Default WY's idea for 2nd Mt. Hua Sword Tournament a retread?

Wong Yung's idea for Gwok Jing to fight as a proxy against East Heretic Wong Yerk See and North Beggar Hung 7 Gung in turn so that the two Greats would not need to risk injuring each other was praised as another brilliant idea, but was the idea a retread? It dawned on me that Wong Yung's idea was just a slight modification of the plan that Wong Yerk See had earlier in LOCH when he had Hung 7 Gung fight Au Yeung Hak and Gwok Jing fight West Poison Au Yeung Fung as proxies during the first of the betrothal contests on Peach Blossom Island. Wong Yung was just recycling her dad's idea with a slight modification.

The Peach Blossom fight wasn't really a proxy thing, I think, but just to see who could last longer against a really tough opponent who would go all out to beat, but not seriously injure them. It would also make the fight much faster, although if Guo Jing had fought Ouyang Ke the fight may not have lasted too long either.

I thought the Peach Blossom Island period was when Gwok Jing and Au Yeung Hak were the closest to being on par in martial arts as they ever would be. Before Peach Blossom Island, the advantage belonged to Au Yeung Hak, and after Peach Blossom Island, the advantage would swing decisively to Gwok Jing.

Guo Jing was already quite a bit better than Ouyang Ke by this time. Ouyang Ke tried to sneak attack him, and Guo Jing countered with both hands delivering Dragon Palms. OYK managed to dissipate some of the energy by jumping away (inthe same way that GJ would later dissipate the energy of his palm clash against the Golden Wheel Monk), but one of his ribs was broken anyway. If he'd taken the palm standing, he probably wouldn't have been fit to take the 3 tests.

In ROCH, Hung 7 Gung and Au Yeung Fung might have used a retread of a retread when they taught their weapons skills to Yeung Gor so that he, by proxy, could resolve which of their skills was better. Yeung Gor didn't *fight* anyone per se on Mt. Hua (other than the Tibetan Five Uglies (but that's beside the point), but in a sense, he helped Hung 7 Gung and Au Yeung Fung to fight (an unofficial) third Mt. Hua Sword Tournament by proxy.

If you want to argue that, you could point to the grand daddy of all proxy duels in the Eagle trilogy, that between Qiu Chuiji and the Jiangnan Freaks.

True! Characters from LOCH and ROCH seem to favor proxy duels.
