Default Do you like New York City? / The "do you like {various cities}" thread

This is a place to chip in your opinion on various cities. The first one will be NYC.

I generally like big cities. I'm young and enjoy the big city feel: the vibrant night life, the skyline, the great food, and having more choices.

However, I don't like NYC, for these reasons:

    1. It's dirty. Very dirty.
    2. People are rude
    3. It's expensive
    4. People's English are hard to understand
    5. Weather is worse than many other big cities
    6. Doesn't feel safe
    7. The views aren't that spectacular (no match for Chicago or SF imo)
    8. Not much nature
    9. People's lives dominated by business (doesn't feel as fun)

What is your assessment of the world's largest city?

I've been to NYC 3 or 4 times but never for a lengthy stay. I'm not a terribly big fan of huge cities to be honest...but I don't care for the boonies either. The only thing that's appealing to me is the anonymity. A mid-sized city is probably more agreeable to my standards. The few times I've been there, my group paid for everything because I was poor but they wanted my company. hehe. I don't recall how I felt about safety. When I was there, I traveled in a large group. In addition, I grew up in a relatively shady neighborhood, so perhaps I don't actually ever feel TRULY safe anyway. I've got a bunch of friends up North [to me] and they love where they are. They're fun and trendy young people who enjoy socializing, so they love living in various parts of NYC.

I agree that NYC is quite dirty and noisy. There are rude people everywhere. I'm 5 mins from DC...yeah haha. When I went down south towards South Carolina though the people were really friendly. If someone paid me to live in NYC, yeah sure I would go. There are some places that I would not go, mind you. However, I would never choose to live there if I had to pay my own way. I like to eat out.
    I like me.
