Feng Shao with Yang Mi
Found this article comparing his popular couplings: http://gb.cri.cn/27564/2011/02/17/1326s3154775_4.htm
Of course FengMi is top of the tops for all onscreen couples. But other than Yang Mi, I definitely prefer his pairing with Ady over Myolie. I don't understand why FSF-Myolie even had a couple term - Fenolie. Maybe bcos Drive of Life was more popular than Four Women Conflict? Actually, Four Women Conflict was the first series I watched with FSF as the lead, hence it's the reason why I always picture him as "rich man's son" with his fair skin - the type who inherits a rich business and trust fund. So I still can't accept him being any Yang brother in the upcoming Yang Warrior movie with Raymond Lam.
Gawd! I can't believe I'm posting so many comments in this thread! FengMi has made me a FSF fan? Argh!

You don't have to be a fan to post in here. You can just be a curious bystander who wants to join in on the heated discussion about the best onscreen couple. HAHAHA..I, myself, can't say I'm 100% a FSF fan. I don't mind watching some of his dramas but would not purposely go out of my way to watch a drama just for him. I think I'm more attracted to his real life personality and his chemistry with YM.
P.S. I think I'm really enjoying 4 Women Conflict. I love the score. I'm a sucker for melodramatic music. One thing that YZ does right is the score for most of his dramas.

I'm not a fan of any Asian actors or actresses but if I see a particular character I like, I try to see if the actor acted as good in other series. Since I liked FSF's Yinsi, I was curious to see how his acting was in his other series. For Scheme of a Beauty, I couldn't get pass the first twenty or so chapters and even then I FF some of the scenes. The series was so boring that the only saving grace for me was Fenolie. I actually thought their story was cute and their chemistry was good. Not as fire hot as Fengmi but nonetheless, I feel they had chemistry.
Now allow me to rant some more about Yun Niang. I know, I know it's old news but still......
What I hated most about Yun Niang is not just the weak and pathetic character of FSF but also Asian dramas characterization of mother in laws. Not that they are wrong, as having a personal encounter myself, I do think Asian mothers-in-laws are some of the worst out there, but too many times, Asian dramas made the mother in law the evil and the father in law as benevolent. The cliche gets old after a while.
However, in the same breath, I liked how it portrayed how tough women have it back then, especially as daughters in law. Perhaps the reason why Asians mothers in law are some of the worst may be related to how they were treated as daughters in law and as wives back in the old days.
I am only half way done with Four Women of Conflict, so I will not comment too much on it until I am done with the series. BUT, and it is a big BUT I am also tire of seeing FSF as a rich boy, FSF needs to really break out of that mold and get some new exciting characters. Perhaps as an assassin or a warrior (not inherited or a rich one) would be nice. I don't know but after watching three or four of his series where he played someone rich and privileged I'm getting a bit bored.
I do say that FSF have some the best crying face especially in Gong. Many actors can't do crying scene, I'd say FSF pulled it off nicely.
He does play an illiterate assassin in his first movie/ series with yangmi. The movies was shot 7 years ago and never released, but it seems like it may be release this year. But don't keep your hopes or expectations too high as it was a low budget production.

From experience, sometimes its better to have a low budget production but quality script and plot than high budget production with ridiculous plot and storyline. I do hope the series will get released I loved to see how young them two were.

The director released many stills which have been posted in ym's thread. Fsf looks unrecognizable at first because he was actually tanned and scruffy looking. I thougt he looked like an assassin and quite manly too. I'm also hoping for a good script. The cinematography looks amazing based on the released pix.

I think FSF once said he was sooo sick of playing rich, privileged boys in period dramas like Yun Niang and Four Women Conflict that he wanted to puke. Poor guy was typecast and casting directors always gave him similar roles. I heard he once auditioned for a beggar role or something in college, but the director said "i'll contact u again when I have rich boy character for you."
christiantran, did you say you're watching Four Women Conflict without english subs? I actually found a website that has english subs.

Fortunately he seems to be having luck this year! After Gong I don't think he's played another "rich boy" character. Plus he will be playing a "warrior-type" (Xiang Yu) in Hong Men Yan. So I'm sure he's having a lot more fun now.
I agree! In Gong, and also in the screencaps at the top of this page, wow. I think YM has also mentioned being impressed by this before--that out of the actors she's worked with FSF has one of the best crying abilities.
Same here...I've come to really like FSF now but I still don't feel like going back to watch any of his old series. I will definitely be catching his upcoming projects though. (Well, actually Hou Gong doesn't really seem that appealing either--another typical "women scheming in the palace" series, and FSF himself said his character was pretty boring, so I'll probably give that one a skip.)
FSF actually looks pretty rugged in that never-released-before movie with Yang Mi. It's too bad his most famous role (before Gong) was his rich boy character in Yun Niang, and hence got him typecasted.
I can pretty much see FSF as a devil-may-care rugged assassin in this movie. How ironic that this never-released-before movie is the earliest FengMi collaboration (she was just 17 right? And he was 25) and probably one of FSF's earliest lead roles where he's this rebel on the edge of society (definitely NOT a rich boy).

OMG, I can't believe it! Thanks so much. I'm at work right now so I can't stream it until I get home but thanks so much. Most of the time I have to guess what they are saying but there are some words that are similar to cantonese so I understand some of it. Once again, thanks so much!
