Being from Australia I can see the situation from a certain point of view. I'm just wondering how most other people see it.

Would consider it ignorant, a stab at the Dalai Lama and Buddism, disrespectful?
Or would you consider the joke a lighthearted laugh?

Personally I thought it was funny, not the joke itself, but the situation. Telling the Dalai Lama a joke about the Dalai Lama and it backfiring and having a laugh at yourself.
