    Cool Short Story of Gigi

    Appearance of the thief

It was five o'clock in the morning. The sun was rising, spreading light golden ray in the reddish sky. Soon, a market would be opened and another busy day would begin.

On a high stonewall surrounding the Gao Mansion, there appeared a white form climbing steadily on it. Upon looking closer, the white form was a young man clad entirely in white. At the moment, he was just reaching the top of the wall. Then he took deep breath and flew down into the backyard of the mansion.

He landed lightly on the ground and with great speed, went straight to an east side room. As expected, its only window was barred strongly. However, the man in white leisurely took out a glass bottle from his pocket and poured its liquid on the steel bars. There was a hiss noise, and the window was eaten up rapidly with the liquid acid, leaving a large gap for the stranger to go in.

Once in the room, the man went directly to a shelf in one corner of the room. On that shelf, there is a long narrow box. With pleasing smile, the man picked up the box and made an exit the same way as he had come in.

When Master Gao came into his study an hour later, he found to his horror that his treasure was already gone. In its place was a single white hair. "The White Cat!" He exclaimed.

    The Trap

Two days later at the middle of the night, the same shadow dressed entirely in white was approaching the government courtyard in Hangzhou. At the gate, he stopped and looked up and saw a wooden pole about 20 feet high stood solitary in the middle of the yard. The pole was smooth and had been polished with oil to prevent climbing. On top of the pole was a small parcel, long and narrow in shape.

The White Cat snickered. With his quick eyes, he could see archers and soldiers hidden behind the bushes around the pole area. He walked back a few feet and found a big oak tree. Nodding with satisfactory, he tied his waist with one end of a rope then started climbing the tree. When he reached a branch about the same level as the pole top, he stopped and tied the other end of the rope to the tree. Then he took a jump.

With one strong leap, he flew into the air toward the pole. Then he kicked the air, sending himself to the top of the pole. In one second, he reached up and retrieved the parcel from the pole.

Suddenly, showers of arrows came up at him. The courtyard was lit up, revealing a troop of soldiers waiting to catch the famous White Cat.

Some arrows struck the rope, and it was severed from the tree, causing the thief to fall down.

With great reflex, the White Cat somersaulted in the air with one hand clutching his prize and another catching incoming arrows. He landed his feet neatly on the slippery pole. To his enemy's surprise, as if walking on the steady ground, the man in white walked up the pole easily while throwing down the captured arrows back to the ambush force below. Commotions began as everyone was trying to dodge sharp arrows. When they looked up from their cover again, the thief was gone with his booty.

    Poisoned Prawn <IMG SRC="smilies/drool.gif" border="0">

A young man was walking into a famous seafood restaurant of Yangzhou. He had pale skin with a handsome face. Despite his youthful look, his hair and his short beard was totally siken white. He was given a table by an old waiter.

The young man looked around, taking in the smell of cooking with dreamy expression. He then ordered the restaurant's famous dish, streamed prawns.

When the food came, he lost no time in gobbled up all the prawns. When he was done, he licked his lips contently. Then he ran up the wall of the building and hopped onto one beam in the corner. Sitting on the beam was an oblong object wrapped up in silk cloth. He took it and jumped down to the floor.

When he was about to leave, two rough men got up from a table nearby and faced him. One of them said, "White Cat, you cannot escape today. We the Wu Brothers are here to punish you for the law."

The White Cat grinned. "If you think you can catch me..." He challenged.

The other Wu man laughed evilly, "Not without poisoning you first. Fool! Didn't you know that the prawns you just ate were poisoned?"

The white hair man remained calm. He replied unconcernedly, "You mean these?" With that, he opened his mouth and spew the poison out to the faces of two Wu men.

The two brothers could not dodge the poison in time and ended up collapsed onto the ground, howling from pains.

When the reinforcement came in, the man with white beard was nowhere to be seen.

    Cat in a Net

The fourth mission took the White Cat to the capital. There, one night, he scaled the tightly guarded wall of the palace with ease and advanced into a flower garden without being seen.

Under a willow tree on the north side of the palace, he began digging. After a moment, he found a box hidden among rotten leaves. Happily, he reached for it. As soon as he touched the box, swishing sound was heard in the air. Before the White Cat could have stood up, a net was thrown over him, rending him to be still.

A shadow appeared and walked toward the captured thief. It said laughingly, "So a cat has to be caught with a net. This is a special net, strong and indestructable. Even with wings, you wouldn't able to escape today."

The famous thief smiled cooly. "Not so fast. Haven't you heard of Iron Claws?" He lifted his hands and used the iron nails that he had equipped with earlier to slash the net into pieces. In a blink of an eye, he was gone like a wind. Only his voice lingered, "Miss Huang, we'll meet again."

The woman named Huang could only stamped her feet in rage.

    The Jade Empress

A door was opened slowly, and the White Cat walked inside the room noiselessly. The room was dimly lit with numerous candles. Incense fragrances hung heavily in the atmosphere, making him a little intoxicated.

The interior was luxuriously decorated. Every piece of furniture was exquisively crafted from jade stone. In the center of the room, a figure was declining on a bed. That figure gazed at the newcomer and motioned all attendants to leave the room.

When everyone was gone and the door was closed, the White Cat kneeled down and paid respect graciously. "Empress, I have accomplished the tasks. Here they are." He then took out four boxes, all are long and narrow in shape and presented them to the figure on the bed.

The Jade Empress smiled. She took out a similar box from under her dress and opened it. Inside laid a green feather. She opened the other four boxes she had just received and uncovered four more feathers in different colors; blue, red, white, and yellow.

She touched each feather tenderly and laughed with mirth. "Excellent work. Here is your reward." She threw him a bag full of gold coins.

The White Cat looked at the gold bag of the floor in front of him unconcernedly. He ventured, "You know I'm not here because of that. I brought you the four feathers so that you can show me your true face."

The Jade Empress was taken aback. "What do you mean? I have engaged you to work for me. Now it is over. I don't want to see you again."

The White Cat grinned. "Ha-ha. Didn't I say I will you again, Miss Huang?" With that, he threw a handful of powder toward the bed. An explosion of light appeared and for a moment, the room was lit with bright light as if it was under the noon sun.

The Jade Empress shrieked. She tried to cover herself, but she was too late. With one quick jump, the White Cat had her in his arms. She was definitely Miss Huang, a beautiful girl with smooth skin and fair complextion.

"Why? How?" Miss Huang cried in desperation. Her real identity was revealed and her plan had now been uncovered.

"Easy, Empress. I recognized your body smell from my superior nose. That was how I detected the poison in my prawns too. Now, you didn't really want these useless feathers. You just want to keep me engage so that I wouldn't get on your ways of stealing a real treasure from the palace. You have assumed the name of the Jade Empress from the exotic place and gave me a convincing tale of retrieving four religious icons of your sects. Isn't this right, miss Huang?"

"What are you going to do to me now?" Miss Huang asked, trembling. She knew that she could never defeat the White Cat.

"Hand me the treasure, and I'll let you go."

"I'm not sure if you really would want that?" She asked coyly, gaining once again her composure.

"Why not?" It was the White Cat's turn to puzzle.

"Well, simply because I am that treasure." She smiled. "I was planning for the downfall of the most evil officer for my Emperor, and I wanted to pull his attentions toward you. I'm sorry that I have misled you thus. But if you are still willing to claim me, you would never be regret."

The new information stunned the famous thief. He looked up at her gorgeous face and sighed defeatedly. "It's probably my fate to end up with the like of you. But I tell you, living with a thief like me is a hard life."

To with, the girl answered shyly, "Your home is my home. I'll go with you everywhere."

What more could a man want? He whispered, "I hope you like prawns too."

In the morning, the two new lovers set foot toward the east. There is a new booty to be stole. Five color feathers were decorated handsomely on the new hat of the White Cat. His new wife had given to him as a wedding present.

    The End....

If you hadn't realized that yet, this is the story inspired by my white cat, Xiao Bai aka Gigi. He is the model of the White Cat, the famous thief.
