According to actor Li Peiming who made an imposing 9th King of Qing Yang (as seen here
https://mydramalist.com/photos/RPPVx ) if everything go as planned, we will be able to watch this drama by March 2019

BTW, his character Lv Baoyin is probably the person most responsible for instituting the tribes' tradition of killing all males on the losing side who are taller than horse's back as seen in TaE: Storm of Prophecy. In the Eagle Flag novel it is worse, since the reference is actually the horse' belly.

Everything that's come out about this drama thus far has been super promising - even more so than Tribes and Empires, because the supporting cast for Eagle Flag is amazing and I like the three young leads a lot. Zhang Zhi Jian and Xu Qing in particular (who are the two well known veteran actors not in the 'special appearance' category) are notoriously picky about their projects so I'm hoping that they saw something promising in the script and production that swayed them to join.

One thing to note - this show is going to have the opposite problem of Tribes and Empires, which was one book stretched into 70+ episodes and has multiple story threads (which is why it draggggged). Novoland: Eagle Flag has six books and is currently slotted at 56 episodes. It sounds like they're intending to cover at least parts of all six books by focusing on one main story thread, so that script is going to have to be really, really tight.

I do think that they will have better luck getting a satellite channel distributor than Tribes and Empires did - rumor is Hunan TV has already tentatively agreed, but things change fast in Chinese dramaland (as Tribes and Empires learned) so who knows. The cast is overall more famous though (especially since Liu Hao Ran's popularity exploded over the last two months - the marketing's been focused on him), and if there's one good thing about Linmon it's that their productions basically all end up getting TV slots.

I'm trying hard to temper expectations because 1) it's so far away and 2) the previous Novoland adaptations have been disappointing but ahhhh this looks so promising.

Above is the prerelease version of title sequence at the start of every episode, without any cast credits. It is unclear at this stage whether the music will be changed in the final version (seems likely).

Quick analysis:

1. Although the clip is 1:37 min (the same length as a TaE: Storm of Prophecy episode opening sequence), the audio part finished at 90 seconds with a transition change (see 3) - so the actual sequence should be 90 secs.
2. While puzzling to most viewers, the title sequence obviously is a easter egg to fans of the source novel - a reference to a chess play between two character in the book and also blood, ice and iron.
3. The end sequence is signaled by the appearance of the most famous motto in Novoland
"Tiejia Yiran Zai" (The Ironclads still stands!) This is the first official use of the trademarked motto in a video by the drama.
4. The materials used for the pieces resembled Bloodstone and Qingtian Stone, two types of gem stones found in China.

The introductory by the drama creators on this title sequence is:
王道始于局戏，铁骑为子，天下为盘，非志者不可决
Which I translated into English as:

The way of the kings commences like opening play;
With iron cavalries as pieces; and the world as its chessboard;
Those of weak resolve are unworthy of this great game.

Lareina Song backs out from The King's Avatar to focus on Novoland

There has been an unfortunate casting change on The King's Avatar 全职高手, which had initially secured Yang Yang and Lareina Song Zuer as the leads. The show has issued a statement to explain that while Lareina Song was participating in the creative process for The King's Avatar, her other drama Novoland: Eagle Flag was already in the process of filming. As she wanted to do justice to the roles, she has willingly backed out from The King's Avatar to focus on Novoland.

Furthermore, it looks as though the decision was made amicably. it is revealed that the filming crew for both shows are all from Linmon Pictures and that everyone came to an agreement after communicating with each other. It's too bad as this would have been a cute pairing to root for, but now that Yang Yang needs another leading lady, may we suggest Zheng Shuang? Considering the plot and Yang Yang playing a gamer again, it would be too perfect!

FilMart: Linmon Unveils ‘Novoland’ Live-Action Adaptation (EXCLUSIVE)

Linmon Pictures has released the title sequence for “Novoland: Eagle Flag,” the first moving images to emerge from the hotly anticipated Chinese series. The release coincides with Hong Kong FilMart where the company is meeting international buyers.

Set for release in June 2019, “Novoland: Eagle Flag” is a visual effects-heavy live action drama. Though the budget is undisclosed, Linmon Pictures says it is one of the most expensive Chinese series of all time.

The Eastern fantasy series follows the rise of three young would-be heroes and their struggle against an evil warlord and swelling dark forces. Directed by Zhang Xiaobo (“To Be A Better Man”) it stars rising talent Liu Haoran, Chen Ruoxuan and Song Zu’er and an experienced supporting cast including Zhang Jiayi, Xu Qin and Zhang Fengyi.

Written by Jiang Nan, the first six “Novoland: Eagle Flag” books received widespread acclaim after being published on- and offline in the mid-2000s.

The first season (70 x 40-minute episodes) will debut on both Youku and Tencent Video. Domestic television rights remain unsold.

Following a two-year development phase, the series began filming at the start of November 2017 and is scheduled to conclude in September this year. Postproduction will be handled by Linmon’s postproduction subsidiary studio, Linmon Digital.

Headquartered in Shanghai with offices in Beijing, Linmon Pictures was established in 2014 by former Shanghai Media Group Pictures head Su Xiao, and co-founders Chen Fei, Xu Xiao’ou and Zhou Yuan. The company received $15 million (RMB100 million) investment from Tencent in 2015 and a further $76 million (RMB500 million) in 2016 from Chinese private equity firm Hony Capital and Mango V Foundation, a philanthropic offshoot of Hunan TV. The recently completed third investment round has made the company a unicorn.

Linmon Pictures has produced four TV dramas to date, including “Love For Separation,” “Chronicle of Life,” “To Be A Better Man,” and “Fighter of The Destiny.” Several more are currently in production including “Legend of Fu Yao” and “Only Side by Side With You.”

The “Novoland: Eagle Flag” titles were created over 10-months by Linmon Digital. “We wanted a title sequence reminiscent of those created by Patrick Clair for ‘Westworld’ and ‘True Detective,’ but with distinctive Chinese elements” said CEO Han Lei.
