I am reading a book on careers. Sorry I can't remember the authors. It is quite interesting because the authors argue that careers, being work experience, happened since humans exist. In those days, your career centre on finding food for himself/family.

Interesting. I knew about the more well known Bronte sisters, Charlotte and Emily, but never knew they had a younger sister Anne or that they had other siblings who were authors too. I saw the last name and had to google it to see if she's related to the other Bronte sisters. I read Anne died of pulmonary tuberculosis at a very young age like my current age and the novel you're reading is her last novel.

I am reading Life of Pi after watching the movie. I wished I read the novel first now because I already know the ending and already have the movie's imagery in my mind. Do you guys usually prefer to read the novel first or watch the movie adaptation first? I think I tend to prefer the former so that my own imagination is not tainted by what someone else's interpretation is.

且试天下 starts off well, but the latter half lost focus. I think it had a lot more potential than what it develops into.
Same. It's particularly difficult for me to visualize the characters as the author intended rather than a particular director/actor's interpretation after watching the movie first. I'd prefer my first impression to be based upon the text alone.

That's a shame! Luckily, I managed to read the novel prior to the movie. I agree that it's always better to have my own vision about something prior to going into the cinema. If I read a novel after seeing the movie, it'll be forever tainted with the director's vision and the actors' faces.
It's also about trying to find the time to read a hefty book though - a movie may serve as a nice introduction to expanding your reading list. I watched the Swedish version of Girl With Dragon Tattoo and enjoyed it, but felt a movie couldn't do justice to such complex characters so I had to check out the books.

Sorry I took so long to reply. Hasn't visited this thread for a long time.
I'm surprised that you didn't know Anne Bronte. Every time I read about the Bronte sisters, it's always the 3 sisters together. Actually, all 4 siblings were very talented writers and artists, including the brother Branwell. They live a very secluded lives in the moor. So, the siblings wrote stories for entertainment. They jointly wrote an epic story (which title I forgot) when they were kids. It's sad that Branwell succumb to alcohol.
Anne Bronte's style is very different from her sisters. I feel that her style is more like Jane Austen, where everything is tame and proper. Tenant of Wildfell Hall won't ignite great passions like Wuthering Heights, but, it's a very forward novel. It's also a cautionary tale for girls who thought they can change a bad boy.

Words of Radiance... absolutely fantastic.
I don't know how Brandon Sanderson does it. He's written so much in the last couple of years, and it just seems to get better and better. I started reading his works when he took over for Robert Jordan, and I actually found his WoT books to be much more pleasant reading than Jordan's. Next I moved on to Alloy of Law, Mistborn Trilogy, Stormlight Archive and Steelheart.
I've cut down my reading time significantly now that I'm taking a class after work (spending 15-20hrs per week between class and assignments) but Words of Radiance is difficult to put down. I just finished part 2 out of presumably a 3 part book of ~1000 pages, and I already feel sad that I'm more than half way through it. It does the perspective switching thing you see in many modern epics but most of the characters are actually interesting and engaging. I suffer heavily from main character bias so it's usually all about Luke Skywalker/Richard Rahl/Rand Al Thor/John Snow etc. and tend to view additional characters as distractions, Here I'm actually enjoying the parts with the "support" characters like Shallan, Dalinar and Adolin... although Kaladin still remains the main focus for me.
