looking for japanese drama- young man training to be ninja

Hi I am looking for this japanese drama played in singapore around the period 1980-1988 of a young man training under master to be skilled ninja. The name used was ninja boy but I cannot find this drama. His master is very strict with training and I remember there was one scene where the master taught him to jump down from a night cliff. Please let me know what is the name of this drama. it is shown in japanese edo period. The ninja boy was dressed in shorts and acted by a young man.
