Actually Ang Lee's English-speaking movies about Chinese culture are good as well.

Tokyo! is a great Japanese film. It's a triptych, composed of three short films that are directed by three foreign directors (two French, one Korean). For me it was the surrealistic visuals and colorful characters that won me over, though the creators didn’t leave the storylines by the wayside. Film lovers out there might recognize directors Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Leos Carax (Pola X) and Bong Joon Ho (The Host). Each one brings a their own storytelling sensibilities, whether it's Bong's skillful tension building in "Shaking Tokyo" or Gondry's deceptively simple introduction of a crucial plot twist in "Interior Design." It just got released on DVD today after a limited theatrical run.

I just watch 'The Bandage Club' last month. Other than 1 part that I feel I a bit exagerating, the movie is overall very good and touching.

Didn't see this one recommended previously and I just watched it last night:
K-20: Legend of the Mask. It's Japanese, starring Takeshi Kaneshiro. Great caper movie/mystery/superhero origin story, with a cool retro alternate-history setting.
