My recent trip to see Avatar Hallelujah Mountain in ZhangJiaJie, China:


This airplane (Hainan Airline) took me from the "East Coast" of North America all the way to Beijing (~14 hours flight). It flew over the North past Alaska into Russia straight to Beijing. A similar airplane then took me from Beijing to Changsha, then by tourist bus (~5-7 hours to the destination):

Before arriving at Avatar Hallelujah Mountain, we stopped by a naturally occurring cave. This is the tallest natural structure found in the cave and is called The Monkey King's staff (actual English name was something like "Sea Suppressing Needle", can't remember the exact name):

This is the gateway to the Mountains. It's actually a shuttle bus station at the base of the mountain. There is no walking up the mountains, the bus(es) will take you there. There are stairs/pathways around the mountain, but the buses cover most of the distance before hand:

BTW, the above images posted is only like 20% of the trip. We spent a good half a day trekking the mountains as a tourist group, even got to stand next to a really large quartz column and stare down into it as if into a bottomless pit. There are also several sculptures from Avatar the Movie at the site where you can have a professional photographer take a picture of you and print it on site. Whole trip costs $1,600/person (includes round trip airfare, all meals, all tickets to all events, 5 stars hotels, 9 days in Beijing, 5 days in Changsha and vicinity, includes visits to Great Wall of China, Forbidden Palace, Emperor's Summer Palace, and even that new glass bridge in ZhangJiaJie that just opened recently). If anyone interested, package can be booked thru an Asian travel agent in North America...

I'm going to let everyone in on a little secret. Obviously I didn't create those pictures, but above is how I tend to see the world. From my point of view everything Westerners produce, be it 5th gen stealth fighters or tech gadgets or kung fu moves or movies or what not, the results always fall short of what I would term awesome. Think Facebook is awesome? Well Wechat is Facebook on steroids plus 20 other apps crammed into one package. Stuff like that. The J-20 IS awesome, the F-22 isn't. Why I find all modern Hollywood movies, and I do mean ALL, save maybe Avatar 2, bland and uninteresting. It's only when you have a mostly Asian team responsible for what gets projected onto the silver screen (ie. Tron 2.0 SFX was created by mostly Chinese and Japanese and artists) does my curiosity pique a little.

In other words, if it weren't for Avatar Hallelujah Mountain (Chinese landscapes) and Na'vi's modeled after early 20th Chinese ppl, I probably couldn't care less about Avatar, nor would it have smashed box office records to claim the #1 spot worldwide. James Cameron's entire career was inspired by George Lucas. This was a man who was a truck driver when he first saw Star Wars and decided to turn his truck around and head to Hollywood to pursue a fiilm-making career. He probably found out Lucas adapted Jin Yong's works into Star Wars and decided to do the same adapting an entire country, China, and its ppl into a movie...
