He was more realistic than afraid. Realistically he did not stand a chance against the combined power of the 5 schools (not counting Wudang). Also his daughter did kill all those people in the Dragon Gate escort agency so he really didn't have much moral high ground.
Moreover, like many of those who hounded Yan So So to death, Yan Teen Jing also coveted the Dragon Sabre.
Finally, precisely who would be the target of his revenge? The entire wulin? Cheung Mo Gei also struggled with this question during his youth until, as a young adult, he accepted that his parents' death was not the fault of any one individual or group of individuals. There was enough blame to go around.
Yin Tianzheng was more concerned about the dragon saber than anything else I think. After Yin Susu's passing he did not even make any attempts to visit or heal Zhang Wuji. So taking revenge was not his priority, since like what Mandred and Ken said, there was no sufficient grounds for him to take revenge.
That was... horrible. So the Wudang Five never really accepted Yin Susu as their "fifth sister" then. I can't believe they were so petty and narrow minded. Yin Susu made a mistake and paid for it with her life. Zhang Cuishan committed suicide partly to protect Xie Xun and partly out of shame for what she did. Surely all grievances would have been settled in light of the mutual grief both parties were going through? And Real Man Zhang didn't say anything? That's quite a disappointment, really.
Not at all. At least, not before Ah San revealed the truth years later.
I don't think it quite cancels out. If only she died, maybe. That would cancel out Yu Daiyan's trouble (in their mind; I don't agree). But having Cuishan die too tips the grief to Wudang side.I can't believe they were so petty and narrow minded. Yin Susu made a mistake and paid for it with her life. Also, there was a big deal about orthodox sects not mingling with "evil" sects at the time. Certainly if Susu were from an orthodox sect, they would have treated the visitors more kindly.
But yes, here we have another area in which JY sort of did the famous "Z3F can do anything as his heart pleases... but not really" thing. It was stated earlier that Zhang Real Man didn't care about traditional orthodox vs evil sect thing, and he even gave a touching speech about how people shouldn't pay attention to that and they should care more about the person's integrity. Well, not only did he not intervene here, later when he met Chang Yuchun, he clearly held prejudice against Ming Sect based on the Yin Susu incident.
I can't fault a normal person for thinking this way, but this is ZHANG "enlightened sage of wisdom" SANFENG.
I kind of like the realism in this. Zhang Sanfeng has no problems accepting any individual even if they're unorthodox, but he is not above having preconceived notions.
I mean meeting someone in the Hamptons and meeting someone in the rough parts of Chicago are clearly going to yield different people, no reason to pretend that's not the case as long as you take the time to see what their individual character is like.
The Ming sect at the time had a terrible reputation while the orthodox sects were supposed to be good, I don't think it's being unenlightened to have different initial opinions as long as you are willing to change it once you get to know the person.
Sure, but it's disappointing that someone of Zhang's stature, at his age, has not figured out what the Ming Sect is really about.I don't think it's being unenlightened to have different initial opinions as long as you are willing to change it once you get to know the person.

I think there's a line where he thought to himself that in the past the Ming sect did have a lot of heroic figures, but in recent years a lot of the newer members looted, raped, etc which the other Ming members later did confirm was happening.
CYC was a young guy in his 20s, so its reasonable he would be part of the generation of the villainous Ming sect rather than the righteous ones of the past. He quickly changed his judgment after speaking with him which seems pretty fair.
