I've watched the first 2 episodes, and I'm LOVING it!! It reminds me a lot to the old TVB wuxia dramas. The fighting scenes are well done, minimal CGI, and there are quite a number of fighting scenes. Will definitely follow this drama too!

Ok. Will give it a go. I watched two previous versions and hated both of them. So I hope this version be better. Yan Yi Kuan seldom disappoints me.

Are they the versions with Nicky Wu and Felix Wong, respectively? Can you tell me what you hated about those? I'm curious as I never watched the old adaptations, am not familiar with the story, and I don't speak Mandarin to top it off .

The only version of this I saw was the 2002 TVB one with Felix. It was pretty terrible. As for this, judging by the first episode, I'm liking it so far. I especially love the opening song. It gives off that Wuxia feels. I think I'm gonna be following this on weekly basis. It's so different from that overly serious TVB one. This version actually come off as fun. Let's see where it goes.

The cast is pretty good too I might add.

Even though I love Felix Wong, I thought he was too old and too honourable to be Xiao 11. Gu Long's heroes are very carefree and flawed, and I don't think Felix brought that out. I think out of the whole cast, only Felix and Maggie had chemistry and they weren't even a couple. Anne was acting on another frequency as the others. I loved that Hugo was back as the villain but the story did not do its cast justice. I think TVB's version stuck well with the novel initially in actually keeping Shen Bi Jun and Lian Cheng Bi married to start off with, better than Nicky Wu's version, and then the story went wacko in the second half and ruined it.

I thought Nicky Wu's version was too deviated from the novel and there was way too much magic/fantasy for a wuxia novel. I like Nicky Wu but i think I ended up rooting for Lian Cheng Bi.

I haven't watched this version yet. I need a break from TV and plan to move house. Tell me how it goes. I have watched the trailer and I like Lian Cheng Bi already (which is weird).

I really don't know the story of Xiao 11. I've seen the Felix version and some snippets from Nicky's version as well

I thought Felix was very mature for that role. The guy that played as his younger brother had the face that automatically make me hate him
I thought Mimi Lo was excellent as mini master. Sorry, I don't know the correct term to describe it
Anne Heung was never pretty in my eyes and she got so many roles as a beauty, yikes!

Anyway, Nicky's version was so weird! What's up with the sheer/fishnet sleeves?

The lady that play as lady 4 (his friend), is she Chinese or Korean? She's pretty but her chin/jaw area looked swollen from time to time. These 2 has too much fun together
I thought the guy that played Lian Cheng Bi is so off. That ridiculous bang has to go. His face is small, so the bang practically cover most of his face
I'm not impressed with the actress playing as mini master in this version yet, maybe Mimi Lo did such an amazing job already?

Shen Bi Jun is an actual beauty in here.

And same with Shen Bi Jun, she loved Xiao 11 yet her "love" and duty towards her husband put her in a dilemma. Both were very honourable people who met each other too late in life yet it did not stop them from protecting each other's life and reputation.

Strangely, I have always liked Lian Cheng Bi though he was not such a nice character. He was an opportunist and ambitious guy for sure, but he does love his wife and his gradual descent is written very realistic. I had always thought the theme into the importance of trust in a marriage was interesting. So when I saw in the trailer that Shen Bi Jun dumped Lian Cheng Bi at the altar, I was But I do keep an open mind out for the story changes, maybe they will make it up in another way.

P.S. I heard that that will merge two characters later on. I wonder who?

do you know the ending of the novel, whether Shen Bi Jun ended up with XYL or LCB? Because the last chapter i read, XYL fell from the cliff

Hooked after only a few episodes. Really engaging story, fast pacing, bizarre tone, witty writing, and eccentric characters.

Probably the most brilliant performances I've ever seen from either Yan Kuan or Li Yixiao, the two of whom have great chemistry together.

So far the best Gu Long adaptation I've ever watched, and I usually despise them.

Reaching ep 25, and I've grown disliking Shen Bi Jun. At this point she's become my least favorite character. I think she's selfish and sorta manipulative -- all behind the damsel-in-distress facade. I think she was better written in the novel, as a married woman who shows a great restraint.

Feng Siniang remains my top choice for the best character AND portrayal in the drama. I like her relationship with Yang Kaitai (although it's not romantic yet at this stage), she's clearly the one who wears the pants . Another character that I've come to really like is Shen Feiyun (Shen Bijun's mother) - she's badass! (hate her eyebrows and headpieaces, though)
