A sharp intake of breath.
William turned towards the direction immediately... to his surprise, it was Derek.
"Brother... what have you done...?" Derek's face was pale with terror, his eyes fixed upon the corpse of the bald man.
"This is the bastard who murdered Janny. I avenged her." William replied coldly.
"... by killing him too...?" Derek gasped. "Have you forgotten about our Oath? That we shouldn't take someone's life anymore?"
"Nobody has to know... I'll kill you too..." William said, drawing his sword.
"... you've gone mad." Derek replied, taking out two daggers from his pockets.
All of a sudden, a fierce gust of wind lifted the port, and the air around the two brothers was suddenly filled with skirling leaves and dust.
A sword lashed in. Derek punched his left knife at the blade, to intercept a third of the way down from the tip. Yet, in the storm of the spinning leaves William's sword seemed to be everywhere at once, blurring in a wall of light and sudden flashes as the edge of the sword caught the light of the moon.
But Derek fought with both his body and mind to resist the power and brutality of this assault.
"Stop this... Will..." He growled. "We shouldn't be... doing this at all... "
"It's too late." He pressed on.
Lightning flashed. Thunder roared. The two brothers danced a fantastic duet of deadly yet beautiful movements. Twin daggers against sword. It seemingly lasted for an eternity...
And then... it ended. Abruptly.
The cold, bleak heavens started to weep over the bloody battlefield.
"I'm sorry..."
There was a look of pain on Will's face, before he staggered and fell slowly into the sea. He vanished beneath the deep water.
Moments later, a dozen yards away, a thin lean arm thrust skyward.
Swarms of gold butterlies mobbed that straining, yearning reach, even as it slowly sank back down, then disappeared. The insects were converging, thousands, then hundreds of thousands...
