Hi Linda
Yes, I've read a couple of negative reviews on this drama and 'heard' of the bad publicity particularly about AB's acting, not following the novel and the excessive use of green screen. I have to say I disagree with all of it except the last one.
I have only seen AB once in Rise of The Legend with Eddie Peng. As it was a movie and she was not in the starring role, she didn't have a lot of screen time. I thought she was alright. So i didn't think one way or another about her acting before I started watching this drama. AB was absolutely stunning in this drama, perhaps that's why some viewers were more focused on her looks than anything else. I think she did just fine.
She brought out the gentleness and coquettishness of BPT's character.
I have started reading the translated novel (thank you, moonbunnycafe.com) and am up to the planning of the final battle with He Xia. Yes, the drama deviated from the novel here and there. I think it is quite impossible or very difficult to accurately follow the novel (it would have to be more than 62 episodes then!). I personally prefer the drama. Yes, they could have tweaked it a little by cutting back on the war/battle scenes, 1 or 2 episodes, and use that time for the ending giving the viewers some sort of closure with the other characters.
The usage of green screens was VERY distracting, the only flaw and a big one at that, in this drama.
I agree with you Linda on Wallace's ease with AB. AB spent part of her growing up years in HKG and they have worked together on a reality show before, plus the director of this drama is also from HKG. Perhaps this familiarity between them might have 'gelled' them and helped to produce the great chemistry between Wallace and AB.
One last thing (sorry, I'm so long-winded)
. The chemistry between Tiffany Tang and Wallace was quite 'off' in My Sunshine. She seemed odd in that drama. In fact, she appeared to cringe in the intimate scenes. I caught one of the behind the scenes of My Sunshine ep20 (I think), where Yichen thought Mosheng was gong to leave him again (the struggling on the couch scene). After filming, Tiffany jumped up shouting "You scared me to death!/
吓死我了!"
I was thinking if that's why she appeared awkward in the show because her discomfort was evident throughout the drama! I enjoyed the drama and Wallace's great acting (of course), but wished it could have been somebody else playing Mosheng
