    Ep 17 Trailer:

    Translation:
Scene 1: Lan Ling Wang, Yuan Qing Suo
LLW: It is good to see you again.
YQS: (voiceover) His highness has finally returned for me. Yet I feel that the person he sees before him is not me.

Scene 2: Lan Ling Wang, Yuan Qing Suo
    Guards:" Who are you?
LLW: The Prince of Lan Ling, Gao Changgong.
Guards: Grab him. (and then they get bashed by LLW and Qing Suo gets injured in the shoulder and more guards are coming)
LLW: Quickly get back to Yuwen Yong's house.
YQS: No, I would rather die with your Highness.

Scene 3: Yuwen Hu, Yuwen Yong, Yuan Qing Suo
YQS: Thank You, Uncle, for not killing me.
YWH: OK. (puts pressure on YQS's injured shoulder, probably knowing that she was the one who helped LLW escape) Why are you in pain? Are you feeling ill?
YQS: No, I am fine. I am just feel bad for misunderstanding Uncle back in the Palace and do not know how to show my apologies.
YWH: I am going to get you back for that sooner or later.
YQS: I know what I did was wrong.
YWH: Wrong? What wrong did you commit.
YQS: I ... I ... should not have wrongly accused Uncle of poisoning the Royal Banquet.
YWH: Fourth Brother (talking to YWY), the recent days have been insecure, with lots of assassins running around. You better take better care of Qing Suo lest she be paranoid.
YWY: I am grateful for your protection, Brother. I will take Qing Suo to your residence on another day to offer our thanks.

Scene 4: Yuwen Yong, Yuan Qing Suo
YQS: The Emperor once said to me, that as time goes by, I will slowly discover your gentle side. It is a pity that ... (probably cos she is leaving with LLW )
YWY: Gentle side? What a joke. To show gentleness to an unfeeling woman like you is like playing qin for a cow. Besides, I have plenty of women by my side (yeah right!) I really don't know what Gao Changgong sees in you, to be willing to face dangers alone for you.
    (super awkward silence)
YQS: So, are you going back on your word? (cos YWY promised to let her leave after the peace treaty was signed)
YWY: (grabs her hand) If I said I am going back on my word, will you stay?

Hey yannlc, can you spoil me from the novel:

    click to show/hide spoilers
Does Yuwen Yong marry Yan Wan in the novel? People are telling me that he does. And what with that Green Dragon guy proposing to Qing Suo in the long trailer?

BTW, just watched ep 15. Qing Suo needs to stop biting Yuwen Yong. She has bitten him like 4 times already since ep 1.

Hi, I'm glad to see several posts about this series; hopefully, there'll be many more comments. I'm addicted to it too and watching every episode daily (well, Tues to Fri) as it is released. 'Yannlc', you mentioned that there's a 2nd revision to the novel, can you give me the internet link to it? I keep hearing rumors that there are 4 novels instead of 2, and the ending mentioned about YQS trying to get back to YWY is not the actual ending.

However, I have to say that LLW and YQS also make a sweet couple (according to the series). In the novel, I don't understand their love/attraction for each other, but the series made it more understandable since they were childhood sweethearts.

Regardless, I'm also on the Yu Wen Yong and Yuan Qing Suo ship (based on reading the novel and the series). It is my first time seeing Peng Guan Ying, but I really like his acting so I went and watched him in 'Because Love Is a Miracle'. It's a long series, but I just skip over parts without the main couple.

Anyway, I'd like to share some video clips that I made from the series for fans of this series.

Oh, and thanks to 'charbydis' for translating the trailer for episode 17.

No, she is the evil girl in the series that likes YWY, the one that tried to hurt YQS a few times. What I remember about her is that her appearance caused YQS to suddenly hug YWY, fed him food, another time YQS bit his hand when this Yan Wan girl showed up.

Dang...so.......... I was looking through a few episodes and the plot is extremely typical...it's very predictable, and the acting was super duper cheesy. But the PLUS is that they got good looking casts, but it's a MINUS again that there are lots of wrong styling.
Just because Yan Wan is the baddie, she doesn't really need two annoying hair with cute clips on the front, ahhaha... that was some dumbest hair ever. At least it was not on the main actress...hahaha, jeez! The main actress does look Korean because she was styled exactly like a true and noble Korean princess. No, I don't like the bright colors, especially the purple ninja! jk, she's not a ninja, but covers her face in such bright color, wow so funnie!

It's not really that bad so far, I quite like it too, especially YWY (it's always YWY, YWY last time from Lanlin Wang and now here too...sigh...) BUT...no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no YWY cannot marry that YQS, I want to puke too...it better be a good reason! I'm preparing not to like anybody too much right now.

I guess for a role that is a total-nonsense and nothing serious like YQS, it is really hard to play. Esp. if the actress is not cute, so they really did got the right person to play it this time bc she's cute and acting was not over reacted. She did so great, but I still need to complain so much... because, I get uncomfortable with her romantic scenes.... FOR, she resembles so much of a kid! (with extra small mouth too) So sometimes it's almost like seeing an under age being molested. But isn't that she is still taller than Ariel Lin though? So I think it must be the problem of the role, her role is really nothing but a no-brainer for the two men to romance with, so being so kiddish is just errmm...

I watched the trailers and the MVs and I have a suspicion that the ending will be SQ gets killed by Lan ling wang's fiancé. Then he'll drink the poison that his cousin king gave him and they'll unite in the afterlife of some sort. That's where you'll see the scene of SQ in the red robe meeting LLW.

All the release previews seemed to indicate this.

Well...I am all for LOVE BITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think there's another drama (Zhang Wu Ji??) that the lead actress explains she keeps biting the lead male because she wants him to remember her...now Yong need only see his scars and recall Shuo's love bites! I actually love how comfortable she is with him!

Rumours are that Lan Ling Wang will now head out to Zhou to collect Qing Suo and have lots of happy times in Qi. And then Yuwen Yong will not appear again until Lan Ling Wang's crazy mum sets her up to be killed.

There will be lots of angst and heartbreaks to come.
    click to show/hide spoilers
Someone showed me scenes of Yuwen Yong getting stabbed by Yuwen Hu who was holding Yuan Qing Suo hostage and then thinking he was going to die, Yuan Qing Suo was trying to stab herself to be with him.

After watching the long trailer and then ep 14 again and also from visiting the fan forums, a scene is missing from after Yuwen Yong and Qing Suo climbs out from the pool. The production team have confirmed it on Weibo, claiming that the scene was filmed on two different days but someone forgot to spray the leads with water. So the last bit of the scene where Yuwen Yong scoops up Qing Suo in his arms and meets Yan Wan was cut in order to make it flow. Which is why in the next scene, Yan Wan makes a comment about Qing Suo learning to swim on a cold day, because that was probably the story Yuwen Yong had come up with.
Wait! Which fan forums are you on? Are there more pictures there? You have to share too! regarding that pool scene, there's more to that in the novel but they left it out.

sure...give me some time to post those pics you want. i cant seem to scroll through all the weibo posts on my desktop ... i think we both need those pictures when the angst approaches.. ...however, am curious you asked for pics rather than a short summary of those scenes from the book

does anyone know if is it true this show isnt broadcast on TV but only on the internet and only on mango tv internet? And you have to be a premium subscriber to watch this show on mango tv? if its true, then its amazing that viewership surpassed 2 billion right?

Previously I lamented that there's hardly anyone on this thread and I was talking to myself so I am very happy to see new commentators! But please do remember to use spoiler tags. Its more fun that way, especially when the spoiler tags contain pictures of Yong. It's like xmas came early! So if you are on your mobile, you just need to add the spoiler tags like this --> add your comments between the 2 spoiler tags [ SPOILER ] [ /SPOILER ]

I didn’t expect so many comments so rather than copy and reply individually, I am adding my comments and thoughts here and hopefully they addressed charbydis, hkstars and stylchick 's questions...

    the internet novel

As mentioned previously, there were 2 novels “蘭陵皇妃" and “蘭陵王妃" names written by 2 different authors. But some links have credited “蘭陵王妃" as written by 杨千紫 and sometimes the links contain the story of “蘭陵皇妃" and sometimes “蘭陵王妃" and sometimes nothing but porn pictures that unfortunately do not involve Yong. The endings for both novels are different.

It appears that “蘭陵皇妃" as written by 杨千紫 first's edition novel ends
    click to show/hide spoilers
with a cliff scene where Shuo kinda gives her declaration to Yong

Thereafter, the internet novel continues and ends with that spoiler I first gave MysticDust in post #50.

I later read comments to an addition to the ending which charbydis confirmed in post #62

This ending can apparently be found only in the revised book edition. Unfortunately I have not been able to source this book edition online.

Yan Wan in the Internet Novel
    Expanding on hkstars comment
    click to show/hide spoilers
IIRC This was right after that scene where Shuo ended up in the pond/ lake. She was actually very ill and Yong had not left her bedside at all while she was sick. Because of Yuwen Hu's insistence, Yong went to Hu's house to pick up Yan Wan and brought her back to his residence. There was no official marriage ceremony like Yong's and Shuo. In the book, it was implied that Yong was not interested in bringing Yan Wan back but Hu had insisted strongly. She would later on become the terror in Yong's harem killing off concubines she did not like. She later tried to assassinate Shuo too. Her storyline continues with other characters in the book commenting on her. She actually does not make any appearance after a banquet scene in Yuwen Hu's house.

諸葛無雪 aka Green Dragon Guy in the Internet Novel
    click to show/hide spoilers
He said to be a descendant of 諸葛亮 (Zhu Ge Liang) and he rules this “land” that borders Zhou and Qi. their story briefly - he thought Shuo was a guy and fell in love with him. But later when he finds out Shuo is actually a girl, he still loves her. He dies protecting her.

Previously I said the novel's pretty good cos it was easy to read, tends to flow well with most points wrapped. However, the characters did not have much depth. This is quite different from the screenplay where we see that the characters have much more depth and there's more backstory. Certain events have been added which I believe creates more interest in the show. However, certain events have been omitted which I feel should have been added cos its too good!

The Romance in the Internet Novel vs Drama
    click to show/hide spoilers
In the novel, Duan Mu Ling in the present seems to have a fascination on LLW. Then she gets transported back in time where she becomes Qingshuo and is married to Yuwen Yong. She encounters LLW and her fascination appears to develop into a crush. There is a scene which looks like the drama would incorporate which makes Shuo realise that all along, LLW has not responded to her affection / declaration. It was always her who made the first move. This lead her to give up on LLW and her romance with Yong develops further.

Towards the end (and yah I suddenly went WTH!) Its explained that Luo Yan and LLW aren’t humans & LLW is under a spell that makes him love only Luo Yan. However, LLW seems to be able to have feelings for Shuo .

So in the novel, there was no backstory to the 3 leads. We do not have the 青梅竹马 ( ie childhood sweethearts) between LLW & QS as in the drama. Usually when there's a 青梅竹马storyline, the tendency is that this couple will end up together. However, Yong and Shuo had an event when they were younger too! That event impacted Yong so much it created a lifelong phobia! I would say that's a really big impact for a guy!

I would actually say that in the drama, the relationship is up for grabs cos both male leads had a childhood experience with her, both have a finance they are going to marry, both have their fair share of love scenes with her (LLW's ones are coming up) and both have their scenes where they both hurt Shuo...

btw, in the drama, we see Shuo calling Yong 'Fu Jun'. In the novel, Duan Mu Ling/ Shuo explains only the first wife is allowed to call the husband 'Fu Jun' so she does it to indicate that their relationship is that of a husband and wife. Totally love that Yong lets her mess around with him.

sorry for such a long post! i shall save my thoughts on the ost for another day!

The series's exclusive premiere rights have been bought by Mango who have chosen to only broadcast it on its paid website. Mango is the largest TV station in China so it is not difficult for it to have 2 billion subscribers. And you don't need to be a longterm subscriber, you can sign up on a monthly basis to catch shows you want to watch, which is probably why Mango initially wanted to stretch it out to 2 eps per week so it would cover more months, and then will gain more fees.

My main problem with the story is though it is entertaining, there are not that many super smart people. Most characters are pretty ordinary, silly or petty.

    (1) Yuwen Hu & Yuwen Yong are probably the smartest people in the whole series. Both seems to have a good idea of what is going on around them and can think several steps ahead. And seem to be pretty calm and level-headed people who can identify other people's weakness and manipulate them to his own use. Looking forward to them when they go head-on against each other.

    (2) Lan Ling Wang's mum seems like a clever lady who can accurately read the power struggles going on in Zhou and Qi. Why I put her in second place is that though it seems that she is one manipulating Yuwen Hu, Yuwen Hu actually knows that she is up to something and waiting for her to reveal herself.

    (3) Yuwen Yu is clever as well, but too merciful and kind to use his cleverness for his own gain.

I don't seem to find Lan Ling Wang clever at all though he is a good warrior with leadership qualities. His actions are predictable by his honourable nature and he is heavily manipulated by his mum to do many things he is not aware of.

Yuan Qing Suo is just a silly girl who believes people easily. She is not stupid but sometimes what she tends to tunnel vision her focus on certain things without looking at the bigger picture,. But from the long trailer, we can see that she may be childish now, she does grow to be a more mature and responsible woman.

Yan Wan is smart but she has self-control issues where she lets her own emotions and pettiness get in the way of the bigger goal. All she wants is a guy and she does not seem to care for anything else though she serves different masters.

The three guardians are not smart people. The Green Dragon guy does show some intelligence but let see what else he has to offer.

btw, in the drama, we see Shuo calling Yong 'Fu Jun'.

Thank you for this thorough explanation. Btw, I love the OST. Probably one of the best I've heard in a while that is appropriate for the drama.

I'm still confused by these wuxia people in the series right now. It does not help that I can only read elementary vietnamese since there are no english subs! Can someone explain their roles for me please?

I think SQ's naivity is what attracts YWY and LLW to love and protect her. They are surrounded by people that manipulates others for power so her innocence is probably refreshing.

@charbydis Can you post more info about what the netizen are saying about Kristy Zhang and Peng Guanying. I'm shipping these 2 hard. :-D

    Huggies!

Scene 1: Yuwen Yong, Yuan Qing Suo
YWY: I am not a man who can tolerate loss. If I ever meet you again, I will use all means to make you stay by my side. For the rest of your life, don't even dream of leaving me again.

Scene 2: Yuwen Yong, Yuan Qing Suo
YWY: Remember that you once belonged to me. If Gao Changong dares to treat you badly, you must tell me. Whatever happens, I will take you back. (YQS nods)(YWY laughs) But you would probably not want me to take you back as my second wife.
YQS: Yuwen Yong, I ... I don't detest you and don't deliberately set out to go against you. I know deep in my heart that you are good to me. And I also ...
YWY: Enough. Save your nice words for him. Go quickly. (turns to leave)
YQS: Yuwen Yong! (dismounts from horse and runds to hug him, nearly whacking him in the throat with her hat. YWY hugs her back.

Scene 3: Yuwen Yong, Yuan Qing Suo and the Party Pooper Fairy (Miao Wu Yin)
YWY: I can go with you, but as for Qing Suo, she has her own things to attend to. She will not go away with you.
MWY: Da Sikong, I guess you still have not realised what the outcome of getting in my way us.
YWY: I guess Miss, you have not yet realised what the outcome of harming the most important person to me is.
MWY: (seeing YWY grab YQS's hand) Seems like you won't let go even in the face of death. I want to see how important Yuan Qing Suo is to you.
YWY: At least much more important than the Soul Suppressing Pearl.
MWY: Looks like you won't hand over Yuan Qing Suo.
YWY: Not unless you kill me first (or over my dead body). Or else, don't even dream of harming a hair on her body,
    YQS: Yuwen Yong!
    YWY: Miao Wuyin! Come on!
YQS: (talking to party pooper fairy) The one you want to kill is me. Leave the innocents out of this. Take me!
    YWY: Qing Suo!
MWY: No need to argue! You both need to die!

Scene 4: Yuwen Yong, Yuan Qing Suo, Yan Wan and the Part Pooper Fairy Lan Ling Wang's mum is somewhere in the background
LLW's mum shoots dart at YWY, but ends up grazing YQS, who trips backwards and YW reaches out to grab her hand.
    YWY: Qing Suo!
YW: (after seeing some marks on YQS's shoulder) (voiceover) So these are the marks that the Green Dragon Guardian was looking for. Why would he know of the scald marks on her shoulder? Why does everyone think so much of Yuan Qing Suo?
YQS: Yan Wan! (as YW lets go! )
    YW: Sister Qing Suo!
YWY: Qing Suo! Qing Suo! (bellyflops into water)
YW: Ah Yong! Ah Yong! (and blah blah blah blah)

I am confused as well. But from what I know:
    click to show/hide spoilers
The tomb of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang was designed by an alchemist named Chen Ji to house three magical items (produced by Chen Ji) that hold the key to uniting and conquering China. Chen Ji is actually Duanmu Ji, who descends of the Duanmu Clan who is known for their skill at designing traps, but he hid his surname lest Emperor Qin Shi Huang kill his entire clan if something went wrong. Sure enough, once the underground tomb was completed, all the people involved. including Chen Ji died.

Chen Ji's sister, Duanmu Yizhu stole the Soul Supressing Pearl and disappeared. The Emperor Qin Shi Huang was furious and sent his four guardians after Duanmu Yizhu but they could not find her. Emperor Qin Shi Huang was furious and after branding them, made them vow to forever guard over the underground tomb for ongoing generations.

The four are: (some superstitious constellation positions that I am not familiar with)
    - Green Dragon - Zhuge Wuxue who loves Yuan Qing Suo
    - White Tiger - Miao Wuyin (the "fairy" with the music instrument)
    - Crimson Bird - Xiang Wuchen (the taoist guy who is Yan Wan's teacher)
    - Black Turtle - probabaly Lan LinG Wang's mum

Lan Ling Wang is drawn to Qing Suo mainly because she reminds him of his first love. But he does feel some responsibility towards her at the moment because she places so much trust in him and has braved many dangers just for him. I believe he will learn to grow feelings for Qing Suo that are separate from his feelings for Duanmu Lian.

Yuwen Yong is drawn to Qing Suo because she is a refreshing breath of fresh air in contrast to the suffocating political mess that he was born into. All his life, he is surround by women who either want to use him for his wealth and status, or for his good looks. But Yuan Qing Suo is interested in none of those. And when she treats him well, it is for who he is and not what he is or will become. I think he appreciates her sincerity and honesty even though she does cause a lot of trouble for him and she reminds him of the bright side of life that has been hidden by all the clouds of conspiracies and hypocrisy around him.
