Love the old school looking posters.

Ditto! Just look at all that eye-candy.

I have a feeling that Ady's character will be a very minor one in this movie since they already have so many stars.

Saving General Yang is opening across Asia tomorrow (4 April 2013)!!!

Cinema Online Mon, Apr 1, 2013 1:47 PM SGT

1 Apr Fans who waited since 4am were rewarded when Ekin Cheng, Wu Chun, Vic Chou and director Ronny Yu appeared in Novena 2, Singapore on 30 March 2013 to promote their upcoming wuxia epic film, "Saving General Yang", and a few interesting details were revealed in the process.

When Ronny Yu was asked about how he came to cast so many Hong Kong and Taiwanese heartthrobs in the film, he mentioned when he first decided to shoot a film about the Yang Family three years ago, he aimed to make an adaptation with "the most handsome and coolest Yang family", which led him to the casting.

The sheer ambition of the film also bagged the question of whether there was any accident that happened during the filming. One of the lead stars, Ekin Cheng, shared that there were no major accidents as they had been "protected by the Yang family".
Meanwhile, Vic Chou's character as archer was commented by many to resemble Orlando Bloom's role in Peter Jackson's "Lord Of The Rings". To this, Vic merely laughed and said, "Asians will think that me, an Asian, looks better and vice versa."

With so much male testosterone on set, Wu Chun shared about how they bonded, "Everyone has their own way; some through playing computer games, other through having meals. I remembered that on the first day around 2 to 3am, when we were in the jungle, we were playing games on Ekin Cheng's iPad, which was really funny because we were all in our heavy armour costumes!"
The Taiwanese star also talked about his shirtless scene in the movie, and pretended to take off his suit to show his fans, making them cheer out loud.

Director Ronny Yu and the lead actors of Saving General Yang arrived in Singapore last Saturday to promote the upcoming Chinese blockbuster.

During the press conference at Equarius Hotel (Resorts World Sentosa), Hong Kong screenstar Ekin Cheng and Taiwan actors Vic Zhou and Wu Chun showed off their brotherhood bond formed after months of filming.

Saving General Yang depicts the rescue operation led by the seven sons of the legendary Northern Han General Yang Ye, from a Khitan invasion during the Liao Dynasty in the 10th century.

The production reportedly cost a whooping US$26 million (S$32.5 million) and according to the director, he took two years to decide and finalise the cast for the 'seven sons' - Hong Kong actor Raymond Lam and Chinese actors Yu Bo, Li Chen and Fu Xinbo make up the other four 'brothers'.

Despite a cast of Asian A-listers, the actors got along very well and did not display any sign of 'power struggle'.

Wu Chun recalled how everyone on set grew closer by playing games on Ekin's iPad in the middle of the night. "It's a funny sight how we were crowding around a modern gadget dressed in our ancient armour costumes," he chortled.

I watched this movie expecting my favourite to be Wu Zun/Liu Lang (6th Brother). But Vic Zhou's 3rd Brother archer character won me over despite the fact that he hardly spoke a thing, LOL.

Ooh, you should watch it! It's great fun!! Here are some key aspects of the movie that is different from our favourite TV series:

    - 1st Yang brother played by Ekin Cheng is given a much more prominent role - the one who is most self-sacrificial and takes the lead
    - 4th Yang brother (Li Chen) and 5th Yang brother (Raymond Lam) jump off a cliff...it isn't made clear whether they survived. Popular legend says 4th brother had amnesia and married the Liao princess and 5th brother became a Shaolin monk, but here they jumped off a cliff after torching the pursuing Liaos.
    - The "Duel For Marriage" was between Prime Minister Pan Renmei's son and 6th Yang Brother (Wu Chun) for the hand of Princess Chai. 7th Yang Brother accidentally kills Pan Renmei's son. In our favourite TV series, the "Duel For Marriage" was for Si Niang/ LSS' character.
    - Like the TV series, Pan Renmei's daughter is a concubine of the Emperor. But unlike the TV series, here she is older, demands for 7th Yang Brother's death for killing her brother, and the Emperor can't be bothered about her demands.
    - General Yang's body is carried back to his home by 6th Yang Brother. But popular legend (like in our TV series) says the Liaos retained his body.
    - 3rd Yang Brother played by Vic Zhou is an awesome archer and is the HOTTEST!

Don't expect a deep movie with philosophical messaging. It's not that kind of movie. This is a fun idol movie which makes no apologies about the fact that its selection of actors is based purely on looks and brawn.
