From what I heard. The newspaper version of ROCH’s ending was as above. The readers opposed the ideal of letting XLN die and threaten to burn JY’s newspaper office. Finally, YJ gave up and rewrote the ending on his newspaper, the same as the book version’s ending.

without reliable source, i dont believe the story.
my online friend said that she remembered in interview Jin Yong said he once had a mind to make Xiaolongnu died, but later changed his mind and made a happy ending instead.
so the story just a theory or made-up by fans. let's call that a fanfic.
