema. I have not chosen to categorise any films from selection for a top list or the award based media attention they attract, but have carefully decided what films are worthy of mention as epic or revolutionary that makes them a remarkable achievement, without going into extremes on explaining why. One can do a web search and find out why through other tracts. The films listed obviously have been screened at some stage and are from different countries. I have done this specifically to indicate that there is no best category and one should view foreign films from their perspective and not from critical review. I'd hope that people posting on this thread respect the value of the world and foreign Content and refrain from saying what category is the best, because thats not what this thread is about.

    YEAR TITLE DIRECTOR COUNTRY

1948 Bicycle Thieves. De Sica, Vittorio. Italy
    1950 Rashomon. Kurosawa, Akira. Japan
1939 Rules of the Game. Renoir, Jean. France
1977 Star Wars. George Lucas. USA
1991 Raise the Red Lantern. Zhang, Yimou. China
1959 The World of Apu. Ray, Satyajit. India
    1966 Persona. Bergman, Ingmar. Sweden
    1931 M. Lang, Fritz. Germany
1964 Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors. Parajanov, Sergi. Soviet Union
1994 The Kingdom. Von Trier, Lars et. Denmark
1967 The Red and the White. Jancso, Miklos. Hungary
    1981 Pixote. Babenco, Robert. Brazil
1979 The Tin Drum. Schlondorff, Volker. West Germany / Yugoslavia
1962 Knife in the Water. Polanski, Roman. Poland
2000 Yi Yi. Lee, Ang. Taiwan / Japan
2003 Old Boy. Park, Chan-wook. South Korea
1968 2001: A Space Odessey. Kubrick, Stanley. UK
1993 The Piano. Campion, Jane. Australia
2001 Lord of The Rings - Fellowship Pt 1. Jackson, Peter. New Zealand
1989 My Left Foot. Sheridan, Jim. Ireland
2005 Tsotsi. Hood, Gavin. South Africa / UK
    1982 Fitzcarroldo. Herzog, Werner. Peru
1998 The Thin Red Line. Malick, Terrence. Canada
1973 The Spirit of the Beehive. Erice, Victor. Spain
    1961 Viridiana. Bunuel, Luis. Mexico

There are many more with exraordinary scenes and threads of creativity which I have seen and others through passing discusion am yet to discover their whereabouts. Sadly, much older celluloid films are becoming collector material that becomes more an icon of rememberance in a storage vault than viewable content. Some movies have become digitized so that their time capsule is given longevity and a new generation can appreciate the movies of yesterday. I hope this practice continues and that you get to see some of the above before your time is up. Please share your worldly movies with us here.
