Default Does The Deer and the Cauldron travell well in the West?

    Hi, everyone.
It has been several years since the publishment of the English version of The Deer and the Cauldron, and I'm wondering whether it has been received in the West. And could anyone tell me who the main readers of this translation are? The Chinese people? The general public in English-speaking countries? Or those Western sinologists?

I think Book One had pretty great reviews on Amazon. Book II and III were much too abridged so I did not like them at all. Foxs translation here is much superior to the Minford edition.

It hasn't had much reception at all because each edition is too expensive (and now out-of-print, I believe) for anyone besides university libraries to buy.

Quite, $30+ per book isn't all that cheap, especially when there's three books.

I think though that the bigger issue is that there's no real market for Chinese literature translated into English . . . not even for the classics (unless it's for a class or purchased by someone familiar with Chinese literature).
