I like most of them, in particular Huang Yaoshi (duh). But I don't get the costume designer/stylist for Yinggu (Southern Emperor's former wife). The actress who plays her is too young, and she looks like she's doing a cosplay with her white wig:

I also don't like Ouyang Ke of this version. I've posted his photo in the previous page (or perhaps two pages back). He looks too pretty for the flamboyant OYK. I prefer Wong Wan Choi 1983 version or the 2008 version by a far cry.

All the elder ladies has been quite young recently. Swordsman, ROCH 2014. This is in line with that. Yinggu in ROCH 2014 was almost as young. Mei Chaofeng now join the list too.

But I agree with you, the casting of Michael Miu as Huang Yaoshi is great!

Well, i never watched wuxia series made in after 2003, so that's 13 years of catching up, which i choose not to do because of the cringe-worthy nitpicks of the series made in the 21st century. So yeah, I haven't noticed till you pointed it out just now how young the older wuxia ladies are nowadays.

Sigh. I'm afraid that I'm going to watch this series with fast-forward mode for many scenes...

I see where you're coming from and I agree. As someone who has been watching Wuxia from the 80s onward, I get what you mean. Wuxia series has been in the down low for years.

I usually just watch what I can, out of hope for the most part. I've been let down so many times.

Is that Guo Jing carrying his mom ? He looked better there. He doesn't look too pretty, but more handsome and manly, instead. And, that YK and MNC really got my interest. It's gonna be the first time for me to expect YK-MNC more than GJ-HR.

Same here . The new Ode to Gallantry seemed promising. We just have to get the air date *lol*

I don't think we'll be getting an air date for that til a while, since it's base on a less popular novel with new faces, it's gonna be hard for TV stations to take priority in.

It was previously said to air in July, but with Demon Girl, Border Town Prodigal, Ice Fantasy, and Chusen, it was impossible to air Gallantry. Perhaps we'll get an air date once these series end.

As for YK and MNC, my expectation are low and since I'm a bit shallow, I'll watch this for MNC, she's quite pretty. Maybe I'll watch it for Mei Chaofeng and Yinggu too. lol

I think so, that's GJ carrying his mum.

Actually, I'm the opposite. I'm never interested in GJHR. Yes, I'm interested to see HR, but couldn't get excited about them in LOCH. Even in LOCH 83, i was much more invested in YK-MNC and was just watching GJRH mainly for Barbara's HR. I'm watching LOCH 2008 now, and I'm also just so-so towards Hu Ge's and Ariel Lin's GJHR (they did good jobs, but I'm still impartial).

This 2017, it might be the first time I might be interested in GJHR.

In ROCH 83, i did get excited about GJHR though. Brian Leung and Susanna Auyeung were a much more interesting couple for me than Andy-Idy...

If you ask me, I do not know what I am watching LOCH for. Maybe the ending is happy for GJ-HR.

Meh, I think I'm going to skip this production. LOCH was never my favorite. It's just like Harry Potter, the best one wasn't the first book, but the 4th One (Goblet of Fire), then it became icky after that... ROCH will always be the best work in the Condor Trilogy IMO...

Plus, the Yang Kang couple looks sort of ugly compared to the '83 cast. Almost like they purposely chose ugly ppl (sort of) to fill these roles, so the GJ-HR couple could shine...

I see.Too bad, but understandable. It's better to delay the air date, instead of gaining low rating.

I'm expecting them for a shallow reason too, since I'm not interested in their story . Actually, I'm interested in this new YK because he looked like the YK that I've had in mind : young, handsome, and a bit arrogant. Up until now, I still think that Miu Kiu Wai is the best YK until now, so, I'm curious on how this version is gonna be. The 2003 version acted like an arrogant spoilt teenager, but he didn't exactly look the part. Acting-wise, he was good.

The new MNC is so pretty. My favourite MNC so far is the 2003's version. Let's see how this one is gonna be. Regarding the old women who still looked young, well .. if their stories and the directing are better than YZ's version, then perhaps that this is forgivable *sigh*. Still, isn't it funny to find the women looked young while the 5 greats really look like the 5 greats???

Hehehe, HR is my no 2 favourite wuxia heroine, while GJ is so-so for me. But, they make a great combination and their cooperations are one of the things that made them interesting to watch/read. On the other hand, I got frustrated watching YK becoming evil and deceiving MNC all the time. That poor girl..being crazily in love with a bad boy. Still, while GJ and MNC are too easy to be fooled, the cool part is watching the smart cunning YK versus HR who is as smart and cunning as him.

Anyway, LOCH is not my favourite story, but I have to admit that the story is adventurous while the characters are unique and interesting. The 5 greats have their own rich stories, and there are still the stories about ZBT, MCF, Guo Jing's masters, etc2. That is why, every adapation got my attention, although I'll perhaps do the fast forward thing while watching it .

ROCH is the best for me, but I never think that LOCH is bad. Regarding the looks, I guess people have different taste. I think this YK-MNC are one of the pretiest among other versions.

It has too. Otherwise, we wouldn't have GF persuading GJ's blind teacher to get out of the island to find them, then met YG instead . Or, we wouldn't have GF cutting YG's arm and making him running away and meeting the Condor, in order for him to advance his skills. Or, GX wouldn't have been born, so she wouldn't become a nun and had ZZR as her great-great (how many great was it supposed to be ? ) grand student and found the Nine Yin Divine Skill

Hahah... add me to the pile of people who find HR interesting and GJ... so-so...

I definitely like LOCH for the amazing side characters- the 4 Greats with Zhou Butong are my favorites, followed by YK and HR...

But in terms of grabbing me by the heart and never letting me go after nearly 30 years, it would have to be the first time I watched Tony Leung's version of HSDS. Those Wudang warrior-uncles of his and the scintillating Zhaomin will always be my first love in wuxia!

I'm psyched for this version for only one reason: Micheal Mui as Huang Yaoshi.

    Hahaha .. hi, Yanfeng!

I won't mind if an LOCH adaptation gives more space for YK-HR's battle of wits . HR's intelligent and cunningness are the only thing that can match YK's brain, and vice versa. That's why she feared YG in ROCH. I always love smart characters, that's why I love YG and LHC. It's fun to watch them tricking their supposed-to-be-stronger enemies and getting away from them .

GJ is way too 'unsmart', plus he is too kind. Could you imagine how long his young version would survive in the martial world without HR by his side ? . Then again, too kind and too naive are his positive traits too. That's how he could attrack HR's attention and balanced her suspicious nature, while the amount of love and trust that he had put on YG was the things that made YG realized his own mistakes and never strayed too much from the right track. GJ is an honorable hero and role model that everyone should look up to in the wuxia world.

Tony Leung's HSDS is the best HSDS for me, because of the casts and the quick pace . Then again, I didn't root toward any girls. ZZR was evil, but I pitied her because ZWJ left her on the wedding day *lol* . ZM was nice and smart, but she was the one who kidnapped all major sect leaders before. So, I've been sticking my love toward ROCH until now (plus, it was the 1st wuxia novel that I read .. hahaha ). I love ROCH because it didn't have too many characters, so that I could focus on YG-XLN. I love XLN, since she was cool and actually intelligent. Her combination with YG was perfect : one was cunning and fiery, while the other was calm and cold. Too bad, she was too naive and unexperience, so she wouldn't survive in the martial world by herself, no mater how high her skill was.

Anyway, getting back to the current LOCH, the 5 greats here are deffinitely the most interesting things for me. The Mongolian king and YK's foster dad looked great too. It seems that the older generations here are more attractive and charismatic then the young ones .. probably because the young ones are relatively new actors.

yeah, i'm also looking forward to the 5+1 Greats in 2017 (cos I always thought of Zhou Botong as one of the Greats). In watching LOCH 2008, I realised that I don't really fancy the 2008 version. Certainly pales in comparison to the 1983 version. I'm holding my breath for the 2017 ver, cos I liked him as the Emperor's younger brother in Langya Bang.

Here's another of GJ with no bangs.
