Great wulin warriors have come from many different backgrounds. Jin Yong heroes such as Kiu Fung, Gwok Jing, and Yeung Gor spent their youths in relative poverty, while many Gu Long heroes such as Lee Chum Foon, Tse Hiu Fung, and Sai Mun Chui Sheut came from wealthy families.
Overall, do you believe that coming from a wealthy background is an incentive/asset for learning and mastering high-level martial arts, or are wealth and privilege actually disincentives/hindrances to mastering such martial arts? In the Jin Yong universe, it seems to be a hindrance/disincentive, as wealthy princes such as Yeung Hong and Deun Yu had no incentive to master high-level martial arts and often spurned hard martial arts training and practice (while the impoverished heroes worked hard on their craft at least partly to lift themselves out from poverty). In the Gu Long universe, though, it seems that men such as Lee Chum Foon, Tse Hiu Fung, and Sai Mun Chui Sheut largely were able to become elite martial arts masters because their wealth bought them the luxury of focusing on martial arts rather than working for a living.
