Okay guys, here's another poster I made. I just can't help myself. The poem I used in the poster by Li Bai reads:

Jing Ye Si (Quiet Night Thoughts)

Before my bed
There is bright-lit moonlight
So that it seems
Like frost on the ground:
Lifting my head
I watch the bright moon
Lowering my head
I dream that I'm home.
I love this poem so much.
Okay here's the poster. Enjoy!

Hi guys! Managed to squeeze another chapter in. It is kind of short though. Well, got to go to bed. Enjoy!

*************
Something Smells Fishy

“We’re alive!!” the people all shouted with glee, quickly evacuating the battered boat.
As the men helped the last person off, the boat was pulled down the river. As the boat drifted off, the terrified occupants stand on shore watching it disappear into the distant.

Realizing that they needed to continue their trip, the people began to disperse every which way. Some headed into the nearest town, other went west, and some stood there not knowing what to do next. Wing Yi was the one that simply stood there, staring into the distance.

The woman came over and stood quietly beside Wing Yi.

“Come on child,” the woman finally spoke up after twenty minutes, placing a hand Wing Yi’s shoulder.

Wing Yi had been standing there the whole twenty minutes and the tears are still rolling down her pale cheeks. By now the radiant sun has dried off their wet clothing, just by them standing there. Wing Yi had not noticed the small round woman standing beside her the whole time. Only when she spoke up, did Wing Yi break out of her trance.
Hearing the familiar soothing sounds, Wing Yi quickly looked over her shoulder, thinking it was Li MaMa. Her eager eyes fell on the woman’s sad smile.

“I had promise Li MaMa that I would deliver you to a friend of hers,” the woman said, slowly eyeing Wing Yi for any signs of acknowledgement that she had heard.

A part of Wing Yi wanted to stay, but her conscious half tells her that she must obey Li MaMa’s last wishes. Emotionally drained, Wing Yi gave the woman a slight nod to affirm her wish.

The woman leads the way northward with Wing Yi trudging along with her eyes fixated on the gravel path. As the two figures walk, the sun tells that afternoon was quickly approaching. Miraculously, the sound of a buggy was approaching. The woman stopped abruptly causing Wing Yi to run into her.

“I am sorry,” Wing Yi whispered.

“Don’t worry about it,” the woman said, her eyes eagerly trying to spot the buggy.

Finally the buggy can be seen with an old man in a fisher’s hat, steering.

The woman smiled as the buggy comes to a gradual stop right in front of them.

“Hello, sir,” the woman said cheerfully up to the old man.

“Where are you two headed?” the old man said, taking off his hat and wiping his brows.

“Can I ask how far it is from here to Xia Zie?” the woman asked politely.

“Goodness, that’s at least five hours!” the man said with a jolly laugh. “You don’t expect to walk all the way there are you? With the child?”

“Well, no…” the woman said hesitantly before she proceed to ask. “Could I possible ask for a ride there?”

“Just so happens that I am headed there to drop off an order of dried fish,” the old man said briskly. “I would be happy to have some companions to keep me company. The only problem is that the fish will smell a heck a lot in the back.”

“Oh, that won’t be a problem at all,” the woman said quickly, with a smile of gratitude. “Thank you so much!”

During the whole time, Wing Yi has not made a sound as stood looking at the ground.

“Hurry child,” the woman said to Wing Yi, helping her into the buggy before getting on herself.

The buggy started up and the wind coming through the front windows drafted the strong odor back to the occupants. Wing Yi was oblivious to it. The woman noticed it but simply sat opposite of Wing Yi with a sad smile on her face as she looks across at the child.

It had been four hours into the ride before they stopped for a break. Both Wing Yi and the woman seemed quite relieved to be breathing in fresh air and stand on solid ground. The two horses were given water and a chance to rest. The old man came over to them with a round bread, a handful of dried fish, and a bottle of water.

“Here you go,” he said, handing the food over to the woman who gladly too it with a “thank you.”

“The sun is about to set,” the old man inquired. “We have to get going soon.”

“Yes,” the woman said kindly, passing the bread to Wing Yi who reluctantly took it.

“Eat up now,” she said sweetly.

Wing Yi forced herself to cram down a piece of bread.

“Thank you,” Wing Yi said weakly, taking the bottle of water the woman offered.

That little bit of food did actually make Wing Yi’s seasickness cease.

“You’re welcome,” the woman said with a smile at the same time helping Wing Yi back into the buggy.

“Ready?” the old man shouted from the front.

“Yes,” the woman shouted back.

By now, Wing Yi was becoming more aware of where she was. She was more responsive.

To lighten the mood, the woman said jokingly, “I bet we will be smelling like dried fish for at least a year.”

Wing Yi smiles weakly.

The woman was happy to see that Wing Yi was getting better. She used this opportunity to ask, “I am Hai Bu. What’s your name?”

Wing Yi looks up slowly to meet her gaze.

“Wing Yi,” she managed to say.

“Oh, what a great name!” the woman said cheerfully. “I had a friend name Wing Zi back home.”

Wing Yi’s curious nature could not help but force her to ask, “Where are you from?”

“Well,” the woman said with sadness in her tone. “A place I have not seen in years.”

“I hope you will get to go back home one day,” Wing Yi said blankly, remembering the brothel.

“I hope so too,” the woman said sadly, looking out the window.

For some reason, I think that Li Ma Ma is still alive but that was just a prediction. We won't really know until you update more.Nice poster and great update. I feel so sorry for little Wing Yi. She lost the person who have been caring for her all these years. Li Ma Ma is like a mother to her. By the way, does Wing Yi know that Li Ma Ma is not her mother?

Hi Jeh!!

So happy to see you have read my latest chapter!
You're right! Li MaMa isn't dead. Good prediction. To answer your question, Wing Yi does not know that Li MaMa is not her mother. Li MaMa never revealed it as to protect her from danger. She'll learn eventually.
I really want to update, but my teachers all decide to give me projects. I hope to squeeze in a chapter before the weekend though.
Thanx so much for stopping by once again and dropping a particularly long comment.

Hi Hannah!

So happy to hear from you. Don't worry about it, no need to apologize. I am happy you are still reading, but of course I always looked forward to comments.
Hai Bu is important but not as important as others to come. It is she who will transport Wing Yi to her new "home".
Vincent...soon, soon, I promise.
I had happened to stumble on Li Bai's poem while I was surfing the net. It is so short but so effective.
Thanx for the nice compliments on my endless production of posters and now banner. I really can't help myself. I get poster happy quite often so forgive me. I am glad you like them.
To answer your inquiry, Wing Yi will be in numerous adventures. Her life will tak many turns. It is possible that Wing Yi will be married off. Actually, your comment has given me some great ideas I hope to incorporate into my story. Thanx!
BTW, don't worry, I will make some more Vincent posters and banners. My goal is to make at least one poster for the main characters. Hopefully.
Well, I think these responses of mine are longer than my chapters. I will end it here by saying thanx.

The Purse

“Whoo there!” the old man shouted while pulling back on the reins.
“We’re finally here,” Hai Bu remarked, getting out of the smelly buggy.

She offered a hand to Wing Yi who jumped off, happy to stretch out her cramped legs.

Instantly, various noises surrounded them. If Wing Yi thought her town was noisy and busy, than she has obviously not seen this town. Multiply the noises, clamors, and people by five to get only a part of this bustling town.
Building crowded next to one another. Some small, but most are three-story complexes. People here acted as though everyday was the Moon Festival.

Evidently Wing Yi could not stay sullen for too long. As she stands next to Hai Bu, her eyes try to take in everything all at once. Wing Yi could see beggars lining the streets, well-dressed men feasting in the three story buildings with their colleagues, and soldiers patrolling the streets. Of course, upon seeing the soldiers, the beggars would flee to another spot and resume their work at hand. The most notable were fancily dressed women going into the jewelry and fabric stores, while their elegant carriages waited in front. Oddly enough, kids like her are not seen roaming the streets.

“Everything is so different,” Wing Yi thought to herself.

“Thank you sir,” Hai Bu said with a gracious smile, pulling out some spare change.

“Don’t mention it,” the old man said with a laugh, lugging off the dried fish.

Hai Bu quickly puts back the change, because even though she wanted to pay the old man, this was all the money she had on her.

“Thank you,” Hai Bu said again before heading into the other side of the street.

Her left hand took hold of Wing Yi’s right hand.

“Ready?” Hai Bu asked with a genial smile.

Wing Yi nodded as Hai Bu lead the way.

Hai Bu stops in front of an antique store. Unlike the others, this store was kind of quiet. The owner was busying himself with the dusting as Hai Bu and Wing Yi enter.

“Excuse me sir?” Hai Bu asked politely.

The man thought that he had a costumer, so he quickly turns towards their direction only to find a poor dressed woman standing there with an equally detestable boy beside her. The slight breeze carried their strong fish scent into the store. The man’s nose was in alert of this foul odor.

“Obviously, they were not here to buy his merchandise,” the man thought, raising a finger to his nose. “Probably beggars. The nerve of them going into his store and stinking up the place.”

“Get out of here,” he said with a quick hand motion. “Or I’ll call the soldiers on you.”

“But…” Hai Bu began. “I just wanted to ask you how I could get to Handong drugstore.”

“Get out! Get out!” the owner shouted at them.

Wing Yi and Hai Bu were forced to leave, since they did not want trouble with the authorities.

Hai Bu was dejected as she stands in the street still holding on to Wing Yi’s hand.

“Don’t worry, we’ll find someone,” Hai Bu tried to reassure Wing Yi and herself.

Wing Yi felt really bad for acting so passive when this overly generous woman was trying her best to help her. But why?

“I know ma’am,” Wing Yi responded with a slight smile.

“Well, it seems that people here are not too fond of weary travelers,” Hai Bu tried to joke.

The afternoon was quickly winding down. The people were beginning to close up for the day.

The two of them rested on a small shrine on the further end of the street under a tree for ten minutes to figure out the next plan of action.

“Oh, no,” Hai Bu thought to herself, finally remembering. “I have to get her to Handong before eight.”

Wing Yi’s stomach began to growl, noticeably loud.

“Hungry?” Hai Bu asked as she looks at the boy.

Wing Yi responded with a shake of the head and a warm smile. In order to keep herself focused on something else besides hunger, Wing Yi stood up and walked around.

A beautifully elegant woman walks by with her son, who was dressed in a blue dress shirt with a green jade hanging from his waist. The woman was too busy trying to get home before the dark that she did not noticed that her purse had dropped by accident.

Just so happens that Wing Yi witnessed this. As the mother and son proceed, Wing Yi picks up the exquisite blue embroidered purse.

“Wait!” Wing Yi shouted after them.

The son heard Wing Yi shouting from behind and turns to see. He was about fifteen years old but he looks much younger. The woman also turned around to see who was shouting.

Wing Yi ran breathlessly to catch up to them. When Wing Yi started running, Hai Bu did not know what to do but to follow her.

The mother and son by now had stopped dead in their tracks as they see a lanky boy running up to them.

“That’s my purse!” the woman thought in alarm, seeing Wing Yi with the purse.

“Here you are madame,” Wing Yi managed to utter through gasp of breathe, motioning over to the street in front of the shrine. “You dropped this over there.”

“Well, thank you so much,” she said with a pleasant smile, taking the purse Wing Yi handed to her. “I don’t know how to thank you.”

The guy, standing by his mother, was looking at Wing Yi with a curious eye.

“It is very rare to find such descent people in town,” the woman said, holding on to her purse. “It is just that the purse was given to me as an anniversary gift a few weeks ago. Thank you so much for returning it for me. How can I thank you?”

“Madame,” Wing Yi began in a confident but sincere tone. “Can you please give us directions to the Handong drugstore?”

Hai Bu stands there quietly, letting Wing Yi work her magic.

“That’s it?” the woman said with a puzzling look. “Well, of course. Um… go three blocks from here and then make a right turn and to the left of that street should be a big building. Next to the big building is a small store that sells herbs. I am pretty sure the store is called Handong.”

“Thank you,” Hai Bu spoke up.

“Oh, it is no problem at all,” the woman replied. “It is I who should thank you. Are you sure we can’t do anymore to help?”

“No, you have helped us plenty,” Hai Bu inquired, looking at them then at Wing Yi.

“Well, we best be going now and let you two go.”

“Good bye,” the woman said, smiling towards them but especially at Wing Yi.

Wing Yi politely smiled back.

“Thanks,” the guy said to Wing Yi before escorting his mother home.

“Let’s go then,” Hai Bu said with an enthusiastic tone. “We can still make it by then.”

The sun is still barely visible in the distant but the rows of building gave the illusion that it was much darker. The faint light casts a shadow on the two figures as they make their way to the Handong drugstore.

Hi guys! Just finished another chapter. It is probably my last one for this week. Enjoy!

****************
Knock, Knock

“There it is!” Hai Bu said with much relief.

Wing Yi smiles too, seeing her so relieved.

Hai Bu goes to the wooden board used as a door and knocks on it.

“It is not closed already, is it?” she pondered, continuing to knock.

After a minute, the door was carefully opened and a tall skinny man came out.

He looked at the two of them, but moreso on Wing Yi. Wing Yi senses him looking at her rather oddly and so did Hai Bu.

“Can I please speak with Mister Wei Gai?” Hai Bu asked, holding on to Wing Yi’s hand.

His eyes darted at the south end of the street and then to the north.

“Yes,” he said in a somber tone. “Please come in.”

He motions them into the drugstore before carefully closing the wooden door behind him. The interior was dimly lit with a tall candle on the far end of the counter.

Wing Yi was not the type to cry, much less get easily scared, but now she felt her nerves wavering.

The eriee shadows cast by the one candle moved around the drugstore. The store is obviously a drugstore, with rows of cabinets lining the walls. The smell of herbal medicines was quite strong.

“Please have a seat,” the man said as he too sat down at the opposite end.

“Um… thank you,” Hai Bu replied with a bit of nervousness in her voice that he detected.

“Li MaMa tells me to come here and see you.”

He nodded slightly as a sign of acknowledgement.

Wing Yi looked at Hai Bu questioningly. Hai Bu sadly looked away from her and focused her attention on the man.

“This little one must be…” the man said in a low voice, looking at Wing Yi steadily.

“Yes, I am Wing Yi,” Wing Yi said in a matter-of-fact tone, turning her attention to the opposite side of the table.

He gives a slight chuckle as he stood up. His shadow seemed to encompass the entire room.

“Can I see you’re proof that you are indeed Wei Gai?” Hai Bu asked politely.

“Indeed,” the man said in a low, almost menacing voice. “I will have to go into the back room to get it. Please wait.”

The rose from his seat and went to the adjacent room. Just as he was leaving, Wing Yi saw a faint smile on his face, before he disappears.

Hai Bu was facing her with tears forming in her eyes.

“Good-bye Wing Yi,” Hai Bu said, all teary-eyed. “Remember that she would have wanted you to be taken care of by him.”

“What?” Wing Yi said, aghast. “You are leaving me…with him?”

“I am only carrying out her wishes,” Hai Bu said in desperation. “Please forgive me.”

Wing Yi did not know how to respond.

“Why is this happen to me?” Wing Yi thought to herself, face with anguish and confusion. “Why does everyone I love and care for leave me? Is it me?”

“Why can’t I come with you?” Wing Yi asked pleadingly. “I promise to be good. Please?”

“I am sorry,” Hai Bu said through her sobs, going over to the farther end of the store to calm herself.

All of a sudden, the candlelight was blown out. Hai Bu’s sobs instantly stopped. There was thud sound and then it was silent again.

Wing Yi reaches out her hand and felt nothing but air. The room was pitch black. Instead of crying out, Wing Yi stood still to listen, covering her mouth with her two shaking hands. At first, she could here nothing but the sound of the beating of her heart against her ribbed cage. Then she could hear the sound of someone approaching from the direction that Hai Bu was standing just a few seconds ago. But all of sudden, another sound
erupted that sounded like a muffled cry and then another thud.

Everything that is happening seems like some horrific nightmare.

Then after a few seconds, Wing Yi hears someone’s footsteps going towards the counter.

The person lit the candle and was blowing out the match.

Once again the room was lit, but this time the light seemed much brighter. Wing Yi’s eyes quickly adjusted to the light and she could first make out only the outline of the person carrying the light. Then she saw a tall skinny figure with a sword in his hands, blood dripping from it.

Wing Yi fell back and by now her eyes could make out the rest of the room. The first thing that she notices is Hai Bu lying on the floor motionless, while the blood slowly seeped out.

At this point, Wing Yi did not care if the man was going to kill her. She ran over to Hai Bu lifeless body and picked her head up.

“Wake up! Wake up!” Wing Yi sobbed. “Please!”

Wing Yi was too preoccupied with Hai Bu to have noticed the other corpse lying face down a foot away.

The man approached Wing Yi. Wing Yi puts Hai Bu down and makes a mad lunge at the man.

“Wait!” the man tried to explain as he tries to dodge her. “I can help!”

Wing Yi stops dead in her tracks as tears covered her face.

He rushes over to Hai Bu and takes her pulse.

“She’s still alive,” he said quickly. “But we have to stop her bleeding soon.”

“Go to the cabinet, fourth row on the right, six spaces in,” he instructed. “Hurry!”

Wing Yi snaps out of it, because she knew that she could not lose Hai Bu too. She rushes to the cabinet and did
exactly as ordered.

While she was getting a handful of it, the man tore off a piece of cloth from his own clothing to stop the profuse bleeding. Wing Yi quickly gathers the medicine and rushed back to the man.

“Keep pressure on it,” he told Wing Yi, placing her hands on Hai Bu’s wound.

The blood quickly turning the white cloth a bright red. He took the leaves, stuffed them in his mouth, and started chewing fervently. Wing Yi’s eyes were fixated on Hai Bu’s extremely pale face.

“Let’s hope this works,” the man muttered, taking out the chewed leaves and carefully placing them on the wound.

The paste managed to close up the wound effectively and temporarily stopped any further bleeding.

“Okay,” he begins. “I need you to stay here with her, while I go get a doctor.”

Wing Yi nodded quickly.

Hi Hannah!!

So happy to hear that you like the poster of Vincent.
Sorry if I seem reluctant to answer your question about the people in the poster, becuase I am writing as I go. Ideas and plot formulate by themselves. Odd huh? It might be General Yuen in the poster, but I can tell you that one of them is Zhao's father. Can you guess which one? Well, I can't say to much or the plot will be revealed.
As to your other great questions, they will be answered soon enough. Please keep reading to find out. (my sad attempt at suspense )
Thanx for the nice compliment on the new poster. Soon enough I will have another poster(sorry I just can't help myself).
Ch.24 is my only chap for this week. I have so much school stuff to get done before Thanksgiving. I will probably update much more fluently then. Till then bye! and Thanx again!
P.S. Vincent has a few chapters to go.

Hi guys!
Another chapter! Enjoy!

****************
The Skinny Man

In no time, he was back but this time accompanied by an old man, presumably the doctor.

“Hurry and move her inside,” the doctor ordered, directing them to the room inside.

Obviously this store was his, because he knew where everything was located without any hesitations. The doctor is a man in his late sixties, who had been a doctor in town for about twenty years. He is a quiet and reserve person but is very caring to his patients. He moves to the rows of cabinets and pulling out the herbal systematically, while his long gray beard swings gently from side to side. Years of experience had made him apt at curing the most fatal wounds.

Wing Yi and the skinny man carefully hauled Hai Bu’s seemingly lifeless body onto the stiff bed. During the whole time, Wing Yi moved about with great efficiency.

“It was kind of weird to have things happen so fast,” Wing Yi thought with a baffled look on her face. “Why is this man so anxious to help. Who is he?”

“I need a warm water basin,” the doctor demanded, examining Hai Bu’s wound.

“I will!” Wing Yi quickly answered and was about to go, when the skinny man spoke up.

“No, you stay here with her and assist the doctor,” the skinny man suggested, giving Wing Yi a knowing nod before disappearing again through the doors.

“Yes, yes,” the doctor remarked with a worried look. “I will need you to get me some bandages from the drawer over there.”

With hesitation, Wing Yi immediately retrieved the bandages before resuming her position beside Hai Bu.

“Um…sir?” Wing Yi asked politely. “Is she going to be okay? What else do you need me to do?”

“Nothing for the moment,” the doctor replied slowly.

“Water basin,” the skinny man said, approaching them with a large basin of very warm water.

“Put it here,” the old doctor instructed, taking the white cloth and soaking it into the basin. “You two should go outside while I do this.”

The skinny man nodded and nudges Wing Yi slightly to get her attention.

“Oh,” Wing Yi responded, walking behind the man to the door.

Before she left, Wing Yi turns around and said, “Please don’t let her die.”

The doctor gave her a long look, before he returned his attention back to his patient.

“Don’t worry,” the skinny man said reassuringly. “Doctor Koo is the best doctor around. She’ll be fine.”

Entering the room, Wing Yi notices that the dead man on the floor was gone and all that was left is a stain on the ground. The skinny man could see Wing Yi’s frightened expression.

“Well, I dragged him into the cellar,” the man began, walking over to the stained mark. “The authority cannot see this or...”

“Why?” Wing Yi finally spoke up, directing her gaze from the stain to his face. “Who are you? Did you kill him?”

“Yes,” the man answered reluctantly and then stops. “I
had to.”

“Well, you still haven’t told me who you are, how you knew Li MaMa, and why you killed that man,” Wing Yi bravely inquired with firm determination in her tone.

The man knew he has to tell her to ease her suspicion.

“I am an old friend of Li MaMa,” the man said, turning around to face the flickering candle.

“She never mentioned she had any friends,” Wing Yi said incredulously.

“She was suppose to meet me here along with her small companion,” the man said with a slight smile. “I see that you are the only one here. Where is she?”

“She..she…” Wing Yi began, but could barely continue. “She’s dead.”

This was the first time she has admitted to herself that Li MaMa is gone forever.

The skinny man stood in shock.

To change the subject, Wing Yi regains her control and asked, “Why did you kill that guy?”

“I…” the man muttered but before he could finish the sentence, the doctor’s voice was calling them in.

Wing Yi was too worried about Hai Bu’s welfare to stand around and wait for the man’s explanation. In no time, Wing Yi was next to Hai Bu, holding Hai Bu’s hands in hers.

“Well,” the doctor inquired, bring up a hand to wipe the bead of sweat on his furrowed brows. “She is stabilized for the time being, but I need to monitor her for remainder of the night.”

“So she’s going to be okay, right?” Wing Yi said happily,
beaming at the two men.

“We need to go,” the man said looking at her. “The doctor will see to her, so don’t worry.”

”Go?” Wing Yi loosen Hai Bu’s hands and lays them underneath the bed cover. “Where?”

“Um…well,” the man tried to continue. “I am taking you back to my friend’s house. Li MaMa had written me a letter, asking me to help her find a place to resident. Since, she is not…well here… it is my responsibility to look after you for her.”

He hands the letter to Wing Yi. She recognizes some of the words, but what reaffirmed the man’s wild gesture was Li MaMa’s signature on the letter, because it was indeed hers.

“But can I stay here with her until she’s okay?” Wing Yi said with a pleading look in Hai Bu’s direction.

“No, we can’t,” the man responded with a more sincere tone. “This place is no longer safe for you. Don’t worry, the doctor and I will arrange a recuperating place for her.”

Wing Yi gives him a puzzled look.

“Why is he so eager to take me in? Where to?” Wing Yi thought to herself. “I cannot simply follow Hai Bu when she gets better. Li MaMa would have wanted this.”

“Can you please inform me on how she is doing?” Wing Yi asked the doctor, her eyes glistens with tear formation.

“I promise to take good care of her,” the doctor said and for the first time, he smiles.

“Ready?” the man asked her.

Wing Yi responded with a slight nod.

“We have to get there in time or he won’t let us in,” the man inquired, shaking the doctor’s hand.

“Please take care of her,” the man said in a sad tone. “Money is not an issue,”

“Of course,” the old doctor replied as he leads them out.
Wing Yi goes over to Hai Bu for a final good-bye.

She whispered, “Miss Hai Bu, don’t worry, I can take care of myself. Thank you for all you did and sacrificed for
me.”

Wing Yi goes to the entrance and stood there for a second before closing the door and heading out to the main room. There she found the two of them conversing. She sees the doctor nodding slowly. Seeing Wing Yi entering the room, the doctor looks at her direction.

“She’s be alright,” the doctor said while stroking his beard.

“It is getting quite late, we should be going,” the man said to Wing Yi.

Question

Just out of curiousity. Is your fanfic's setting in the Ming or Ching Dynasty? Your posters totally confuse me on which dynasty it is setting in.
I just love how you Captivate My Mind

Self reminder - Update blog more often and continue editing/writing for TOV fanfic.
