Default The Gwok Jing/Hui Juk Connection

Gwok Jing and Hui Juk are two Jin Yong characters who are seldom part of the same conversation. The only reason I ever thought of them at the same time is because Felix Wong portrayed both characters for TVB during the 1980s.

As I thought about that point, however, it dawned on me that they shared a number of characteristics in common:

1). Both were regarded as slow learners/slightly stupid during their youths, but nevertheless emerged as among the most powerful martial artists of their times.

2). Both became prince consorts of foreign (e.g. non-Han) regimes.

3). Both learned Hong Lung 28/18 Palms from a Beggar's Union Chief, but neither one was a Union Chief himself or even a member of the Union.

4). Both of them suffered watching their mothers commit suicide in their presences (Cheung Mo Gei suffered this fate as well).

Both are started off as humble, self-depracating young men who were obedient and respectful to others, often to the point of being bullied and pushed around.. though this may fit the profile of several other JY wuxia heroes too.

Xiao Feng was an ex-chief of Beggars Union when he & Xuzhu refined HL28Z

xuzhu is more lucky, he didn't really trained hard to get his martial arts.. almost all given for "free" by few experts..

so i like guo jing more than xuzhu.
