Default Miejue = Jiumozhi | Yideng?

Jiumozhi and Yideng are famous for their "gentle talking," but did you know that in HSDS, Miejue did something very similar?

    Translated by SmokeyTheBear:

Suddenly a crisp and clear female voice was heard, “Xiaofu, how can you be so useless? Go over if you want to!” Ji Xiaofu was shocked but happy, turned around and said, “Master!”, but there was no trace of anyone behind her. She looked carefully, only then did she see a grey-robed nun slowly walking over from a distance away, precisely the headmaster of Emei, her master Miejue Shitai*. Following behind her were two disciples, one was her elder martial-sister Ding Minjun, one was her younger martial-sister Bei Jinyi. The Golden Flower Granny saw that she was so far away that even her face could not be seen clearly, yet her voice was transmitted to everyone’s ears as though she was very close, which was sufficient proof of her profound internal energy.

Anyway, Miejue is one of those people who had some moments of glorious feats, but also some sucky underperformances. For example, the gentle talking above is a great moment, but just a minute later her sword got broken by Dai Yisi.

Guo Xiang was probably so impressed with what Yideng did, she created a martial art that could allow even a lower level of internal person than Yideng talk softly across vast distances.

JY does a pretty good job of making a lot of second tier characters look pretty powerful.

I wouldn't really be worried for the ROCH/LOCH greats if a team of second tier fighters ganged up on them, but I'd be pretty worried for Wuji if Ah San,Er,Da and the Xuan Ming elders had the jump on him.

The four Guardian Lords + Yang Xiao/Fan Yao would also be quite a handful.

This reminds me of the deterioration theory, which originally was used to say wulin as a whole declined, but it seems that wulin as a whole was at its strongest in the HSDS period outside of possibly DGSD. We can probably name 30-50+ fighters on the Yang Xiao (i.e. awesome but far from Greats) tier.

It works better if you treat the Condor trilogy as a whole, otherwise you'd have the wulin of SPW or OTG being overall better than LOCH.

They probably *are*. Some of that SPW stuff is outright scary, even by DGSD standards.

That's a good point. For Yang Xiao-level fighters, LOCH was the weakest, ROCH was a little better, and HSDS had the most.

For Great-level, ROCH was probably the strongest, then LOCH, while HSDS is dramatically worse.

By my estimations, the # of LOCH Great level fighters or higher:

    DGSD: 15+
    ROCH: 10+
    SPW: 6+
    LOCH: 6
    OTG: 3
    HSDS: 2+

And the # of YX level or higher:

    DGSD: 30+
    HSDS: 20+
    ROCH: 15+
    SPW: 10+
    LOCH: 7+
    OTG: 5+

And any novel after that would have 0 fighters in either category.

In HSDS the distribution of fighters seem to center around YX level, there aren't that many characters that are really weak. Whereas in DGSD and ROCH there are many fighters that exceed YX level, and LOCH just had really weak characters overall. SPW represents more of a normal curve and OTG has a negative-skew.

It just seems that the deterioration theory doesn't carry much water when LOCH/ROCH wulin (and pre-LOCH as theorized by PJ) was completely crap, and for those that think Dugu didn't have quality opponents either, it extends for another couple decades. That is over a century of low level wulin minus the outlier Greats. Remember, we discussed the theory for wulin as a whole, and wasn't intended for use for the uber-elites.
