I was initially OK with it but then i just realised from the trailer that they have rolled to historical characters into one! LSS's character will be a combination of the lady doctor with Zhu QiYu's 2nd empress! Now it just feels weird since Tan YunXian is such a respected character and well, Empress Hang is ... not.

It would be great if you could enlighten me regarding why Empress Hang isn't respected, because when I was reading about the Ming Dynasty a few years earlier, I didn't think Empress Hang was a figure that warranted much hate from people - in fact, she earned my pity, seeing as how she lost her young son, wasn't treated as well as the other consorts and had her tomb wrecked by Zhu Qizhen.

I have nothing against Empress Hang. But she is not respected due to her own doing but more of her husband's and how people compare her to Empress Wang. Empress Wang stood up for Zhu Qizhen's son when no one else would because it was the honourable thing to do. She saw that it was wrong to mistreat the son of the previous Emperor whose mum had cried herself blind yet even worse, depose him of his position as the Crown Prince when Zhu QiYu ascended the throne promising to not take that away from his nephew. She saw that it was not only morally wrong, but would also enrage the people against her husband's whose popularity was on shaky ground with the common people. People were suspicious of Zhu QiYu's claim to the throne but did not voice opposition until Zhu Qiyu replaced the Crown Prince with his own son by Lady Hang.

But Zhi QiYu deposed of her and confined her in the Cold Palace, and made Lady Hang his Empress instead. Empress Hang was not accepted by the Ming royal family as a true empress even though Zhi Qiyu gave her the title. It was Zhu Qizhen's way of repaying Empress Wang for her support when he was down and acknowledging her as the only first wife of Prince Cheng (Zhu Qiyu after being deposed). It was also a political point he was trying to make that he was the one and only true Mandate of Heaven.

I have nothing against Empress Hang personally, which I only see as a background character who is probably helpless in her own fate. I am fine with Tan YunXian and Empress Hang being two different characters but when they get rolled into one, then I get . Tan YunXian is a strong woman with principles and integrity. First of all, would she really not speak up for Zhu Qizhen's son when he is supposed to be her friend in the series? Secondly, would a person of her integrity accept the role of Empress knowingly that it was taken away from a good woman who was trying to do the right thing?

The actions of LSS's TYX in the trailer is contradictive. Its like the screenwriter just used the name of the famous female doctor then just butchered her life story by making her stuck between the two Emperors and just totally ignored her husband in real-life. And if the screenwriter makes TYX the damsel-in-distress by making the righteous Empress Wang a bad woman, then that's even worse! And to top it off, TXY is not even an adult (cos she served under Zhu JianShen's reign right?) at the time of the Tumu Fortress Saga!

It like how they made the legendary Huang DaoPo annoying in that Weaver Girl series. It is OK like BBJX when they managed to develop the historical characters with some fiction whilst following the real chain of events. But TangRen should have just left Tan Yunxian alone and made up a fictitious character for them to write about! I just hate it when TV series mess with history!

Ah, okay. Thank you for briefing me with the big picture.
It makes sense for the writer to roll two characters into one. When they first announced the series, I was confused as to how they were going to incorporate Yunxian into the drama considering she was only a toddler when Zhu Qizhen died.
I have a feeling Tan Yunxian is going to turn out as a Mary Sue again (like you said, it wouldn't make sense for her to accept the position of Empress if the drama plays out similar to history).

I'll probably just watch for the pretty - I don't have high hopes for the story, considering the fact that Zhang Wei is the person who wrote Female Prime Minister. Don't even get me started on that drama (and no, Chen Xiao doesn't make up for it).

Darnit. The official MV totally spoiled it for me. How could Qi Yu have hit her?? I initially didn't care that she preferred him over Qi Zhen, but now I totally hate Qi Yu. Like what Qi Zhen said, he's spineless for marrying someone else despite professing to love Yun Xian, and for being threatened by his own brother. Gah! I hope Qi Zhen gets back his throne and the girl. But darnit, Yun Xian did end up marrying Qi Yu and getting hit by him??
