Han Solo
Let's do The Hobbit.

Lets do the hobbit for the month of March.
Han Solo
I must admit that I had recently watched the Hobbit, and was surprised that it has multiple parts.
I last read the book when I was 16 or 17 after I read the trilogy and before I read silmarillion
I remember that the book was a small enjoyable read.
Will write more when I start reading again soon.
Han Solo
I read it for the first time in 7th grade. It was actually part of the school curriculum. I chose a description of Smog's hoard as my first declamation (recitation in public). This was what started the whole Fantasy reading fixation for me, and arguably was the reason I started playing DnD. I read the Lord of the Rings a couple of years later in high school, and Silmarillion on a flight to Australia after I started working.
I bought the unabridged audio book last summer, and listened to it driving to Niagara Falls and back. It's rather surprising how childish it seems now with the dwarves singing at Bilbo's place, their meeting with Beorn, the mostly blood-less confrontation with the trolls, the goblins and elves, and the general lack of graphic violence... I would almost rate this PG.
It was still enjoyable but I'm reading the Neverwinter Saga and Riyria Revelations these days so it was quite a departure from my norm.
HK47: Now do you understand the travails of my existence master? Surely it does not compare to your existence but still...
You: I survive somehow
HK47: As do I. It is our lot in life I suppose master. Shall we find something to kill to cheer ourselves up?

So how does this book club operate? Discuss while we read? I haven't seen the movie, but I did hear that they split the movie adaptations in to more than one installments and did not adapt the whole book for the movie.

Discuss it as we read it. Post your thoughts or musings.
Yes, they split the book into several movie.
The book itself is not that big though. Only a couple of hundred of pages.
Han Solo
I had read the first three or four chapters.
Needless to say, I enjoy it. Pretty simple story structure.
I also enjoy the change in the usage of english from early 20th century to early 21st century.
JRR was using words such as fag and gay in ways that is not used today.
One thing that I need to point out is that the stories in JRR's world- LOTR and The Hobbit- There are a lot of pre-ordained fates. Being born to the right person seems more important than being a hard worker, or original thinker....
Han Solo
I'd better catch up then. I must admit I've been kind of neglecting my reading time.

Yeah I remember that was what someone said Star Wars as well. The whole destiny thing is nothing but elitism at its very worst. Destiny, bleh, what is destiny but someones crappy prediction?
