1. Yes, this ZWJ did apologize, but I think (although I'm blanking on exact versions) that most of the adaptations' ZWJ's did at least have him go and explain to ZZR that what ZM showed him was his God-father's hair and so he did it to save him. In fact I think at least 2 other versions had him go with the Ming Sect members to Ermei shan just to explain that to him and ask for ZZR to return to him, but in both cases ZZR spurns him when he does.

2. Qing shu dies in this one. He is crippled and ZWJ saves him (to ZZR's constellation, as ZM points out) but QS is actually killed by one of his own shi-shu's because he is better of dead. His father actually tries to kill him himself (to return honor to Wudang) but can't bring himself to, so one of his Wudang brothers (I think the 2nd one, Yu Lian Zhou?) does it in his stead. It's one of the many moving scenes of the series. I love the actor who acts as Song Yuan Qiao in the 1986 version (QS's father), and the way he, as the most dignified of the shishu's the entire show, ends up on his knees in front of Wuji, apologizing and crying in shame and grief after QS dies was super powerful. Whew!

Caveat: I watched 1986's version and wrote that review about the series before I read the book, so I had a very positive impression of ZWJ then. Honestly reading the books was a let down. Not only was ZWJ a less than fine character, even ZM seemed senselessly capricious, and the mysogonist overtones to JY saying that he liked XZ most because ZM and ZZR were too ambitious? This is one story which I recommend people to watch the screen versions but not read the books (although I also only read either the 2nd or 3rd version, so can't comment on the other versions of the book which he rewrote several times.)

Love the picts, thanks for sharing Shakespeare- quality is looking good- and I see lots of familiar faces amongst the 2ndary characaters so hoping that those would be well-acted!

@wkeej, oh, no not at all! In my view, ZZR had every right to spurn ZWJ after what he put her through, and indeed for any reason whatsoever since it's her marriage (including, in all the versions I've seen, the reason that ZWJ doesn't love her and only her, which makes good sense to me!)

Oh yes and I've said it before but the older generation women look amazing- Jinghua popo in particular I think gives the lead actresses a run for their money! ZZR, YSS and ZM (along with QS and ZWJ) too are looking great in the stills.

The Ming sect bunch also look fun and I'm keeping my fingers cross for ZSF and the Wudang 6.... plus the screenwriter... HSDS is a true ensemble work and hopefully this version manages to do that!

I hope this version does Yang Xiao, one of my favorite characters of the book, justice. 1986's version of Yang Xiao was the best, very refined and charismatic. In fact, up to this point, 1986's secondary characters are so well cast and everyone looked like they came directly out from the book, from the iconic Zhang San Feng to Yang Xiao, Fan Yao, Xie Xun, Wei Yi Xiao, Mie Yue and the 7 Wu Dang heroes. I can't ever recall another series with such an ensemble. Though most of the actors in that series only play supporting roles for TVB, whenever you talk about them, you immediately refer to their performance in HSDS 1986.

Another thing I look for, though won't have much high hopes, is that they make the Xuan Ming Er Lao more serious, menacing and less caricaturistic. In all versions, even the 1986 one, they frankly just look like idiots.
