    Default Exposing Lovable Unique Voices

Which singers have unique voices? Or more broadly: which artists deliver unique sounds or styles such that their songs are unmistakably theirs.

Can be Chinese or English or any language

Here are a few artists that I can recognize instantly and unmistakably. At least, I've not heard anyone else who sound very similar to them, but if you know of someone who resembles their sound, let me know:

    -Dave Matthews
    -Jewel
    -Mariah Carey
    -Lenny Kravitz
    -Michael Jackson
    -Eminem
    -Gwen Stefani/No Doubt
    -Bono/U2
    -Anthony Kiedis/Red Hot Chili Peppers
    -Natasha Bedingfield
    -Macy Gray
    -Billy Corgan/Smashing Pumpkins
    -Ed Kowalczyk/Live
    -Cake
    -Sarah McLachlan
    -Gavin Rossdale/Bush

    -Emil Chow
    -Richie Ren
    -Andy Lau
-Dave Wong Kit (unfortunately, ALL of his songs sound the same)

    Others you can think of?

Ah, I thought of one more unique sound: The Cranberries. Always reliable...

Jacky Cheung. See how easily he adapted his own mistakeably unique style into Eason's song: Try listening to this

I wouldn't say I like this version WAY better than eason's, but it sure left a stronger impression in my mind.

this list could go on forever if we sat down and thought about it.

first things that come to mind (that haven't been said already)
jay chou, candy lo, tom jones, elvis, evanescence, linkin park, katy steele/little birdy and I always thought jack black had a unique style/voice at least in lyrical content anyway.

yeah I do realise not all of them are lovable but unique nontheless.

and the singer from Creed. until everyone started singing that way, nickelback, hinder, daughtry or whatever they're called and a few others(?)

to me, the guy from creed always sounded like he was doing a bad eddie vedder impersonation.

Dunno about Elvis, pretty sure I've heard other rock-and-rollers from that era that sound similar.
and Creed? No way. They sound almost identical to Days of the New and Pearl Jam.

Jay Chou didn't have a unique voice. He simply has a unique way of singing which is in fact, mumbling, that's all.

Yeah I know but I thought the topic is about unique sounds and styles and you know it's him singing as soon as you hear it. Linkin Park don't sing with unique voices (basically throat singing and that's nothing new), but they do have a unique sound and style in their songs.

I once thought that LeAnn Rimes -- "I Need You" was by Christina. They both have strong voices.

Most western musicians have their own voice & sound. I like the following artists:

Bob Marley and Joss Stone, a white girl who can sing soul.

The most unique is non other than Prince. The man is a natural-born musician/performer who can do it all.

    ---------Chinese
    I like 蕭敬騰 (Jam Hsiao).

He will release his debut album next month. Below are some clips of him.

    - 夢一場 (original singer 那英)

    - 背叛 (original singer 曹格)
performed at Taiwanese idol show called 超級星光大道.

    - 霍元甲 (original singer jay chou)
He puts jay chou to shame. he sings this song so much better than jay that jay should stop singing this song. here's jay's version

    - One Night in Beijing or 北京一夜

    一眼瞬間(duet with A-mei)

How about Enya? Her voice is ethereal.

Sarah McLachlan sounds a bit like Dido.

I agree on Jay Chou. He may not have a unique voice, but he has a distinctive enunciation. That's like the case with Sean Paul and his accent.

If you listen to "I Need You" right after "I Turn To You", you *might* notice some similarities.
