The star stud cast of The Monkey King movie releases an epic batch of movie posters. The Monkey King project had begun process in 2008 and filming started in 2010, the production team felt that technology wasnt advanced enough to have outstanding effects in the fantasy scenes, but after the huge hit The Lord Of the Rings trilogy Chinas film market also started to rapidly expand. It is filmed by Hong Kong director Cheang Pou-Soi, itll be based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to The West that was written by Wu Chengen in Ming Dynasty time.
A great line up of many popular stars took part in the production, Donnie Yen, Chow Yun-fat, Aaron Kwok, Joe Chen (Qiao En), Peter Ho, Kelly Chen, Zhang Zilin and Gigi Leung.
According to chairman of Filmko Entertainment Group, this project cost an estimate of 500 million yuan ($82.6 million USD) on promotion alone and 250 million yuan ($41.3 million USD) on filming and post production work.
For this particular production top-class Hollywood special effects companies were asked to help. Daniel L. Symmes, who worked on The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Transformers: Dark of the Moon is in charge of the 3D designs. Shaun Smith who worked on 300 and I Am Legend did the make-up effects. David Ebner is the visual effects adviser, hes worked on Alice in Wonderland and Spider-Man 3. Lastly, Kevin Rafferty, who worked on Men in Black II and Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace.
This is definitely a big production as many of the above Hollywood special effects team created awesome effects for those popular movies listed. Much money was spent on special effects as Wang said, We lavished more than 200 million yuan on special effects. While Chinese visual effects companies worked on hundreds of scenes, nearly 2,000 scenes were done by international teams in North America, South Korea, India, Thailand and Australia.
