STEP 5 (Optional): To load a subtitle from sites like Subscene.com, click on Subtitles -> Load.

Or, place the subtitle file in the same folder as the video source and rename it to match the video. This will auto-load the subtitle when you (re-)open the movie.

    Example:

    MonkeyKing.mkv (video)

    MonkeyKing.srt (subtitle)

    OR

MonkeyKing.as5 (subtitle in .as s format; substitute s for 5 as forum doesn't let me type the bad word)

STEP 6: A couple of problems you may encounter.

    1. Video plays fine. But when you try to open it again in SMPlayer, the program crashes or can't load the video.

Solution: Go to Options -> Preferences and uncheck anything that has to do with remembering video/playback settings.

    2. 3D video appears to pop into the screen instead of out.

Solution: The manufacturer must have bent the anaglyph glasses frame the wrong way. The left eye should be red while the right eye blue.

I won't be watching this movie nor reviewing it. After a quick glance at the trailer, here are a few things I've noticed about Kingsglaive (and Japanese animation movies in general):

~ China never uses Caucasians in their animations. They're either Asians with their hair dyed blonde, or a Blondie with oriental facial features. Japan is quick to kiss the Westerner's butt and feature "pure blooded" White people in their animations. This in part b/c Japan is still America's colony and her lap dog.
~ I watched (the trailer) to see how Japan does Asian characters. OMG r u kidding that Japanese CGI male model looked worse than the worst Asian CGI model in China's Legend of Ravaging Dynasties (L.O.R.D.)
~ Japan seems to suffer from delusions of grandeur. Apparently they think too highly of their technical abilities while neglecting:
    • Dress style. I literally drooled over ever piece of garment in China's L.O.R.D. b/c they all looked good/well designed. To me it seems Japanese productions don't give two shites about whether their characters' dress style looked good to other Asian viewers.
    • The story in Japanese movies is always shite, non-sensical, and poorly stitched together. There isn't an underlying unifying story thread in JP productions. Just a bunch of random events thrown together. This is why the world gets embarassingly shite works like The New Godzilla (Shin Godzilla) 2016, where it's mostly about bureaucratic politics instead of huge monsters duking it out. Unlike Chinese movies where the writers actually spent some time pondering about the plot and its twists from beginning to end.
    • Character designs in Japanese productions look retarded and most of them are actually dumb. Take that three headed monster in the Kingsglaive trailer. Usually, when you have three heads you want all the heads to be able to extend to attack all at once instead of fixed to a short neck. That three headed beast probably takes turn attacking in the FF XV movie. Also, compare the huge boss at the end of Attack on Titan Part 2 to the huge skeleton boss in The Monkey King 2. The boss in AoT just stands there swinging his arm, while the one in MK2 actually sprang thru a mountain range gallloping back and forth fighting Sun Wukong. Either the writer of AoT is retarded, or its chief character designer.
    • Weapons design. Oh, plz don't get me started on this one. Weapons in Japanese productions are ugly and often too beefy/bulky for their own good. Chinese movie weapons/props are more releastically sized, often have very good functions and names (ie. The Ressurection chain in L.O.R.D.), and look almost too dazzling to my eyes.
~ Anyways, it's now 2016 and China has surpassed Japan in every way imaginable: High speed trains and nuclear power plants at least two levels more advanced than the Japanese ones (Japan still relies on ancient tech for nuclear power), majestic grande-style artificial islands, a huge Chinese city that just sprung up overnight next to Singapore that got everyone nervous and talking, the third country in the world to have a 5th gen stealth fighter behind USA and Russia, the world's 1st and 2nd fastest supercomputers, a soon working space station (China will have the world's only functional space station in 2024), and in quality CGI animations with a compelling storyline.

My review of Monster Hunt (2015):

    Likes:

    ~ Cool kung fu moves.
    ~ Good ending song.
    ~ Nice sceneries.

    Dislikes:

~ This is one of those movies that prove the saying "whatever is popular is wrong" true as discussed below. At a box office gross of $382 million USD the production certainly isn't unpopular.
~ Movie is supposed to be family oriented for family bonding, but ends up traumatizing little kids. There is too much gore. And at the end the parents (well actually the dad) just tell the kid radish to p1ss off. Imaging the poor unsuspecting human child watching this movie with his parents.
~ Very poor plot twist. A monster destroyer that hangs around/ has monsters serving him from the beginning (the main villain). I could smell from a mile away he wasn't human from the start.
~ It looked awful in 3D. I had the 2D version for months. Never got around to watching it b/c trailer didn't look all that appealing until I found out there was a 3D version. The White Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom (reviewed earlier) had more spectacular 3D effects.
~ Weak story. This movie belongs in the same class as Titanic where its main appeal/target audience are women b/c Titanic only became a spectacular hit b/c feminists (not men) spread it by word of mouth. As such, this whole movie overuses the feminist cliche, which is in a world filled with pen1s envy, the desired end of the female is to play the role of the male. Just think about it it was the guy who gave birth, cooked, sewed and needed the female monster hunter to protect him. Women might find the story fascinating and entertained by the refreshing change, but as a guy I was not amused by this b/c clearly the movie wasn't written for guy viewers.
~ I really hate action directors who make it too obvious on camera a stunt double is performing those cool moves.
~ I really hate action directors who use (skinny) guy stunt doubles for female characters.

    Verdict: Above average (7.0 / 10)

Sun Wukong, (The Monkey King) is a monkey born from a heavenly stone who acquires supernatural powers. After rebelling against heaven and being imprisoned under a mountain for 500 years, he later accompanies the monk Xuanzang on a journey to India. Thus, according to legend, Buddhism is brought to ancient China. This much beloved story, is as much a part of Asian culture as The Iliad and The Odyssey or The Wizard of Oz are to the West. This first installment in a trilogy of live action 3-D movies is actually a prequel to The Journey To The West, the much told story of the Monkey King's adventures on the road to India. The Monkey King: Havoc In The Heavenly Palace will be released in the U.S. as The Monkey King. The first movie is the origins story - beginning with the birth of Sun Wukong and ending with his imprisonment for his crimes under the Five-Peaked Mountain. Along the way he acquires incredible powers...
