I'm still more drawn to LYF's looks. TLY does look good in these photos, but there's something about her eyes that get to me - they're kinda droopy. LYF's eyes are the opposite - her eyes have a slight slant. Or it could be TLY's eyebrows? Not too sure.

The actress whose eyes I like best is still Yang Mi's - there's a spark and glint to her eyes which makes them very alive, and her eyes are straight. I also tend to prefer straight eyes or slightly slanted eyes, rather than droopy. Just me I guess.

I actually have stated a couple times before that I always think TLY gives off a rather melancholy/sad look and I agree, it is mostly due to her eye shape. However, I don't think it detracts from her beauty (although it can make her look a bit tired sometimes without the proper makeup), it just gives her a "tragic beauty" type of look. Personally I agree that LYF is more beautiful overall--however, my point in LYF's thread was that plenty of people find TLY more beautiful since it's all in the eye of the beholder. (In particular, TLY has a perfect "gua zi" facial shape which some people highly value, whereas LYF's facial shape is still lovely but more roundish.) Also, TLY has a more mature, seductive beauty while LYF's is the more innocent type, so you can't directly compare them since different people like different things.

Basically in LYF's thread I wasn't saying TLY is prettier than her, but that both of them probably have similar "levels" of beauty yet their career paths have been drastically different.

But I definitely agree that YM's eyes are still my favourite. ^_^ As you said, it's not just the lovely shape or how big they are, but mostly because they're always so expressive and alive; whether it's sadness, mischievousness, or happiness, she conveys all the feelings perfectly through one look. (In Chinese people often say she has 一双会说话的眼睛, i.e. "a pair of eyes that can talk".) One of the main reasons why she is on my list of prettiest actresses despite a lot of people having problems with her facial shape (chin/forehead etc, which, objectively speaking, are flawed).

Ooh, she definitely looks better in Mu Yi Tian Xia. But I still think she looks a bit fish-like.

I think Zhou Xun and Fan Bing Bing have really nice eyes, even though FBB's eyes look a bit assymetrical sometimes.

I don't mind because she's expanding her resume by doing other genres than historical/ancient ones. I like that, even though, she's pretty, she doesn't rely on her looks. I do hope she ventures into other genres now that she's doing 2 horror movies already. Challenging characters that she can do to expand her acting skills could be a mute/deaf character. Characters with disabilities are always challenging. She could also play the role of a serial killer; the type that is a little psychotic and overly freaky. Last but not least, I'd like to see her portray a tomboy or lesbian. Most of her roles have been very feminine and gentle and graceful. As long as she's not a vase and isn't only in the movie to serve as the love interest, I'm cool. I see potential in her to be a great actress.

Just watched the ending scene of the movie. Her emotional breakdown was impeccable and well done. Using her beauty, I can also see her as an evil seductress. For example: White Vengeance is a high profile movie, but very male dominated. LYF's role is probably just a beauty vase and only serves as a love interest. All the spotlight from the trailer was all on the men.

This really highlights how tragic most of the styling/makeup in Gong was... >_< I don't understand how they made 2 such gorgeous girls like Tong Liya and Yang Mi (who are both on the top of my list of prettiest Asian actresses) look so...average. Ok well, they're both still pretty but it just doesn't do them justice! And Yu Zheng, despite all his faults, is usually actually really good at the costuming part of series (along with the music and sets).

Except for TLY's styling at the end (when she was a concubine) and the one scene of YM in the purple costume/headwear--those did look pretty nice. TLY's weird pale pink/purple lipstick was especially bizarre. Oh well, it still made both of them gain a lot of popularity so I will stop my ranting about that...
