I've been on a condor trilogy marathon. watching all the old loch, rotc and hsds. I was recently re-watching the new loch (after watching young warriors of the yang clan and was so surprised to recognized so many faces from that series in loch; I knew that they were similar casting but didn't realized how many were cast). I just realized song yang from ywotyc was also yin zhi ping in loch 08 and is yin zhi ping in this remake.

Yes, acting skills matter a ton whether or not there is dubbing. But poor acting still shows, even with great dubbing. There are tons of dramas out there with noticeably bad actors, even if the dubbing is good.

While I would agree that good dubbing can't compensate for the worst actors, I would argue that a mediocre "actor" can be easily covered by good dubbing.

I've seen plenty of behind-the-scenes where the actor just sounds horrible, like they're just reading the lines rather than acting. But then when you watch the dubbed version they all of a sudden seem good.

One example is Ruby Lin in Princess Pearl. While she's grown as an actress over the years, back then she wasn't even close to being like how Ziwei was supposed to be portrayed. But the actress that dubbed her voice made her character.

I think this depends on the viewer. The mood for the type of show you want to see, and how much detail you either choose to notice or not notice. Basic knowledge of acting and/or film production probably plays a role too e.g. the more you know, the more nuance there is to see.

I can understand and agree with both opinions. While I prefer talented - at the very least dedicated - acting skill, it is obvious that just the voice cannot save poor acting. Acting involves such a range of senses, and so obviously visual, that if the actor or actress is crappy with the fundamental visual, we might as well replace the person with an animation and listen to the great dubber.

That being said, I've also felt that a great dubber can change my perspective of an actor/actress. I thought Huan Zhu Ge Ge was a show that had a rare magic and cohesiveness that could balance out it's flaws. So yes, I thought Ruby was wonderful as Ziwei, but was frankly appalled with the lack of acting ability with later projects. C'mon, remember when Ziwei condemned Yong Ma Ma with "servant-hood to the bones"? That was an awesome moment of acting.

For this new ROCH, I'm not expecting too much. Emotional nuance from ROCH characters is difficult to convey with anything but superior acting and direction. I've seen too many try hards with character arcs, especially Li Mo Chou, to not hope too high. For once, I just want XLN's 'Tian Luo Di Wang' with swords to be visualized. It's actually so central to the consistency of the martial plot. Whenever I see XLN teaching YG Tian Luo Di Wang the birdie version, it feels like there is something missing. Until you encounter the offensive sword version .

hey i don't know if it's just me but does anyone know who "bongquiqui" is? she recently got surgery to obtain a more korean look but looks like a downgraded verison of michelle chen. all her photos are photoshopped though so it's kind of hard to tell what her face looks like, her instagram is bongqiuqiu.

good grief... XLN in this version looks like some ordinary maid. I guess there are no other younger actresses to be chosen or can beat Liu Yi Fei as XLN? Zhao Liying would make a perfect Mu Nianci... Chen Xiao as Yang Kang... hm not bad. Guo Fu & Guo Xiang both seem fine. Haven't checked out the rest of cast.... I'll see this version for everything except XLN, there's nothing that stands out about her... sooo ordinary... even plastic surgery wouldn't help either.
