Who's Angelababy playing in this? Su Daji?

Sorry, but Fan Bingbing has played the definitive Daji. It's like Chen Jianbin's Cao Cao or Zhou Xun's Huang Rong. Can never be surpassed. But Angelababy's pretty enough for it. I'm surprised she's stepping away from cinema long enough to do a TV series.

Of course, 50 episodes is not enough to adequately cover the entire novel.

To date, only Cheng Lidong's The Legend and the Hero (two parts of 40 eps EACH) has accomplished that. VERY few characters/storylines from the novel were left out. No one has done a more authentic adaptation, not even close.

Regardless of what the idiot viewers say, it's by far the best version, and I highly doubt it will be surpassed.

Also, where is Stanley Tong's latest series, The Patriot Yue Fei? Thought that was supposed to be airing on HBO this year?

^Most likely, actors will speak the language that they themselves are most comfortable with (GYY would speak Mandarin) and it'll be dubbed in both Mandarin and Catonese.

Yue Fei's air date has been set for this summer.

^ The language might depend on how Stanley wants it. Raymond Lam, Bosco and Angelababy can speak mandarin pretty well. Far better than Louis Koo's disastrous mandarin hehe.

Actually the cast might be still be be unconfirmed and I think can change anytime given that their schedules clash. The only thing that's confirmed is that's confirmed is Stanley is going ahead with this huge project. I'm not sure whether the 3D is necessary. 3D is what makes the budget soar up high.

Angelababy rarely in ancient piece isn't she? She's pretty. I also rarely see GYY in a TV drama let alone anything ancient, but she looks gorgeous in costumes.

TVB's 2001 adaptation of GOH was pretty bad IMO. I don't remember much but I think Benny Chan overacted as the lead character and a young Michelle Ye was annoying.

At first I heard only LF and AB will be in this but perhaps Stanley Tong also has plans to invite the rest. Quite a surprise to see Gao Yuan Yuan and Bosco Wong come up.

However I don't think Bosco will be in this because his schedule is already fully booked until the end of the year with a modern TVB series with Michelle Yim in tow starting May after he finished YS in Hengdian.

Hmm. IS Ray going to play the main lead Na Zha? Does that mean they are going to stick two buns on the side of his head?

But judging from looks, I thin Ray may be casted as the King and Bosco as Na Zha. Bosco's not very kingly looking.

I hope GYY plays Daji, she was great as the good-turned-evil Zhou Zhi Ruo. She's gorgeous as well as a good actress. Don't think Angelababy is experienced enough to take on such a role.

^ I think Na Zha was originally only a supporting character, but made into the lead by the 2001 adaptation.

Raymond for sure will be the lead so it depends on which character Stanley wants to pick to be the lead. I agree that Raymond looks Kingly. If they really get Bosco, he should be suitable for any full villain or semi evil character, but not the royal type.

GYY is a better actress than Angelababy. If they really get her I agree too that GYY is more suitable for DaJi than Angelababy. Both actresses are pretty tho

If GYY won't be in this, who else can be Daji huh. Let me think.

If the story follows the novel, male lead roles are potentially King Wu of Zhou (Ji Fa), King Wen of Zhou (Xi Bo Hou), King Zhou of Shang or Jiang Ziya. Ray and Bosco are probably too young to be given the roles of Xi Bo Hou or Jiang Ziya, so its going to be either Ji Fa or King Zhou.

I am interested in who would play NuWa.

After that one press conference by Stanley, I can't find any more information now. How boring, he don't even confirm yet when he will shoot this drama. Raymond Lam now is filming Luk Siu Fung and later will film a Raymond Wong movie Wesley.

The posters look great but I'm just worried they're going to over emphasize the CG and end up making it look weird.

Also, is it really supposed to be in 3D?

Thanks for bumping this thread with the update. Not sure why exactly, but those campy posters have really sparked an interest in me, so much so that I made a blog post about it (above).

I've also compared this cast against what I still consider to be the definitive adaptation of the novel—The Legend and the Hero.

I'm surprised that Kong Xuan made it into the film (though he is a favorite char. of mine) when others such as Yuanshi Tianzun, Long Xu Hu, Old Man of the South Pole, Shen Gongbao, and the suspiciously absent King Wu have yet to be announced.

And I just found out about the TV series The Investiture of the Gods (2014), which stars Sammul Chan and Zhang Xinyu. Lots of attention being paid to a five hundred year old novel all of a sudden.
