HOW many ways are there to place four marbles of different colours into four empty boxes? - See more at: http://www.straitstimes.com/news/sin....UzxY1SpY.dpuf

I thought the answer is 24. But it is wrong.

    Tried the marble question again.
    1. Put all 4 marbles in one box = put it in four different ways. Four combinations.
    2. Put three marbles in one box and one in another box. 12 combinations right?
    3. Put 2 marbles in one box and another two in another box. 3 combinations right?
    4. Put 1 marble in one box and three marbles in another box. Same as (2).

So total = 19? But the answer given is 15. WHY?

Is an old one-hundred dollar bill worth more than a new one?

Ans: Yeah. $100 bill is always worth more than $1.

    Can someone explain???

After Cheryl's birthday, now we have Cheryl's age. http://www.straitstimes.com/news/sin...s-age-20150515

    Cheryl's age x (Albert's age)^2 = 144
For this, we can use Excel to generate the different combinations of ages.
    So, we get:
    1 x 12 x 12
    4 x 6 x 6
    9 x 4 x 4
    16 x 3 x 3
    36 x 2 x 2
    144 x 1 x 1

Cheryl is unlikely to be age 1 and 144.
    Cheryl's age + 2(Albert's age) = A certain bus number?
    4 + 6 + 6 = 16
    9 + 4 + 4 = 17
    16 + 3 + 3 = 22
    36 + 2 + 2 = 40

So, am I suppose to find out all the bus numbers in Singapore and choose the one which correspond to the combination? Ok, I try this method
    http://www.sbstransit.com.sg/transpo...timetable.aspx
    Bus 16 = yes
    Bus 17 = yes
    Bus 22 = yes
    Bus 40 = yes

Am I now suppose to assume that the brothers cannot be so young (say 2,3 and 4 years old) and choose 6? Then Cheryl is only 4 years old. Hmm, ...

After going through a few solutions, I am able to understand these for:
    1. Cheryl's birthday http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/15/sc...hday.html?_r=0

    2. Cheryl's age http://mustsharenews.com/cheryls-birthday-part-2/

more than a new one = new one"-dollar" note? Is it correct, grammatically?

    Found the answer which I can understand: 1 x 4 (1 in each box) + 2 x 3 (2 in 2 boxes) + 4 (3 in 3 boxes) + 1 ( 4 in 4 boxes) = 15 ways https://www.facebook.com/TheStraitsT...52702108357115

Looks like all riddles solved by OTHERS.

I don't understand your question. Are you asking about the explanation given for the answer?

    1. In Singapore, you cannot take a photograph of someone with an umbrella. Why not?

    2. Ah Loong lighted 50 candles to commemorate SG50. A wind blew and extinguished 15 of them. If no more candles were extinguished, how many candles does Ah Loong have left in the end?

    1. You can't take a photograph of someone with an umbrella, unless the umbrella has a camera embedded in it.
    2. Ah Loong will have 50 candles, 35 of them lit.

Explain 2, and why Ah Loong doesn't have 50 candles left at the end. Did the wind blow away 15 of them as well as extinguishing them?

The answer provided is strange which I cannot find now. Basically, the 35 "burning" candles will have melted. Hence, at the end, only the 15 "extinguished" candles will be left.

The question, at least as you've cited, doesn't define a point in time at which the question is being framed. If the question is asked immediately after the 15 candles were extinguished, the 35 burning candles will still be candles.
