in the novel, the female lead, fuyao is described as "shameless, loves money and pretty men." unfortunately, the novel's female lead is a time traveler and has an impressive male harem, which is banned on tv or rejected by sarft. so the story has to be heavily modified while maintaining the essence of the leads and spirit of the story; unfortunately, the modification altered fuyao's personality to make her more of a likable mainstream lead. i wanted a true bada$$.. unlike ten miles of peach blossom where the series is better than the novel and they kept the majority of the events, from what i heard, legend of fuyao the novel is more interesting than the series. keep in mind, the novel is 7 volumes long and they have to cram that into a 66 episode series while changing the plot to satisfy sarft. tmopb was a much shorter novel which they adapted very well.

i haven't read the novel, legend of fuyao, as it hasn't been translated fully into english. BUT i am loving the series.

i've always been a yang mi fan and i adore ethan from fated to love you. so i knew i wanted to watch this series, but i was hoping to catch it after it has aired. my curiosity got the better of me and now i'm hooked. this role was made for ethan as the series is unfortunately revolving around his character more. and he is nailing his role. however, i think the scriptwriters remained more true to wuji's character as he retains his intelligence, ruthlessness, passion, and wit. fuyao unfortunately for the first third of the series is mostly a damsel in distress with smartness but she's also more impulsive.

there is undeniable chemistry between the leads and the banter is mature. dialogue can be quick witted and i've had to rewatch a few scenes a few times because i enjoy them so much while waiting for more episodes to air.

despite being a xanxia, they don't over do the magic component although it is there.
cinematography, costumes, and acting are great. most characters have been well cast. plot has holes but forgivable as the series is damn addicting and fun and overall the pace is good. at least there is a real storyline and knowing yang mi, this series will have closure for the ending.

a poster by the name of ninan on mydramalist (https://mydramalist.com/23171-legend-of-fu-yao) has this to say about the series:

"This drama has a costume design team from Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, a set design team from Nirvana in Fire and a choreographer team from Princess Agent. And familiar faces from the TMOPB and NIF. The male lead has a total opposite personality from Yuehua but of no less charm. The chemistry between the ML and FL is unbelievable. Yes, it is epic. :-)

So far the story is good and addictive for my taste. Especially it has way more comedy moments than the above three. Just hope it go on like this and has a happy ending like TMOPB."
