Chapter 8: Hero Saves Beautiful Maiden

Meanwhile, the three angry men were still shouting curses and pounding at the front doors of Miao manor. Miao Ting Feng had just promised to do one favor for Lin Hong Ye on the condition that she comes out with him to confront her pursuers.

“Lao Da, we’ve been pounding at the door for so long, but that stinky little wench still hasn’t come out. I say we break into the mansion and show them the fierce authority and power of the Three Old Tigers,” said the youngest of the three men.

“Lao San is right. Instead of wasting our energy here, we should climb the walls drag her out ourselves” Lao Er said in agreement.

The leader of the three gave it some thought as he switched his large saber from one hand to the other. However, before he made a decision, he saw from the corner of his eyes, two people were on the roof, but before any of them can react, Miao Ting Feng and Lin Hong Ye had jumped and flipped twice before they both landed nimbly on the front yard of the manor. As Miao Ting Feng expected, the three middle age men were surprised to see them exiting from the roof instead of the front doors.

“Hey! There’s that little wench,” exclaimed Lao San.

The three men ran down the steps to meet them squarely on equal ground. The men noticed the dark and fierce aura that seems to emanate from Miao Ting Feng, though he just stood there silently with his arms folded in front of his chest.

“I am the owner of this mansion. What reasons have brought you here to disrupt its peace?” Miao Ting Feng asked with a cold voice full of disdain for the unwelcome guests.

The trio pretended to be respectful and cupped their hands to greet him and the leader of the group spoke. “Mister, we have unfinished business with the young lady beside you. If you could just hand her over, we will be on our way.”

Upon facing the three men, Miao Ting Feng noticed they each had a missing eyebrow, which was recently shavened off. He glanced sideways at Lin Hong Ye as if he knew without asking that it was her work. “What if I don’t?” He asked.

“If you don’t, we will just have to take her by force,” answered Lao Da.

“That’s too bad. I have no intention of letting her be taken away ,” Miao Ting Feng replied nonchalantly.

“You…Stinky Youth! The Three Old Tigers with our mighty sabers will tear you both shreds!” Lao Er announced. The three men prepared to start a fight with him, but he was not in the least scared for his life.

“It’s best you three don’t waste my time, attack all at once,” Miao Ting Feng replied as he held up his sword still covered by its scabbard.

The Three Old Tigers ran forth attacking Miao Ting Feng and he met their attacks confidently. He swung his sword left and hit Lao Er in the chest and swung to the right hitting Lao San in the stomach. Both Lao Er and Lao San fell onto the ground injured and stayed there. He swerved his muscular body to the side and blocked Lao Da’s high saber attack from below while using his inner powers to push Lao Da back a few feet. Lao Da’s saber and Miao Ting Feng’s weapon stayed connected as both men fought on testing each other with their inner powers (nei gong).

Lao Da thought the young man had extraordinary strength and inner powers, not once had he unleashed his sword from its scabbard. He looked at the young man in the eyes and Miao Ting Feng met the men’s stare. “Arrogant young man, do you think I’m an unworthy opponent? Is that why you refused to take your sword out of its cover?”

“My sword does not leave the scabbard, unless my intention is to kill my opponent,” Miao Ting Feng replied curtly.

“You are an arrogant fool,” said Lao Da as pulled his saber back and met Miao Ting Feng’s palm with his with a smack. The fight continued on for a while with each kick and saber attack matched equally just as quickly as it was executed. He has quick reflexes, thought Lao Da. He became more and more impressed with the youth’s swordsmanship and courage. Lao Da lunged forth and swung his saber swiftly to the left and right, but every time Miao Ting Feng blocked his attacks.

The fight would have gone on longer, if Lao Da had not retreated and raised his hand to signal to stop the fight. Lao Da let out a laugh at meeting such a suitable opponent and smiled at Miao Ting Feng. “I will agree to let this girl go, if you compensate for the new girls she let escaped from the brothel and the embarrassment facing these shaved eyebrows.”

Miao Ting Feng straightened his posture from a crouch and relaxed the hand holding the sword. He smiled a devilish smile as everything happened accordingly to his plans.

“Very well, I have here three pouches of gold and silver. If you accept this exchange, you must promise never bother this young lady again,” Miao Ting Feng replied calmly as he pulled out three money pouches from inside his robe and sleeve.

The three men eyed the small bags of money as Miao Ting Feng he held it out. “Okay. We accept. I promise my men and I will never chase or bother the girl again.”
With the leader of the Three Old Tigers’ promise, Miao Ting Feng quickly threw the pouches and Zhang Da Hu caught them.

“Lao Da, are we really going to let this little wench and that stinky young boy go?” The other two men asked still holding onto their injuries.

Zhang Da Hu gave each of his brothers a pouch and they felt the weight of each pouch and grinned with greed. He cupped his hand and said his farewells with Miao Ting Feng. The other two men followed dumbly behind, but sneered at Lin Hong Ye as they passed. Once the three were gone, Miao Ting Feng walked back to the front doors of Miao manor with Lin Hong Ye right behind him. The housekeeper, Old Li came to open the doors and closed it after they both had reentered the mansion.

The snowing had ceased falling, but it was getting late in the night. Miao Ting Feng decided to rest in his old home for one night and continue his travels the next day. Miao Ting Feng walked down several hallways and turned to find his old bedroom just as he left it many years ago. The darkness of the room soon disappeared with each candle he lighted. Lin Hong Ye followed him impatiently, until he stood by the bed and admired the well-lit room.

"Miss Lin, how long do you wish to continue following me tonight? He asked as he removed his fur-lined cloak and after dusting of the snow, he hung the cloak up beside the bed.

It was clear to Lin Hong Ye that she had foolishly followed him into the bedroom, but her curiosity had to be appeased. "I just want you to answer some of my questions." She asked standing by the table with the well-lit candle, making sure there was a good distance from him.

"If it pleases you, ask away." He said casually sitting down on the bed.

“You had the upper hand, why did you agree to give them your money? Are you rich?” Lin Hong Ye asked as she pointed at the door.

“Who said it was my money? I paid them to leave you alone with their money,” He replied with his usual calm voice.

“ With THEIR money?” She asked, still confused at how that had happened. Lin Hong Ye walked to the window and thoughtfully reviewed what had just happened during Miao Ting Feng’s fight with the three men.

Miao Ting Feng went on to take his boots off one by one and placed it by the bottom of the bed. All the while, Lin Hong Ye was piecing the pieces of the puzzle together in her mind. “Oh! You took their money pouches while you fought them!” She said, finally realizing how Miao Ting Feng had pulled the wool over the wolves’ eyes.

Miao Ting Feng lips curved slightly into a half smile, knowingly as he straightened well-built body from his crouching posture he had as he put the boots aside.

“But I saw three money purses. One of them was my money purse you had emptied and returned the amount to me. How can it be full?” She asked.

“Miss Lin. Should I explain everything to you?” He asked and waited for her reply. She nodded. He signaled her to sit down at across from his bed.

“I believe those men will soon find the third money purse is not full of money, but full of pebbles. While I had you wait by the doors, I gathered some pebbles from a nearby pond. After fighting a fight they cannot win, the leader was obviously going to strike a bargain and retreat.” He explained.

Lin Hong Ye laughed and smiled at the young man’s resourcefulness in outsmarting and defeating those men earlier. Just then, Miao Ting Feng stood up and went to open the doors of his room. He called out for Old Li and in minutes Old Li arrived to attend to his young master's requests.

“Housekeeper Li, please provide Miss Lin with room for her to stay the night. And please give her anything she needs, if she asks,” Miao Ting Feng instructed.
“Yes, young master, I will do just as you say,” He replied obediently and turned to Lin Hong Ye. “Young Miss, this way please.”

Lin Hong Ye looked from Miao Ting Feng and to the old housekeeper, then promptly stood up to follow the old man. When she looked back remembering she had forgotten to express her gratitude, he had already closed his bedroom doors. She quickly blurted out "Thank you, young master Miao!"

She didn't know if he had heard her, but she promised herself she would repay his kindness somehow.

Chapter 9: Arrival at SuZhou

Next morning, Miao Ting Feng awoke and found he had been sleeping in his old bedroom. Many times during the ten years, he had awoken from his slumber wanting to believe his family was still alive and well. He put on his boots and went to wash his face using the water from the bronze washbasin in the room. Old Li must have filled it while he was fast asleep, he thought. After wiping his face dry, he hung the face cloth back on the rack. Then he opened the window and saw everything was covered with the white snow in the courtyard outside his bedroom.

Suddenly, he his ears tingled as he heard light footsteps coming towards his bedroom followed by three knocks at his doors. He went over to open the double doors and there appeared Lin Hong Ye.

“Housekeeper Li said breakfast is ready. Please get dressed and come out for breakfast,” Lin Hong Ye said and quickly averted her eyes when she noticed he appeared to be wearing nothing, except his long underpants. The image of his bare muscular body still fresh in her mind and her face blushed pink as she looked down at her hands and down to her small feet.

After seeing her awkward response, Miao Ting Feng quickly went over and put on his white undershirt followed by two other blue and tan colored robes. It appears Lin Hong Ye was the only one abashed for seeing a half naked man.

“Miss Lin, please you go on ahead. I will meet you at the main reception hall soon.” He replied courteously.

He closed the door and she left quickly afterwards. Miao Ting Feng looked around his fairly large bedroom and suddenly remembered something he had long forgotten. He went over to his bed and reached underneath to find a long wooden box. He brought it over to the table and opened it. There lay long magnificent sword and a letter. He remembered his father had stayed after at the forge site after all the workers had left. He had spied on his father working late at night making this long sword. He had also remembered how happy his father was when he finished hammering on the iron sword and casting it in the water. Miao Ting Feng picked the letter up to see it was a letter addressed to him.

In the letter, his father wrote how proud he was to have Miao Ting Feng as his son. He was proud to see Miao Ting Feng was eagerly learning the family trade. He also wrote that he wished to give this Faithful Heart Sword to him on his eighteenth birthday. But knowing his son, he guessed Miao Ting Feng had already found the sword hiding underneath his sword.

Miao Ting Feng then took up the Faithful Heart Sword and slowly slide off the scabbard in one hand and pulled the sword out in the other hand. It was truly one of my father’s best made swords. But something about the hilt felt different and lighter than most of the swords his father had produced. However, at that moment, he didn’t pay too much attention as his eyes became watery with tears. He quickly put the sword down and went over to wash his face once more.

When Miao Ting Feng finally came out to join Lin Hong Ye at the breakfast table, he was already packed and ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

“Young Master, please come have a seat. Young Miss Lin had woken up early to prepare this breakfast for you,” said the old housekeeper.

Miao Ting Feng sat down to a table set with small bowls of rice porridge, fried noodle , steamed sweet buns and a plate of salted cabbage to eat with the porridge. He picked up a bowl of plain rice porridge and Lin Hong Ye joined him.

“Housekeeper Li, come sit down and eat with us,” Lin Hong Ye invited the elderly housekeeper.

He politely refused as it was not proper to have masters and servants eat at the same table. But she kept insisting he joined them.

“Mister Miao, you wouldn’t mind if Housekeeper Li had breakfast with us, right?” She asked him as he quickly ate.

“Housekeeper Li. Go inside the kitchen and grab another set of bowl and utensils. You may eat with us here if you wish,” Miao Ting Feng ordered in a cool and nearly emotionless tone.

Lin Hong Ye smiled and gestured for the old man to go. She turned over to see Miao Ting Feng had taken a sweet bun off the plate at the center of the table.

“Mister Miao, I would like to ask---,“ Lin Hong Ye started to say, but got interrupted.

“Miss Lin, I have helped you chase away your pursuers. Need I remind you that favor granted to you was a one time thing?” Miao Ting Feng said curtly.

“How can you say that after I had just cooked a meal for you?” She asked.

“Did I ask you to cook for me?” He asked coldly.

At this moment, he had stopped eating the food and looked up at her. Her face looked soft, her eyebrows arched in annoyed facial expression. “No, but I did cook this meal to express my gratitude for your assistance yesterday with the Three Old Tigers. I also wanted to ask you to help find my parents for me. Of course, I would pay and compensate you accordingly,” Lin Hong Ye explained.

“Why can’t you find someone else to do the job? There are plenty of escort agencies and government officials to help you.” He replied.

“They never seen my parents before, but you have,” Lin Hong Ye pointed out, her voice raised up emotionally.

Miao Ting Feng looked surprised as he saw the young lady started to cry with tears flowing down. Just then, Housekeeper Li returned and quickly turned around, not wanting to disturb them. Miao Ting Feng reached out wanting to touch her shoulder and comfort her. He could see she was trembling in her emotional release of tears. But he quickly pulled his hand back, though he looked on sympathetically.

Finally, he breathed out a sigh and said, “Miss Lin, I promise I’ll escort you on the road to find your parents."

“Really?” She looked up and their eyes met. He nodded as he watched her dry her tears, though the damage was already done. Her eyes were red from the tears she had cried.

Several weeks later, Miao Ting Feng and Lin Hong Ye soon arrived within the walls of SuZhou province and were looking around for the Red Moon Inn. After settling in the inn with two bedrooms for each of them, he excused himself to go on a separate business matter for the evening. He was walking along the street, when he heard a man crying out for his life in an alley behind.

“Ah...Miss...Please don’t kill me!” cried a middle age man.

The girl was short and had an impish expression on her face. She held the man hostage with a knife held aiming at the man.

“Please miss, here are all the gold and silver taels in this pouch and here’s a box of jewelry, you can have it all. Just don’t kill me,” said the man begging for his life.

Just as the girl was going to stab down at the man, a hand grip tightly at her wrist and stopped her from scaring her prey. The man withered by a corner while smiling secretly behind his pouch of gold and silver taels.

“Hasn’t your parents taught you to respect your elders?” asked Miao Ting Feng with fierce gaze as he gripped the young girl’s wrist even tighter.

“Ouch! That hurts!”

The girl began to whine and cry at the same time. When Miao Ting Feng hesitated a moment for he hated it most when women cry. She took that moment to bite Miao Ting Feng on his hand, and fled using her swift lightness kung fu and somersaulted else where.

The man, who was withering against the alley, then straightened and went to thank Miao Ting Feng as he was walking away.

“Mister! Mister! Thank you for saving me away from that nasty girl! She was going to kill me, for all the money I’ve collected from the owners of the free market stalls.”

“You take the hard earn money of hard working vendors and call it his own huh?” He asked coldly, his expression stiffened.

The man straightened his back and proclaimed proudly. “It’s a good earning while not even breaking any sweat doing it. Then when I’m not doing that, I usually go to the Thousand Flowers brothel to see girls dance and serve me wine,” he said and laughed as he nudged Miao Ting Feng as if he would even bother to go to those places.

“I’ve heard enough of your rubbish, give me all the stuff in your hands if you value your life,” He said with a deep, stern voice. He held the Faithful Heart Sword out, so the sword blade slide open several inches shoved it close to the man’s fat neck.

After the man gave Miao Ting Feng everything, Miao Ting Feng took a short knife and cut the string that kept the man’s pants up. Leaving the man crying for the loss of all his valuables, with his pants dropped down to the ground and a puddle of wet urine freshly made as he feared for his life.

Soon after, Miao Ting Feng had finish distributing all the money and jewelry to all the poor and hungry people. He stopped at a vendor selling woman’s jewelries and handkerchiefs. There he saw a green jade bangle and decided to buy it. After securely hiding the jade in a brown silk pouch, he kept it safe in his inner robes. He smiled fondly as he made his way back to the Red Moon Inn.

Cool

I like ch. 9, a sweet encounter. But ch. 8 is a little confusing for me. The movement of Tien Feng was a bit disconnecting. But the storyline was good. I like the lin girl already...

Chapter 10: Silver Bats Appear at Night

On the way back to the Red Moon Inn, Miao Ting Feng stopped by street side noodle cart and ordered a bowl of plain noodle soup. Happily, he ate and satisfied his hunger. As he was able to give the vendor a few coins for the bowl of noodle, something happened.

Suddenly, a loud scream for help came from the alley nearby. The noodle vendor was so scared by it that he immediately packed his things hurriedly and left without even collecting the money from Miao Ting Feng. Courageous and righteous as he was, Miao Ting Feng grabbed his Faithful Heart Sword and rushed to the alley to answer the cry for help.

The alley was dark, damp and misty. The large figure of a man was seen with back pressed on the wall and screaming loudly, “Help! Don’t kill me! I still have a young wife, elderly parents and many children to feed. They won’t survive without me!”

The mists cleared as Miao Ting Feng approached them and the face of the man’s attacker could clearly be seen. His fair complexion and his clearly formed features proved he was a man of handsome appearances. However, his eyes carried such hatred, coldness and arrogance.

Seeing that the attacker did not halt despite his victim’s pleas, Miao Ting Feng rushed up to help. He himself had experienced the pain and suffering of losing a family member. He wasn’t going to let someone else go through the same tragedy if it was in his power to stop it.

Then, a soft hissing could be heard and when he looked down, his gaze was greeted by a long red snake spreading out on the ground, and flicked his tongue invitingly at him.
Miao Ting Feng immediately drew his sword, attempting to slay the Tai Pan when suddenly, a flash of brown attacked his hand. A sharp pain pierced the back of his hand and he dropped the sword.

“Ru Dian! Ru Lei!” A call came and the snake as well as the brown fur ball scampered in response to the call. When the flash had finally stopped, the clear shape of a cheeky marten could be seen, and next to it, was a leg, which belonged to the attacker he had seen earlier.

“Who are you?’ The man asked coldly, and pointed his long silvery sword at him. The other man, who had been screaming for help, slumped down towards the floor, grateful and relieved that someone had answered his call.

“My name is Miao Ting Feng,” he answered, “And there is nothing more I detest than people like you who destroy people’s families and create orphans!” He angrily sped up to attack the assailant to stop the tragedy from happening.

The man’s eyes widened when he heard the name, but he did not have the time to say anything as in a matter of seconds, the blade of the Faithful Heart Sword was already in front of him. The Tai Pan and marten rushed to help their master but was ordered back. With flashes of silver, Miao Ting Feng and the mysterious man fought, but with a false move, the man succeeded in distracting Miao Ting Feng, and sliced of the victim’s right ear.

The man howled in pain as he jumped around and clutched the bloody spot where his ear had been. The attacker was content at his achievement, but suddenly, a flash of Miao Ting Feng’s sword blade cut and bled his arm, which made him stop. Miao Ting Feng stared bewildered at the man who was looking at his wound and wondered why he had not retaliated yet.

Then remembering the crime that his opponent was going to commit, his anger took control again and he lunged at him with a full attack. A silver projectile suddenly flew at him and his opponent disappeared after he had dodged it. The projectile was in the shape of a silver bat and it was not thrown with the strength to injure a person. It was a mere method of distraction.

The man who had been sweating heavily finally rose to his feet and thanked Miao Ting Feng heartedly. “Oh thank you hero! You saved my life and I can never repay you for that! But I can get a discount for you at the Drunken Stars House. I am very familiar with the ladies there!”

Miao Ting Feng was shocked! What kind of man had he just saved? Suddenly, loud shouts, “He’s over there!” came from outside the alley and shortly afterwards, four policemen came in with firebrands and brandished swords.

He was just about to tell the policemen what had happened here, when they rushed past him and seized the one-eared man. “Ha! Ha! Li Jiu, we have finally caught you!” They said, “We are going to have a feast tonight for bringing you in!” One of them gave Li Jiu a knock over the head and he fell unconscious.

“What are you doing?” Miao Ting Feng asked, confused.

“Why?” One of them answered him, “Because this bastard had committed all sorts of crimes. You name it, he’s done it. He steals, he rapes, and even sold his parents for labor and his wife to a brothel just to pay for his drinking habits!”

Then, the policeman noticed the silver bat projectile still in his hands. “Hey guys! Let’s catch him! He’s the Silver Night Bat! He has five hundred taels on his head!” The policemen immediately dropped Li Jiu bound and encircled Miao Ting Feng.

“No, you must be misunderstood! I am not him!” He protested, but to no avail.

Suddenly, a dark figure dropped from the sky and four silver bats flew and found their target on the sleeping pressure point of the policemen. It was the man who Miao Ting Feng had fought with earlier, the Silver Night Bat! He stretched out a hand and pulled him upward, disappearing just more policemen were coming.

Is anyone reading our fanfic at all besides us??

Great chapter...but remember to put the chapter number before the title. I don't mind you writing a chapter using my character. I guess my character would definetly say that's the last time he's going to save someone in a darken alley without seeing the whole situation for the whole before taking it to action. heheee! Well...great chapter....

So who will continue? Charbydis if you do..please write about it as we agreed upon...

Wink

SwordMaster87: Well...there isn't an offical title for the fanfic yet. So until we do find a title...I don't think we'd want it on a site and the matter of the fanfic being on your site still has to get the agreement of all three of us.

Cool

no problem with it, but you might want to wait till this story is actually finished.

what do you all think about the following suggestion for the title:
The Three Warriors
The Legend of the Trio
The Heroic Three
"History's third dimension is always fiction."

Question

Legend of the Trio? Ummm...

how about
The Legend of Three<------
-The Power of Three
-The Two Heroes and Lady Bandit? HAHHA just kidding

The Heroic Three just sounds too easy...no sparks...

Chapter 11: A Business Matter

Lin Xiu Lan was nursing her wounded pride alone in a dark cave. "Whoever you are, I swear I am to hunt you down and pay back the humiliation you gave me, or my name is not Lin Xiu Lan."

She rubbed her bottom lightly and groaned. “The brute! I only borrowed a few taels from a rich man, and he came out of no where and gave me this beating.' She gritted her teeth when she recalled her defeat.

Early this afternoon, she walked around the busy market of Suzhou, scanning the area so that she had something to report to her six teachers, who had left the forest after her and would arrive soon. Suddenly, her eyes fell on a money pouch an old man tied loosely around his waist. Her hands suddenly felt the itch, and she felt an urge to work. I'll just borrow a few coins and give back the rest to the owner, she thought. She decided for it seemed so long that she hadn't put the art of pick-pocketing to use.

With the new goal, she moved casually toward her victim. Then she staggered a little and collided with the man with money pouch. As quick as lightning, she gently reached in the pouch and took out a handful of coins, which she quickly hid in her shirt. Then she profusely apologized to the man and continued staggering on.

When she reached a street corner, she took to her heels. Finally, she stopped and grinned proudly at herself. "Xiu Lan, that's not bad at all. I would give you 90 points. Just need to be a little faster, that's all."

Suddenly, a cold voice spoke. "I would rate it only five out of ten because you didn't see me."

Lin Xiu Lan swirled back and saw a tall, handsome man in his youth looming over her. He said, "I'll let you go, if you returned ten coins you have stolen from Mr. Wei."

Lin Xiu Lan was alarmed, but kept calm. "I don't know what you are talking about. Don't just try to act like a hero and arrest anyone on the street." She hissed and looked for a way out. Unfortunately, she was at the end road, and the only path was blocked by this tall man.

The man looked at her with keen eyes. "Hmm, a small girl but this tricky. You'd better change your way or your future might not be so pleasant. I wanted to give you a chance to redeem yourself, that's why I didn't denounce you right there in front of everyone. Mister Wei is a good man, and he needs that money for his daughter's dowry. Please give back the money, and I'll forget that I ever meet you. Just don’t repeat your actions."

Lin Xiu Lan was suddenly enraged. No one is allowed to give her lectures save for her six teachers. She held her head high and challenged her opponent. "I am not afraid of your bullying. If you think you can catch me, prove it."

As soon as she finished the sentence, she had already jumped up, aiming at the roof of the nearby house. But the tall man had guessed her intention. With one swift leap, he covered her exit and reached out with one hand to grab her.

Lin Xin Lan dodged his hand and threw needles at him. Nobody had ever managed to evade her projectiles, but today this man did. The man caught all needles with his fingers in one hand and grabbed her with the other hand. He descended to the ground with the struggling girl.

Lin Xiu Lan used her last trick. She yelled, "Help! I am being raped." But before she could have uttered more, her speech acupoint was sealed.

The tall man lifted her upside down and shook her till all the coins she had hidden in the shirt fell down. He was about to let the girl go, but changed his mind.

"You are an unruly girl, and I will give you something to remember me by. Don't ever try to work here again, because if I catch you next time, it wouldn't be just a few spanks."

Then he laid her on top of his knees and gave her a few rough spanks. Then he unsealed her pressure points and released her. In the next second, he disappeared, taking her coins with him.
