I like the cartoon version, heheh! I always thought those Monkey King antics and mischief works best in cartoon form.

The 1965 cartoon film 'Havoc in Heaven' is the best!

Every other version from the past is laughable, empty, meaningless piss compared to the recent adaptations. Give me a f***** break. That crap was produced and directed by idiots who had no respect for the genre and pretty much considered Chinese mythology to be made for children. It makes me want to THROW UP. Ancestors have been rolling in their damn graves, but thank God for filmmakers like Zhang Ji Zhong.

EVERYTHING that is wrong with the socialist modern Chinese era (but I'm not trying to get political here).

    ---------------------------

Only the two most recent adaptations of the novel have gotten it right. These guys actually understand what Chinese mythology is SUPPOSED to be about.

The ONLY problem with the Zhejiang version is that it's incomplete ... it left too many storylines out.

The Zhang Ji Zhong adaptation has proven to have all of the drama, emotion, philosophy, and Taoist/Buddhist teachings and wisdom that the Zhejiang adaptation has ... while being a COMPLETE translation of the novel to television.

Not talking about the philosophy and looking solely at the emotion and the drama for a second ... just a look at Ady An's performance in Episode 17 confirms this. She is INCREDIBLY emo in the series. Her performance completely stems from her character's super-emotional instabilities. (and no, it did NOT detract from the novel at all, it ENHANCED it) And for that same reason that others might hate it, I f***** LOVE it. THAT'S what a drama is.

F the haters. Seriously. Really hoping these super emotional, super philosophical, epic myth series like ZJZ's JTTW and the Bao Lian Deng Trilogy (from Jiu Nian, another genius who understand how to produce great Chinese myth) start a revolution for the genre that it has SORELY needed.

REAL Chinese myth like the aforementioned dive DEEP into both practical, relatable, human philosophy (exploring issues ranging from human affection to social politics) as well as deeper, universal Taoist concepts of yin yang, Five Elements, Eight Diagrams, and much more.

Now THIS I can respect. And praise to no end.

the magic does not stop there for journey to the west zhang jizhong version. because now he's in the process of making the 3 movies trilogy for journey to the west and we will see how that goes. and even after that....there will be another big surprise...maybe...

I wonder what will happen to journey to the west 25 years after zhang jzhong version.

Journey to the West 1986 version is the LEGEND, the BEST! This classic version no one can beat it. The main actor who act monkey role is awesome. No once can beat his role.
