Are there any side characters with "main character luck"?

Are there any side characters that encounter secret manuals in caves, fall off cliffs to serendipitously find a crazy old man to transfer them kungfu, or other lucky freak accidents that give them incredible abilities?

I think it'd be interesting to have a protagonist meet someone who has everything go right for them and have to a face off with luck working on the other person's side for once.

I guess examples of this would be someone like You Tanzhi, but he didn't play a central enough role and didn't really pose a threat or advance the plot too much.

It would be like reading SPW from Lin Pingzhi's perspective!
