Looking forward to movie. Since the story is actually based on Return of the Condor Heroes (ROCH), and Bai Qian/Si Yin/Su Su is based on ROCH character Xiao Long Nu (XLN), it's very fitting for Crystal Liu to play this role cuz guess who played XLN in the 2006 ROCH adaptation?

did the author said that? when you mention that I see some resemblance with that drama, teacher and student romance, older woman and younger man romance, when XLN fall from the cliff make them separate long time

Meeting in the sea kingdom of East King = like variant of meeting in Passionless Valley in ROCH with YG reuniting with a XLN who claims she didn't know him, and a Gongsun Loue eyeing YG (and XLN) green with envy

Zhe Yan = the Giant Condor (he's called the Old Phoenix, flies around on a one-legged bird, and saved Yang Guo right after losing his arm)

(P.S.: Aren't I great for seeing these things just from viewing 14 episodes when ppl who've watched them all didn't even know a blind was pulled over their eyes by the very fact that ROCH served as the scaffold on which 3L3W (love) story is based, hence it is derivative work of Jin Yong...)

After I rage quit this series, but saw how awesome the extended movie trailer was, I went back to the drama. Love O2O was an interesting experiment in that I watched both movie and drama, but needed both to fully comprehend the work (though after seeing both, I much preferred the movie version). BTW, this isn't the first time I dropped a drama series 1/3 of the way. Check the Ice Fantasy thread on how I nearly gave up after a few episodes but resumed it later on... I'm now on Ep 40 of 3L3W.



Hmm, what can I say about episodes 1-40...

Ye Hua definitely lives up to his name as the YG clone. He isn't dumb like GJ, he saw thru Su Jin's plan to have the maid drug him.

Xuan Nu just gets more interesting. Just when this derivative work couldn't get enough of modeling events from ROCH, Xuan Nu strolls around carrying her sick child rather than (or akin to) Li MoChou abducting someone else's baby aka baby Guo Xiang...

3 months is a long time to wait for the movie to come out...

Some ppl say the best episode was 30, where YH (YG) reencounters SS (XLN). Been there done that says Jin Yong. The peach tree from which BQ fell and YH caught her, ain't that the woods in Passionless Valley where YG chance encounters XLN after looking for her nearly forever? She doesn't remember him, well XLN pretended not to know YG at that place did she not?


BTW, if anyone asks me why ROCH is the superior work in the Condor Trilogy (why I gave both ROCH clones Ice Fantasy and 3L3W a free 2nd pass b/c ROCH is my fav Jin Yong work bar none). Well it's just like Super Mario Bros.:

LOCH = SMB 1
HSDS = SMB 2
ROCH = SMB 3

ROCH was written after the author gained some storycraft experience...

I feel like Yehua deserved much better than what the author of 3L3W hashed up.

It is s-o-o-o EPIC!!

There are only two works in the world NOT daring enough to copy this ROCH gimmick, erm, I mean obsession with ppl losing arms. They are STAR WARS and 3L3W.

Obviously, why would a Westerner be interested in adapting a Chinese work? And why would a female author choose to copy a male writer?

- All the great ROCH characters are here in derivative form. Not a single char is skipped, not even Yang Kang (Mo Yuan)
- Ye Hua (Yang Guo) losing an arm in battle -- that is just so ROCH EPIC AWESOMENESS!!
- I like Guo Xiang from ROCH (2006), so I like this Bai Qian drama version
- OMG CGI battles done right. Episode 01 duel between Mo Yuan & Yao Guang even though only a short segment is 10x better than the duel of fate in STAR WARS Episode I between Darth Maul and QiGon + ObiWan

DISLIKES

- Bai Qian needs more social proof. In ROCH XLN had many ppl showing romantic interest (YG, rapist, Gongsun Zhi), but in 3L3W only Ye Hua and Li Jing interested in Bai Qian (Mo Yuan don't count cuz he's her master/can't ever show romantic interest in her).
- More ppl need to react to Bai Qian's beauty rather than trying to catch Ye Hua's attention.

AFTER THOUGHTS

- Thinking of skipping the movie version b/c:

when I watch non sub, i also read the novel as the guide. it help a lot.

Though I can't say Mark Chao is good looking, but in the drama, I just can't take my eyes off him. He fits Ye Hua's and Mo Yuan's characters so well! #heartstruck <3
