Default Would it have been a better idea to teach Gok Dai Tung the HL18P instead of the 1YF?

When the heroes of Chinese wulin needed a viable third fighter to meet the challenge of the Mongol trio of Golden Wheel Monk, Fok Do, and Dat Yee Ba during the Heroes Conference at Luk Family Manor in ROCH, they decided to crash-train Cheun Jen Disciple Gok Dai Tung in the 1 Yeung Finger Technique so that maybe he could take on the Golden Wheel Monk. That probably wouldn't have worked out (at least if Gok's opponent were the monk and not the two students), but we never got to see Gok fight any of them because he suffered a fire deviation from trying to crash-train in the 1 Yeung Finger Technique under the Fisherman's tutelage.

The 1 Yeung Finger Technique was one of wulin's elite skills, and it was not an easy one to learn or master. Neither was the Hong Lung 18 Palms, which was another elite wulin skill. Under the circumstances, however, do you think it would have been easier and more effective for Gok to have learned the Hong Lung 18 Palms from Gwok Jing than the 1 Yeung Finger Technique from 1 Deng's students?

You do realise this is TVB filler, don't you?

Canonically, we don't get to see what happens if you make a mistake in training 1 yang finger, but we do see what can happen with the 18 dragon palms - you get paralysed for decades. Personally, if I had to make a choice, I'd rather go for 1 yang finger fire deviation as portrayed by TVB - at least he was up and about and none the worse-for-wear soon after!
