Tell me about it. This was the first series of HXM that I've seen and it totally ruined my image of him. No matter how handsome he is I cannot like or praise him in any other types of role he plays. I totally disliked and despised his YG's version so much I didn't even finish watching ROCH.

I'm ok with him playing YG. He's a decent actor. Judging from his performance in Swordsman and in his previous works, Chen Xiao's acting definitely SLAYS HXM's, so he can surely do a much better job than this inadequate actor.

HXM was also very good in "The Message" and "大汉天子". I think he's a good actor and wonder if his portrayal of YG was influenced by the director. It definitely didn't help that he was acting against a wooden LYF.

I agree that The New Shanghai Bund was one of his best series. I think him being in the upcoming release of Yue Fei was be good as well.

So I just read that Yu Zheng released a statement saying he's going to follow Jin Yong's revised novel of ROCH. I haven't read the revisions, but I do know that JY made some changes (to the characters' personalities and plot) that caused a great deal of criticism from his fans.

Some major changes are the relationship between XLN and YG being more open and direct with each other and also GX hoping to be DLN ("Da Long Nu"), dreaming about what if she had met YG before XLN. So I think that fits the recent articles released about YZ making XLN more flirty and initiative towards YG and him developing love scenes between GX and YG.

That said, when the official ROCH airs next year, should we blame YZ or JY for the crappy story? I think JY pretty much destroys his own masterpiece every time he revises his classic novels. He's pretty similar to YZ the older he gets, only caring about making profit at the expense of his characters and wanting to adapt his stories to suit the now teenagers' taste (who the majority are very shallow and materialistic due to how society has become). After becoming filthy rich, JY lost his original spirit from when he first started writing these novels some 50 years ago. Why change something that was epic from the start? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I am still looking forward to this series though. After all, remakes and adaptations are more or less the same. It would be nice for a change of scenery and something fresh. The flip side of that is if you change TOO much of the characters we've come to love so much, then you face much criticism. I guess it's hard to be in YZ's shoes. I just hope he at least focuses on the martial arts more and stop using ridiculous CGI and making ROCH look like a video game instead of a drama.

I honestly could not stand LYF in her previous dramas before ROCH. However, I thought she was extremely suitable for XLN - a cold, ethereal beauty. That's why I think Gu Li Naszha who is also very raw in her acting but has similar natural, ethereal beauty would be perfect for XLN.

Yeah, both Eddie Peng and Hu Ge have the same strength - they can act well being young and comical and strong and brooding. Hu Ge will never be considered in a YZ drama but maybe Eddy ? I would watch it for Eddie just as I watched (but never finished) that crappy Swordman for Wallace Huo.

GLNZ wouldn't be too bad as XLN except that's never going to happen. She's with Tang Ren, and this is Yu Zheng's version. Winning the jackpot would be easier than her starring in this adaptation.

It takes real acting skills and a great sense of comic timing to be a good Yang Guo. I don't think Chen Xiao has what it takes. Selection of a suitable actor for Yang Guo has to go way beyond looks.

Oh dear, the Condor Heroes trilogy & DGSD are my favorite wuxia novels from Jin Yong. Sadly, I didn't enjoy 2003's DGSD nor 2006's ROCH. I'm excited for this remake yet so nervous that the casting of XLN will yet again, disappoint. Although I adore Huang Xiao Ming I do agree with previous posters that he excels at certain roles - the solemn, mysterious, bad boy types. He was great in New Shanghai Bund but failed in ROCH & Royal Tramp. LYF has a lot of fans on this forum so I won't go there but let's just say I am so NOT a fan, lol.
