Wow, I heard of this on Tang Yan's thread but I didn't realize it was a remake of sorts of Gone With the Wind!!! O_o (Even though I should have guessed--now that you mention it I make the connection that the title is the Chinese translation of GWTW.) I do love that story so I can't wait to see the Asian remake! Especially the costumes, it looks SO promising. (That poster for one is gorgeous.)

I wonder how much of it they're going to change though? Sammul/Tang Yan both don't exactly give me any Rhett/Scarlett vibes...but perhaps they will be changing up the characters/story a bit? Or maybe they will surprise me and pull off the characters!

Oh, I'm confident Tang Yan can pull off a Chinese Scarlett character!

I'm just a bit apprehensive about Sammul - I'm not sure he can exude the level of charm and charisma that Rhett should have. TBH, I wasn't charmed by him in MRXJ.

sammul may surprise us. too bad hxm doesn't seem to be doing series anymore. he would have made a good rhett. and tang yan can definitely pull off the role. scarlett is a flirty and conniving spoiled brat who ultimately learns what true love is and loses it all. i can definitely see ty do well with this role.

the guy in the third picture in post number 2 looks like he may be able to pull off the role based on his looks. who is he?

Yeah, I know. HXM is the very actor I can see as a Chinese Rhett equivalent. The guy in third pic you're referring to is 谭凯 (Tan Kai), who acted as the good-hearted Shanghainese gangster chief Luo Zhi Xiang in Feng Chuan Mu Dan. I totally shipped him with Li Xiao Ran's character rather than the bland Hawrick Lau (who was the male lead).

Tan Kai was also in The Myth and Bitter Coffee with Hu Ge and Too Late To Say I Love You with Wallace Chung & Li Xiao Ran.

Just noticed a thread has been created for "Gone with the Wind". This role seems quite different from the roles that Tang Yan played lately. Honestly I don't really like her playing some innocent little girls with exaggerated gestures. I hope her acting career will be sparkled after this drama.

I think she has made the right choice. This series seems tailor-made for her. Generally a drama will draw broader audiences than a movie.

oh my god, yes! HXM would've been perfect but i also agree that TY could definitely pull off the role. i think she has the beauty and acting chops - looking forward to it!

When you put it that way I agree, TY can probably pull it off! I guess I just have a hard time "converting" the feel and mental image I have of the old-style Hollywood stars to modern-day Asian actors/actresses...but out of the younger actresses TY is probably one of the best choices to do a feisty/bratty yet mature character.

I agree with xiaolong about Sammul though, only saw him in MRXJ but he didn't impress me. Can't quite see him pulling off Rhett...man HXM really would have been an awesome choice...I mean HXM/TY? I'd be all over that! XD

I agree that Tang Yan is very good-looking and great at acting, but actually I'm not sure Scarlett is a role she can pull off. I'm sceptical, but I won't judge until I see it. I've never seen Sammul Chan act, though.

Erm, is this actually "Gone with the Wind"? I know the chinese name is the translation they use for "Gone with the Wind" movie, but the setting here reminds me more of TVB's "War and Destiny", which shares the same Chinese name .

The literal translation of the chinese name of the series is something more like, "Beauty of the Troubled Times."

The synposis according to baidu (I don't know how accurate it is):

Breif translation: "With 1930's Shanghai as the background, this film portrays how the main character, Lian Xin, breaks through the chains of destiny. In the mist of war, she becomes a "beauty of the troubled times" and fights against the Japanese together for the greater love and creates a legendary story. Lian Xin is born as a lowly maid. In order to pursue her own freedom and love, she becomes a chess piece in Zhang Wenjin's plan to overthrow his father. Along with Chong Yang, she is framed to be the murderer. After experiencing the life and death events together, Chong Yang and Lian Xin become lovers. Together, they fight against the powers of Zhang Wenjin and the Japanese. In face of war, Lian Xin slowly grow to be mature and strong willed. In order to save Chong Yang, Lian Xin rejects He Tian, who loves her deeply, and marries the Shanghai Bund's most powerful tycoon, Ma Kun. However, she discovers that Ma Kun is actually the hero who is secretly funding the resistence movements against the Japanese. In the event of the Japanese attacks, Lian Xin and Chong Yang choose to give up their romance and fight against the Japanese. They use their lives to exchange for freedom and justice.

    Tang Yan--Lian Xin
    Samuel Chan--He Tian
    Luo Jin--Chong Yang
    Tan Kai--Ma Kun
