Default Was it Fan Yao who injured SILVER LEAF Han Qianye?

    According to the novel: 是蒙古人手下一个西域哑巴头陀所为

....it was done by a mute Western monk working for the Mongolians.

Sounds like Fan Yao. Since he had the hots for Dai Yisi, I guess he couldn't take it that she married another man, so he tried to hurt the husband?

I think it's a reasonable little Easter egg.

When Jin Yong puts it in those terms, I would say it's highly probable...more probable than not.

It's also probable that Han and Dai may never have known that it was Fan Yao who injured Han. They might have thought it was a real monk.

After Han died, she went around looking for the culprit. That was when Wuji was 14. 10 years later when she reappeared, I don't remember she mentioning the culprit again, nor did she mention Fan Yao, which she would have if she knew. So most likely she was still in the dark.

Was this the injury that led to his death, or was it some other injury ?

If it was fatal, then I lose a lot of respect for Fan Yao. Being a jealous prick and killing a woman's husband, who never once had any relations with you, is pretty scummy.

I know he killed some Ming members to prove his loyalty, but that's a different case. The couple traveled in disguise and I can't think of a reason how harming him would gain him trust with the Mongols and can only conclude it was jealousy.

Han was poisoned. He continued to live for several years, but the poison eventually killed him.

All evidence points the finger at Fan Yao.

Also, remember his reaction when he first saw Xiao Zhao? That further points to his personal involvement in Han's death.

Quite a pity that this subplot wasn't resolved... and I read that JY took this subplot out of the new edition.

    Re-opening this thread:
    1. When, where and how JHPP and HQY poisoned?
    2. Why did JHPP recover and not HQY? Is it because medical doctor HQN refuse to treat him?

    From what I understand:

    1. Both suffered 'permanent injuries/organ damage' from their duel in freezing waters.
    2. Yes. HQN refuse to treat anyone not from Ming Sect.

I also agree everything points towards it being FY who injured Mr. silver leaf. There's a dark side to the character of both the left and right-hand counsellors of the Ming cult. FY is a pretty sinister character if one thinks about it - the novel kind of skims over his involvement with the Ruyang household but he probably undertook similar missions to eg. the Xuanming twosome, the three Ahs and so on...
