    Surprisingly, why no mention of Ah Zhi from DGSD? Or did I miss it?

    I am not including characters from Jin Yong or Gu Long's work since they are generally well liked by fans and would be a bias list.

    Continuing with the list...I am likely going to miss some of these actress other roles but these were mainly the ones I was first impressed by them.

    Michelle Yim
    The Water Legend ATV 1981 (corrected)
    She was funny at the start and then became so powerful, she manage to achieve her goals in the end even if she died from it.

    Leanne Li
    The Young Dowager ATV 1984
    Young Cixi was a deliciously grey character. Even if she still did love the useless emperor in the end.
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c399/tieu_yeu_nu/NuMaDau/imagesXLH8ABWP.jpg')

    Tu Shan Ni

    Female Official Taiwan 1998
    She was in one case, she was beautiful, smart and so cold. Even though she didn't die in the end she and Vincent Jiao still didn't get together.

    The Seven Heroes and Five Gallants 1994
    She also appeared in one case, she came back for revenge and then escaped prison to take her best friend, who was dying, to the beach. She was so cool and treasured her friend so much.

    Alyssia Chai
    Swordsman 2
    She wasn't exactly an evil character nor was she from an evil sect, she was more of an outsider. She did return with vengeance on her mind so she was viewed as a threat.

    It's too difficult to even decide if I love or hate her character.

    I think she played a spy here. She wasn't a villain but she wasn't good either.

    Louisa So Yuk Wah

    Dark Tales 2 1998 TVB
    She played the ghost mom in one of the stories, she was not evil but as a ghost she was being hunted as well as her son.
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c399/tieu_yeu_nu/NuMaDau/untitled.png')

    Road to Eternity 1999 TVB
    Her husband was framed and she wanted to save him so she did everything in her power to take the blame off him, including killing some other people, she was caught in the end.

    Jiang Xin
    Empress in the Palace 2011 China
    Probably one of the most hated of the drama but I adored her so much, she was such a joy to watch, every time she was on screen I was riveted, so charismatic.
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c399/tieu_yeu_nu/NuMaDau/11101124110478_271d.jpg')

    The Journey of Flower 2015 China
    Why? Cos she's pretty.

    Gigi Fu
    Romantic Swordsman 1999 TVB
    I did not like this character in the book nor am I a fan of this storyline, I did not like any of the versions I've seen and had especially hated this character in most of them, 2nd only to the male lead in my hatred. Here though, the plot was changed drastically while keeping enough of the elements to still have some resemblance of the original novel. With all my prejudice, I still liked Gigi Fu in this version, I watched it mainly for the female lead who I had listed above, but found Gigi's character so interesting and liked her for it. She was a victim of circumstances to start with but then she learnt how to use her greatest asset, her beauty, for her own purposes. The only thing I didn't like was that she still liked the male lead in the end. Gigi really isn't beautiful enough in my eyes to play this character, but she made up with her acting.

    Bonus
    I am one of the few who did not hate Guo Fu in Return of the Condor Heroes, and this is due to Gigi Fu. When I first watched ROCH 95 (the first I've ever watched), I liked her, I did not find her hateable at all, she was a brat but that was it.
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c399/tieu_yeu_nu/NuMaDau/2043037497575437598.jpg')
    How can anyone hate that face?

    Selena Li
    Face to Fate 2006 TVB
    My liking for her may have stemmed more from my liking for the coupling but her character was really likable, she was filial to her mother in law and loved her step son so much, she was there for Raymond when he needed her the most but in the end, no matter how much she loved him, she wasn't someone who would blindly accept all the 'bad' deeds he had done to save her.
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c399/tieu_yeu_nu/NuMaDau/u1513p28t3d1232151f326dt20060905143819.jpg')

    Ghost Dragon of Cold Mountain 2014 TVB
    I liked this character the moment she appeared but knew I would come to dislike her 'love' for the male lead. Script writers now days just can't leave a good character well enough alone.

    I have not seen The Legend of the Unknowns but have seen The Black Sabre...I do not remember Tse Ling at all. I'm not a fan of the male lead, I saw him in a couple of series and didn't really like any of his characters.

    I think Gigi Fu is very pretty, sadly I don't really see her in much series. I think she was very pretty in romantic swordsman.

    I saw black sabre a long time ago so don't remember much. I just know she was with this one guy in the beginning to get information from him or something but she did love Hugo's character.

    I also want to add Fiona Leung's character from Justice Pao here. I'll try to find a picture later. She was trying to seek revenge against those who were involve in her sisters murder.

    Michelle Ye
    Lofty Water Verdant Bow 2003 TVB
    I think this was a lot of people's favourite since she was the better actress and during a time Michelle was extremely popular. I liked this character for the same reason I liked Michelle Yim in The Water Legend. They were women who fought with everything they had and won. Sadly both died in the arms of the men they loved on their wedding night.

    Linda Chung
    House of Harmony and Vengeance 2011 TVB
    Bin Yuk-yin - Much like Selena Li's character, I knew this character will turn annoying but I still liked her. Sadly this is the only role of Linda Chung I ever liked, I did not become a fan but did keep tabs on her afterwards. I like Yuk Yin for how forward she was and how brave she was for standing up for herself in a time when women were looked down on. I was all for her and Myolie to go all yuri on me but knew it was a pipe dream.

    Esther Kwan
    The Legendary Four Aces 2000 TVB
    She played twins but I had always liked the assassin twin more. I felt sorry for her and really wanted her to have a happy ending which she kind of did. I disliked Nick Cheung's character for playing with her heart. She was such a lonely person who craved true love so much she was willing to sacrifice everything for it, only to find out the man had changed his mind and never loved her to start with.
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c399/tieu_yeu_nu/NuMaDau/nick001.jpg')

    Tavia Yeung
    Beyond the Realm of Conscience 2009 TVB
    I think the liking for her characters steamed more from the contrast in the perfect-in-every-way Charmaine's character. I liked her for her craftiness, even though she was not as talented but she knew how to use what she had and the chances she's been given to her advantage.

    Charmaine Sheh
    War and Beauty 2004 TVB
    Besides Yue Fei, this is my 2nd favourite from the show, I liked her for how she is so cool and collected most of the time, I liked her for how she in the end, her reason for living and leaving the palace was her sister.

    I remember this character. She was the twin of Royal Cat's fiancé. There are a lot of female characters from Judge Pao that I liked. Could make a whole list with them.

    I'll add Ada Choi in Revelation of the Last Hero to the list of women who turned villian.
    Iirc, Ada's character in the serial was "Ling Seong". Aaron referred to her as "Ming Yuet" due to his dream, but that wasn't her name.

    I also liked the girl who her mother adopted later on - Ling Suet. She could have ended up with Derek (who finally reciprocated her love) in the end, but Sima Chungwan had to find them and kill her.

    I actually felt really really bad for Ling Seong. Lok Fung loved her dearly from the start and fell in love with her. She was charmed by his innocence, and loved him back, and did everything she could do to help him and protect him. Then finally she is forced to betray him because her mother works for Sima, and their entire faction had to support him, and so she sadly obeys her mother out of filial piety. At the end her mother reforms and becomes a couple with Bryan Leung's character, and she has the nerve to judge Ling Seong for her misdeeds. She would never have lost Lok Fung's trust had she not obeyed her mother, and her mother took no responsibility for forcing her daughter down the dark path, choosing instead to spout the righteous rhetoric at her.

    Lok Fung also really only loved Ling Seong throughout most of the show, even after she betrayed him. She was his light, his motivation and his muse in everything he did, while Ziping (Noel's character) was more like a best friend relation. Then Lok Fung finds out that Ziping is fated to die before her 21st birthday (or was it 18th)? Suddenly, his emotions change and his need to do right by Ziping and protect her from her death overrides any love he had for Ling Seong, and she promptly gets relegated to "friend". Part of that probably stems from her betrayal, but she really didn't want to do that, and only did it because of her (now-righteous) mother. Fennie's character, who never had a prayer of getting Lok Fung's love, also then decides to support Ziping and rub it in to Ling Seong, and she really has no other choice but to go for the man who loved her even though she knew he was evil, and she didn't really love him. She had to force herself to love Lik Hang because that was really the only route which she felt she could be happy, because really, if I were in her shoes I'd be really upset with everyone else in the cast, and there's no one else in the whole show who would even remotely symphathise with, understand or care about what she had to go through.

    So many people seem to like Ada's character from Revelation of the last Hero but I didn't.

    Though I agree with what Ian Liew said and really did feel bad for her but the choice was still hers to make in the end. I didn't like her as much as her characters from her other films because she couldn't stick to her conviction. If she was going to be bad, she should of went all out, but she still moped around too much. It doesn't help that between her and Frankie, I felt more sorry for Frankie and dislike her for using him that way.

    The characters that I felt most sorry for in the whole ROTLH was actually the 1st evil guys daughter and her husband. They were two innocent people who tried to do right by their family and loved each other so much everyone else just could not compare. Even to this day, I remembered their last conversation with each other before he was attacked and lost his senses.

    He had a felt a forbearing and asked her to leave him if anything should happen, she took his hand and asked him if he knew what a wife to a husband was, he didn't answer or said some non inconsequential stuff, she told him a wife is the the shadow of her husband, once they were married, they would stick with each other for life.

    Afterwards, he was turned into a zombie killing machine and could no longer recognise her, she finally sacrifice herself to get him back to his senses and they died in each others arms.

    Maybe because I was so impacted by this couple and Frankie's plight that I could not feel love or compassion for everyone else. They just all paled in comparison.

    I think deep down, Ada's character was still too innocent and sweet to really turn over to the bad side. There was no real conviction to turn bad because it wasn't really what she wanted to begin with.

    Re: Frankie. If there is a "Good Guys Who Went Bad" thread, he would be on there, hehe. I liked him a lot in this series.

    I'm only on episode 8 but it reminds me a lot of The Snow is Red. I really like Yang Lu's character and thought it fits the whole devilish women theme. Her teacher hasn't shown up yet but the background story about her is creating a lot of anticipation for when she does appear.

    Oh, I didn't really "like" Ling Seong, I just felt really sorry for her and was really upset at the lack of support she got from the people around her, especially her goody-two-shoes mother who pretty much made her betray Lok Fung in the first place, and Lok Fung, who suddenly decided Ziping was more important simply because she was going to die.

    Yeah, I felt really sorry for Sima Chausik and her husband Flying Eagle (whose name I can't really remember), but they were heroic people down to the core, so it was expected that they would be likeable. Probably the only really heroic people in the series.

    I didn't really feel sorry for Frankie. He made a big show at the start about making sure he wouldn't kill people and whatnot (and after killing his first man he ends up going all regretful and self-pitable, but when he eventually ended up killing those three girls who were working for Ling Seong's mother, it didn't impact him at all. He basically beats them up, warns them not to come near him or he will kill them, they continue desperately to try and capture him, and he slashes them to death, looks at their bodies nonchalantly, and walks off without a shred of remorse or pity. It was like, he no longer cared about killing, and they were just his second, third and fourth kills. It was quite obvious by then that this was not a "nice" person by any means.

    Totally agree with you 100% on Ada's mother. She caused all these problems then turns around and pretends like its nothing to do with her and even daring to talk to her daughter like she was innocent from start to end.

    Frankie's character was supposed to be bad from the start, that's why Noel's father treated him so harshly. He is the perfect example of the nature vs nurture argument. Noel's father believes him to be bad by nature so treated him with prejudiced which in turns made him into the person he became.

    Like Lip Siu Fung from The Snow is Red, I don't believe she was bad by nature, they were both people who grew up in harsh environments under people of authorities who treated them with prejudiced and constantly threaten them with punishment or death. If you back a dog into a corner, you shouldn't be surprised when they bite back.

    I thought the evolution of Frankie's killings was done quiet well, I think the drama in general was done well.

    I think what made it tragic for Frankie is that, in this series, destiny was ultimately shown to be alterable. Noel's character avoided her fate to die after reaching her birthday with the help of Aaron. That leads me to think that Frankie's fate could have been altered as well if he had a more sympathetic support system.

    Is it even right for a father to discriminate between his kids? Should a kid who was fated to die at a certain age be treated kindly but a kid who was fated to turn evil be treated with hostility instead of with kindness. The father didn't even make an attempt to try to change his kids' lives around.

    It came out in 1996 and then remastered in 2008. Isn't 1996 when Snow is Red also came out?

    EP 1-7
    The theme of the series seem to be about revenge.

    The series starts out with Sister19 arriving at a manor and killing every living being inside except for the male lead, Yin JianPing. It turns out that Sister19 is exacting vengeance on behalf of her teacher.

    Years ago, Sister19's teacher was a ruthless beauty with unmatched ability with poison and martial arts. However, she was deemed too dangerous to be kept alive. The top leaders decided to trap her teacher and kill her off with explosives. Sister19's teacher was saved but was scarred.

    Sister19 realizes that she and her followers left a highly skilled survivor alive and goes back to find and finish him off. Yin JianPing and Sister19 keep crossing paths as Yin JianPing tries to leave the mountain. Yin JianPing is no match for Sister19 in martial arts and so has to rely on his wits. He pretends to not be the person they are searching for even though Sister19 thinks he is.

    Each of their encounters is thrilling to watch because you're always wondering if Sister19 will accept his fake identity/story and if Yin JianPing can get away. You can tell that Sister19 doesn't completely believe him but she's also curious about him. And they become more fascinated by each other each time they meet.

    So now Yin JianPing is under his dead master's orders to warn and aid each of those top leaders who had a part in the plot against Sister19's teacher.

    Along the way, Yin JianPing meets a young girl name LanXin. LanXin ends up liking him and tags along. LanXin and Sister19 meet up and feel instant sisterly affection toward each other. They end up becoming sworn sisters. (Wondering if they are real sisters and for the love triangle to start.)

    Sister19's teacher has three main female disciples. The first disciple is jealous because their teacher favors Sister19. The third disciple seem more reasonable but hasn't shown up much yet. I'm curious about the teacher but she's only shown up once and was veiled. All tales of her past were told in third person by other characters on the orthodox side. There's been no explanation from her point of view for her past actions as of this point.
