The show ended at 90 episodes on china website (membership early preview) 3 days ago.

I've not spoiled myself yet (25 more episodes to go) , but there are much criticism for the scriptwriter.

There are claims that 100 minutes of footage was cut away from the ending due to the strict limit to keep within 90 episode limit by contract with TV stations.
In the trailer we saw the scene of Qing armored troops entering the MingZhu base for total wipeout and recover Li-Yi-Huan's bloodstained vest for KangXi Emperor. Those are the missing scenes.

Final episode ... I rate it 1/10 ... abrupt
Overall 6/10

Oh well .... need to wait 7 more weeks for the TV broadcast to finish before they release uncut ending 100minutes.

I watched this because of the four leads, whom I all like.

This was almost a rehash of Princess Huai....something from the 90s.

90 episodes amd they still haven't slept togetjer annoyed me sooo much.

Not seeing the good bits where the Ming side was wiped out made me hate myself for watching this. In fast motion.

Main girl was the type I disliked. Has rock for brains and an over inflated ego. Ergo...trouble on legs. If the actress wasn't so cute and I didn't have residue good will for her from Legend of Chusen I would have fast forward this. Not even my love of Shu Chang can hold me.

The writting is pretty one dimensional, there is an obvious lack of character growth in almost everyone and the acting was sub par at some points.

Mao...something something and Shu Chang were very good in their roles. Yang Zi was a rehash of her Ode to Joy character only less crazy. Main guy though, he lacked the bearings of a king and seemed to have only one way to show his regalness, looking pissed off and puffing out his chest. I was expecting a lot more from him.

I doubt they will make a season 2 considering the tv ratings were very low.

I might sound like I hated this drama but I really didn't, I just didn't enjoy it too much.

I think it's the director and editors fault , if they had to preserve the final 100 minutes they could have shortened the earlier draggy plot about masked-love and the obese governor.

That could have a proper ending with the viewers wanting an extension of the story ...
the way it is presented now sinks their own popularity...

I clicked "play" on the YouTube link upthread (thanks) to see what the show was about and ended up watching all of it. All 90 episodes of it.

For me, the show delivered. Good-looking people, nice costumes and sets, rousing music, good performances (the actor in the role of Kangxi seemed to have improved a bit from when I last saw him, in the Legend of Chusen), relatively reasonable or relatable behaviours, etc.

While the plot didn't exactly have me riveted, it was rather entertaining and kept me wanting more at the end of every episode. But then, most of the time, it felt as though nothing substantial was happening. I found myself thinking, at about episode 60++, that not much progress had been made as far as the primary storyline was concerned, merely a whole lot of lighthearted fun.

The middle part - the part with the roly-poly guy - felt quite tedious. Plus I could not take him or his brother-in-law seriously as villains that could pose any threat whatsoever to the leading characters.

I would say it was, generally, a lighthearted show. Rather amusing at times. Only the concluding episodes were meant to tug at our heartstrings.

Yang Zi is very cute, but her character is not realistic, imagine seeing a person acting (moving and shaking/waving body & arms every second) like her in front of you I don't know who would be able to stand it lol, and she slapped the king just like that in front of everyone, she's just too overly unrealistic. She is not hatable though, she's still cute and like-able overall but just not amazing.

Dang, I didn't even know Yang Zi's brother and the king are sooo identical, by 90% identical. While I knew Yang Zi and Shu Chang are already too identical from the posters, I did not see realize the brother was not the king until he showed up.

The director and editor are totally at fault, I whimzed through 20 episodes in one day because only if you are a very super duper extreme Yang Zi fan will you be able to sit through this, this is plotless, nothing but Yang Zi running around having fun everywhere. Good thing that Yang Zi is pretty enough to cheat through this. Another thing I dislike was the overly 100Xs uses of fast zooming camera scenes that was unncessary. But I give pluses to the cute scenes between the king and Yang Zi, at least they were kind of worth watching through, I sat through most of Princess Agents and there wasn't any scene (fighting or romantic) that was really worth the time.

It did feel plotless at times indeed.

Or perhaps they tried too hard to cater to the multiple varied plot lines that it ended up feeling somewhat pointless and plotless at times.

Yet for all that, I don't regret having spent the time watching the show. I enjoyed it, quite a fair bit.

Back then I calculated that the TV airing would end around this week , the scriptwriter promised to release the 100minute cut footage.

Previously she claimed that the web broadcast websites could buy the extra 2 episodes outside of the 90 episode contract.
Well ... there seem to be no takers .... now she set a requirement of 6.8 billion viewcount , 3000 hashtag mention for season2 , XXXXX number of subscribe , I can't be bothered to verify how distant the target is set.

She describe the scenes in text , I summarized and translated it

1) Zhu gege and Snow ride 2 horses into beijing city gate

2) Zhu gege and Snow are led into a house backyard , WuSangGui lent the location to ZhuMing Alliance as their old safehouse was wiped out 4 years ago. The attendant said they would raise suspicion walking around the capital as unmarried man and woman , suggest they address each other as husband-wife.

3) WuYingQi is tie and hung on a tree. Zhu Gege and YiHuan observe him behind a big treetrunk. Zhugege says WYQ is very tolerant of torture to not expose that he is kungfu trained. Yihuan uses powder to attract bees onto him , WuQianYing jumps out of nowhere to rescue him. WuYingQi address YiHuan as taizifei (zhu gege's wife).

4) Yihuan baths in a fragrant water pool facility in the palace. Kangxi walks in to unlock her. Apparently she is chained and have to eat kungfu neutralizing pill when unchained to prevent her escape. Palace maids around her are kungfu experts to guard her.

5) Kangxi selects a hairpin from jewellery box with yihuan in mind.

6) Kangxi and Yihuan strolls in the palace garden , the chains on her feel makes noise. He feels guilty and holds her hand but rejected by her. Li eunuch shows sadness and disappointment.

7) They reach YongLeZhai and she reject hosting him for tea. Kangxi whisper to her that his heart is locked by her just like her physical person is locked by him. Yihuan shows mixed expression. Li eunuch shows disappointment.
