    Default Requesting translation requests

I'm starting to consider what will be my next translation project and would like some help. I've already received some requests through private message but would like to publicly request suggestions. First let me lay out a few requirements and explanations.

I'm not a native Chinese speaker. Believe it or not, one of the main reasons I started studying Chinese was because of wuxia, so I take the translation very seriously. I've finally reached a level where I feel that I can (with the consultation help of a native speaker and a dictionary) accurately and confidently translate Chinese to English.

I'm only interested in translating things that HAVE NOT been translated before.

I will consider translations that have been started, but not completed, but only if there has been minimal work done (For example Heroes Shed No Tears). However, no matter which translation, I will start from the beginning myself, so I wouldn't consider something that has already had a significant amount of translation done.

I started with Gu Long because in general his Chinese is relatively simple. Jin Yong is much more literary and classical, and therefore harder to translate. I would really prefer to stick with Gu Long at the moment, but I would consider translating something more technically difficult if it were a shorter work.

I'm generally not interested in time-travel stories, contemporary settings, or high-fantasy stories about Taoist magic and whatnot. (I mean as far as translating, not general interest.)

Having said all this, I'm relatively open to suggestions.

    Summary:

I'd like to find a previously untranslated Gu Long (or other author) classic/typical wuxia novel (that is neither too complex nor too long).

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

I was poking around and it seems there's a story called The Blood Parrot by Gu Long that has a total of three or four chapters translated of about 30 or so. This is exactly something i might consider...

I haven't had the chance to read your work, but since you ask ... How about Chu Luxiang series? It's Gu Long's, and each book is relatively short, yet if you have the time to complete the entire series, it will be an invaluable addition to our library.

Thanks! I'll check it out. I will definitely take seriously the suggestions of a fellow translator. =D

    Only summaries so far.

And my vote would still go to Kung Fu by Giddens Ko

If it has to be Gu Long: The Eleventh Son II: Factional Feuds. I loved the First Translationen by Becky Tsai and would be very Interessen in Part 2.

Deathblade, as I mention on the other post before, can you consider Righteous Blood Cleansing Silver Spear by Gulong as well.

Its only few chapter more missing before its conclusion and it will be great if you could takes this book too.

Make it 2 votes for Kung Fu by Giddens Ko. That really needs to be done.

Wulin Waishi featuring Shen Lang would be awesome, but if I remember correctly, there's been quite a bit done so it probably wouldn't fit your criteria.

Edit: It is up to chapter 15. It started 11 years ago...how time flies !

Yeah... I know there's a lot of demand for this. One of my big concerns is that from what I understand, there's a lot of references to other wuxia works and history, and I'm nervous that I might not be able to do a good enough job. I'll definitely check it out though.

Only in the beginning AFAIK. Jin Yong and Gu Long novels were mentioned. And "Zu Warriors" are stupid :-D

And I do think that here are a lot of Wuxia enthusiasts that could point out anything that could be a reference.

Perhaps you could consider Blood and Steel? It's a novel by Qiao Jingfu, set in the Ming Dynasty.

The novel has been adapted into a popular Hong Kong comic called 武道狂之詩. Some of the comic has been translated into English, but naturally, as the original material, the novel would be the best version

So far, the novel has never been translated in English. You would be VERY surprised when you learn who the antagonists are

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I've pretty much decided which translation to do next. Heroes Shed No Tears is about to wrap up, so I should start posting the new translation soon!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Even if my next pick isn't one of the suggestion you posted here, I will definitely be coming back to this thread for future translations after the next one.
