Default Obi-Wan Kenobi - the "Yau Chui Gei" of STAR WARS?

Upon examination, the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi of STAR WARS fame bears certain similarities to Cheun Jen Sect Taoist master Yau Chui Gei from Jin Yong's CONDOR HEROES TRILOGY.

    Consider these points:

    1. Both were highly esteemed warriors/philosophers of their respective sects.

    2. Both trained disciples who "turned to the Dark Side."

    3. Both were known for being somewhat rash and hotheaded during their youths, but grew more enlightened as they aged.

    4. Both were catalysts whose activities kicked off a series of epic adventures.

    5. Both became known as "immortals" (Obi-Wan as a "Force ghost" after Darth Vader destroyed his body, and the "Eternal Springs" Taoist by his reputation).

One major difference was that OWK was ready to destroy his traitorous student, however when one of YCG student became a rapist he excused him.

Cheun Jen Sect seems to get worst with each generation.

1st generation produced geniuses like Central Divinity and Old Urchin.

2nd generation had 7 mediocre fighters.

3rd generation had 2 racial traitors and a rapist.

I guess its lucky we never knew what happened to the 4th generation.

I was thinking more about Yeung Hong than Yan Tze Bing, but Yau Chui Gei was prepared to destroy Yeung Hong...he just never got around to actually doing it (for one reason or another). If he had a minute alone with Yeung Hong in a room (after learning that Yeung was a traitor), Yau Chui Gei would likely have beheaded him.

The Jedi too seemed to be in decline by the time of the Prequel movies. Apparently, according to Yoda, the Dark Side had clouded their vision and made them unable to see through Darth Sidious' plans.

The Jedi during the prequels were actually the strongest according to GL. It was supposed to be a "Golden Age" until Sidious appeared and had so much power that he could cloud the Force throughout the galaxy.

Don't put too much credit into the "extended universe" especially since it looks like that's all getting jettisoned.

To be fair, if I recall correctly, Yin Zhiping/Zhen Zhibing died shortly after he was exposed as a rapist, so Qiu Chuji didn't really get a chance to take action against him, especially since they were dealing with more pressing issues (i.e., attack by the Mongolian mercenaries) at that time.

True but in the aftermath of the attack QCJ said that although YZP/ZZB was wrong in the small virtue he was right in big virtue, thus implying he had forgiven the crime of rape due to his contribution to the sect.

Check it out: they even hold their swords similarly.

LOL, Qiu Chuji doesn't know how to hold a sword properly . You're supposed to hold the grip so that it goes 45 degrees across your palm, not straight across like a hammer. Think about how you would stab someone with it in that position - you'd have to bend your wrist all the way down. That would weaken it since the sword is not in line with the arm, plus you'd be in danger of spraining your wrist on impact.

I've no idea what's right for a light sabre obviously. Since they seem to hack at each other all the time, maybe the hammer grip is fine.
