It looks like your wish has been granted! They are now uploading this series, one or two episodes a day. The first episode can be found here.

I wonder if someone at TVB is reading these forums? It is not the obvious first choice for a Gulong series (all the series on that channel have been Jinyong adaptations so far) - the 70's series (e.g. the Lu Xiaofeng series starring Damian Lau) would have been the more obvious candidate.

Perhaps it's because enough public interest for Alex Man 萬梓良 have generated due to their recent re-screening of The Feud of Two Brothers《流氓大亨》 e.g. https://www.jaynestars.com/news/lawr...-two-brothers/

The Return of Luk Siu Fung was pretty fun to watch, but when I watch it I can't help but see him as a way inferior version of Michael Miu's Chor Lau Heung. Doesn't help that Simon Yam is also in that series and is one of the most charismatic actors of all time!

Boo, of all the episodes in ROCH '83, the fight at Chongyang Temple when YG unleashes the iron sword is in mandarin

Edit: And the episode of Hong Qigong fighting Ouyang Feng. It seems like they know which ones I want to watch and conspired against me!

I saw the Cantonese version https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...iJAwcoYhWHimpH . Can you give me a link?

Weird, maybe there's multiple videos that they've uploaded and I didn't notice, but here it is from same user:

I've watched a few LOCH '94 episodes (generally the earlier ones), but there are definitely uncut scenes that did not exist from the rented TVB tapes that my parents brought for me.

It's really only a few seconds of tape, but with how media was back in the old 90's and how often I rewatched things, I definitely remember!

And perhaps unnecessary commentary, but the actress that portrayed Bai Xiruo was very unattractive to me as a kid, but now I don't understand how I don't find her beautiful It kind of changes the earlier story a bit.

I think THE RETURN OF LUK SIU FUNG got prioritized because it hasn't previously been issued in any other media since the beginning of the digital era. The other series have previously gotten VCD or DVD releases, but not THE RETURN OF LUK SIU FUNG.

I do wonder how they choose which series to upload as well!

Proud Smiling Wanderer [SOD '96] is (rightfully) considered one of the best 90s series, but it's not there.

LOCH '94 is the most accurate adaption and I'm glad was shared, but in terms of entertainment it really does fall far behind a ton of other series.

Hopefully the channel keeps updating and we get full series of all the shows!

I think for ROCH they have a Cantonese and Mandarin version available. The thumbnail tells you whether it's Mandarin or Cantonese.

They have uploaded both Mandarin and Cantonese versions of ROCH '83 (and only for this series - maybe it was an experiment?).

The Mandarin version has '(國語中字)' in the title - the playlist is here.

The Cantonese version has '(粵語中字)' in the title, and the playlist is here.

This service is expressly for overseas viewers (Hong Kong is blocked from it, I believe), so a rerun running on HK television would not seem likely to cause much interest among their target audience. I suppose it might have caused interest among the powers-that-be who decide what to upload next though.

I do hope they upload The Return of Chor Lau Heung.

That series to me is the archetypical wuxia story filled with the best actors they had; other series may have been better in a technical sense but either lacked the actor presence or dragged out a bit too much.

No scene in that series could possibly match something like when Huang Yaoshi and Ho Qiqong first dueled in LOCH, but overall I believe it was quite a bit better.

Hah you're right. You tricked me with your earlier Luk Siu Fung recommendation!

Btw, was Luk Siu Fung supposed to be that much grumpier and unlikable compared to Chor? I thought they were supposed to be more or less the same character, but it's miles of difference between the two series.

Luk Siu Fung isn't supposed to be grumpy at all. He's an easygoing, sociable guy with an easy laugh and a great sense of humor, though you don't want to get on his bad side.

Additionally, the titles THE RETURN OF LUK SIU FUNG and THE NEW ADVENTURES OF CHOR LAU HEUNG are little bit misleading because they suggest that the new series are a continuation of the previous, 1970s series (starring Damian Lau and Adam Cheng, respectively). Though the same characters are featured, neither of the two 1980s series is truly a sequel to the 1970s versions because in both cases, the continuities were completely rebooted. Events that were portrayed in the 1970s series did not necessarily occur in the 1980s series, or even if they did, they were portrayed quite differently.

It was a shame we never got to see more of Newton Lai as Ye Gucheng - I personally think Adam's portrayal was perfect and the best I've seen, but Newton was at the point in his career where he just oozed charisma, and would have done a decent job at it. Return of Luk Siu Fung skipped directly from the Embroidery Bandit to the Silver Hook Casino, didn't it? Newton, iirc, only appeared in either a flashback or a short clip at the start.

Yeah...Newton had pretty much a cameo appearance as Yip Goo Sing that lasted all of one minute and a single line of dialogue. I think he could have played the role very well for an entire series.

I just watched Episode 1 - you were right, Ken. Hui Yat Wah's Ouyang Qing is really drop-dead gorgeous! A shame she never did get better roles. She certainly has the looks and acting talent to carry many larger supporting roles, but always gets cast as bad girls - her role here is refreshingly cool.
