Default Ode to Gallantry 《侠客行》 - Cai Yida, Zhang Jiani, Li Jingyang

And I thought ZJZ said after HSDS 2009, that he's done with Jin Yong's works? Or did I misread that?

I think it's pretty much official that Zhang Jizhong will start shooting this series very soon.

    Released info, so far:
-The story will stay faithful to the novel. There are 21 chapters in the novel so the series will be 30 episodes.
-Shooting locations includes Mt. Wudang and Lake Taichi.
    -Shooting will start in May.
-Casting has been settled but not announced yet. Last year, ZJZ mentioned that he will cast new faces and joked that he cannot afford popular actors for the series.
-ZJZ is planning to produce all Jin Yong novels' adaptation. This year, besides "Xia Ke Xing", he will also start shooting "The Book and The Sword" in October.

I'm very keen to know the director in charge for this series. I've been hoping he'd work again with Huang Jianzhong (XAJH 2001). But he never seem to work with him again since XAJH, did he not get along with him, I wonder? I really love how HJZ direct scenes. Yu Min's directing style (director of LoCH03 and most of ZJZ's productions) doesn't suit my taste, not to mention the horrible editing.

How were the other XKX's adaptations? I read that TVB/Tony Leung's version deviated quite a lot with characters' changes too. Does Xia Ke Xing novel is as funny as DoMD?

    Looking forward to this series!

dunno how accurate this baidu page is, but the page lists the lead as being Cai Yi Da (蔡宜达). Other stars listed are: Zhang Jia Ni (张嘉倪), Waise Lee (李子雄), Norman Tsui (徐少强), Canti Lau (刘锡明), Ma Ling (马羚).

I love the tony Leung version, I know it didn't follow the novel! But it was something on it;s own! I am looking forward to see this series actually! I like some of ZJZ work, I hope this will be his better ones too!

I actually didn't like the Tony version. I preferred the TW version w/ Max Mok and the 2002 mainland version. The Ding Dang from 2002 was quite annoying (not to mention when she breaks out into song and dance). And ugly costumes. But I did like the extension on the Shi Jian role.

I'm not familiar with the story. Who's the main love interest here? Ding Dang or A Xiu? How many women falls for the hero?

The 2 main girls would be Ding Dang and A Xiu. Defintintely prefer A Xiu over Ding Dang. But plenty of other girls fall for the hero and/or his twin, including Shi Jian I believe. Only 1-2 of the girls could tell the difference b/w the two brothers.

Thanks! Currently reading the novel now. So far, looks like this is gonna be as funny as DoMD. The lead, Gouzazhong (Shi Potian) is so dumb, innocent and very funny. I'm loving the character so far.

Cast has been officially announced today in the opening ceremony attended by Zhang Jizhong himself, the directors Zhong Shaoxiong and Zhao Jian, and the three leads.

Cai Yida as Shi Potian & Shi Zhongyu

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i3.sinaimg.cn/ent/v/m/2012-12-28/U1584P28T3D3823578F326DT20121228210852.jpg')

He has the looks of a rapist, but doesn't have the looks of an innocent... but we'll see...

Zhang Jiani as Ding Dang (Shi Zhongyu's lover)

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://www.ukan.cc/uploads/news/2013-07-02/51d22c3c32d71.jpg')

Li Jingyang as Bai A'xiu (Shi Potian's love interest)

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://www.bamuyu.com/uploads/allimg/130409/181-1304091Q615b6.jpg')

I like her looks, suits the calm and gentle A'xiu.

    Other cast.
Canti Lau as Shi Qing (Shi Zongyu's father)
He Jiayi as Min Rou (Shi Zongyu's mother)
    Norman Chui as Xie Yanke
    Waise Lee as Bei Haishi
Ricky Chan as Bai Wanjian (A'xiu's father)
    Gao Hu
    Ma Ling

Appearance-wise, the veterans all look great and suitable for the characters.

I personally wish they'd cast Sun Haiying (Hong Qigong in LoCH2003) as Ding Dang's grandfather.

ZJZ also announced he will make a 'full house' of Jin Yong's all 14 novels within 3 years. Wow, so all these by 2018?
    -Ode to Gallantry
    -The Book and the Sword
    -Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain
-Other Tales of the Flying Fox
-Swordswoman Riding West on White Horse
    -Blade-dance of the Two Lovers
-Linked Cities / A Deadly Secret

I wonder how'd that turn out...

I didn't know it was based on any novel back when, i like it as it's own. could also be that I had a crush on tony leung back in the days keke. I've seen the Max Mok one long time ago! I can't remember it much. Seen a little of the 2002 version, I just couldn't finish it, It didn't catch my attention. I am looking forward to this version, I have no idea who all these actors are , but they look good so far.

Me too. Just Ep1 and glimpses of Ep2. The 2002 version totally have no appeal. The acting are mediocre too. Though the lead seem to fit the role, Shi Potian... but gosh, his hair and costume are so ugly.

I'd really like to see Tony Leung and Max Mok's versions. Any streaming link?

    Interesting Facts:

-Zhang Jizhong decided to go with new faces because he said he can't afford to cast big names such as Huang Xiaoming and Deng Chao anymore, though they were affordable back when he casted them as Yang Guo / Zhang Wuji. Most of wuxia productions would spend half of budget to pay the actors (to get ratings), ZJZ thinks that it's ridiculous, he prefer cast affordable new faces and spend the rest of the budget for other props. He doesn't care about ratings, he just want to make an adaptation that does justice to the novel.

-Zhang Jizhong had been going back and forth to Hongkong, July last year, to have discussions with Jin Yong himself about the details in "Xia Ke Xing" novel. The script had been modified 5 times based on his discussions with Jin Yong.

thanks for the Facts my friend! I am glad they are going for fresh faces! I like his Smiling proud wonder and LOCH 03, I was not familiar with the actors back then, and I thought they did a fantastic job. Honestly Li Ya Peng is not the hottest but I thought he brought both Leading male character to justice!

The Tony Leung version for me was pretty neat! Haha I thought he was so funny, all his women were pretty annoying except for the Leader of the Poison sect. She at least was the most useful out of all his love interest. I did enjoy youthful Sharen Tang and Tony together! This made up for HSDS . I don't have any streaming site for Canto or Mando version. Sorry friend.

The max Mok one is going to be hard to find.

ITA. I like to be surprised by these newbies. I didn't know anything about them the first time I saw Xiao Ao Jiang Hu / Laughing in the Wind / Smiling Proud 2001, but Li Yapeng and Xu Qing's performances blew my mind. I also like the fact how Zhang Jizhong's JY adaptations were what shot these newbies to stardom. XAJH01 and LoCH03 were definitely ones of the best from Zhang Jizhong. DGSD03 and RoCH06 had great cast, but the Hollywood BGMs and horrible editing really ruined it for me. I love Sword Stained Royal Blood 2007, Royal Tramp 2008 and HSDS09 though.

Btw, help. This is an article about the press conference yesterday, ZJZ with the cast and crews.

Seems like Zhang Jizhong criticized Yu Zheng's Swordsman 2013, just wondering what he actually says about that adaptation. I can get the gist from online translator, but I want to know the precise translation of what he says XD

I remember the male lead. That photo is taken from Chu-Han contention. He asked a small role on a cousin of XiangYu. An irritating character who indirectly contributed to Xiang Yu's downfall.

Without the moustache maybe he may look good as the Shi brothers.

Btw, help. This is an article about the press conference yesterday, ZJZ with the cast and crews.
    http://culture.people.com.cn/n/2014/...-24959177.html

Seems like Zhang Jizhong criticized Yu Zheng's Swordsman 2013, just wondering what he actually says about that adaptation. I can get the gist from online translator, but I want to know the precise translation of what he says XD
You're good!! I might watch the Max MOk one since I can't remember much, When Exams are over lol

I know their hair looks messy, but it adds the reality and naturality cause wandering in the jianghu world, there's no way one can keep their hair neat and well-combed Tbh, I love the degree of the hair mess in ZJZ productions, not too much. For me, best hairstyle is XAJH2001's Linghu Chong, I think he changed hairstyle about 3-4 times thruout the 40 eps, and I love them all, for me, his hairstyle look very manly and really made me swoon. Plus the hair style did wonder too, cause imho, Li Yapeng looks much more handsome in XAJH2001 than he is in real life And it amazed me how it didn't look like a wig at all, it looks perfectly and naturally attached to LYP's head haha.

Yuan Chengzi's hair in the first half SSWRB2007 and Zhang Wuji's hair in HSDS09 does look weird, I have to admit.

I see that the baidu page has been updated, even more cast members are now listed along with their roles. However, I don't seem to see Shi Jian's character on the list yet (will they remove her character out of the drama?)
    Currently watching:
K-dramas Resurrection/Rebirth, Wedding, Farewell to Tears, Rosy Life, Immortal Yi Soon Shin
    C-drama Fairytale of Twin Swords

There are still Shi-popo, Potian's mom, etc etc still unlisted, I'm sure Shi Jian and the rest will come out later, soon or after the shooting started.

Interesting to know Bai Zizai (Chief of the Snowy Mountain sect) will be acted by Kent Tong Chun-yip (one of the Golden 80s TVB's Five Tigers). I see a lot of Hongkong actors listed in the cast, that's unusual for a ZJZ production.

Zhang JiZhong always like to cast himself in a guest or minor supporting role in his drama. I wonder Mr Big Beard will cast himself as who this time in Xia Ke Xing...?

And here I thought the torch had been passed to Yu Zheng and Lai Shuiqing.

It's going to be interesting to see how these newer productions compare to some of his older stuff, and also how they stack up against the recent series produced and directed by the two aforementioned contemporaries of his.
