BOOK & SWORD: GRATITUDE & REVENGE was one of Jin Yong's first wuxia novels, while DUKE OF MT. DEER was one of his last. Thus, while B&S: G&R was set two generations after the time of DOMD in terms of continuity, it was originally impossible to include any allusions to characters and events from the DOMD timeframe (other than perhaps references to Emperor K'ang Hsi and his court) in B&S: G&R. Would it have been fun or interesting, however, if in the third edition of B&S: G&R, Jin Yong included allusions to Wai Siu Bo and other characters and events from DOMD? That way, DOMD could have been part of an overall "Qing Dynasty Saga" that also included B&S: G&R and the FLYING FOX OF SNOWY MOUNTAIN novels (which are already narratively) connected. It would sort of be like the later editions of LOCH including references back to DGSD.
